Its a controversial decision, but a north berkley Business Association has decided to drop the name Gourmet Ghetto. It was adopted in 2014 but commonly used by residents and visitors for many years before that. But now the local associa evolv announced its time to get rid of it. The banners are still flying high along shaddock avenue, but the name, Gourmet Ghettos been officially dropped by the north shaddock association. If there is a name even in common parlance and in the culture that is offensive to some members of our community, perhaps to many messages of our community, then we should try to change the culture around that name. Reporter in a statement, the north shaddock association said we want all members of the Larger Community to feel invited. And with respect to those who feel a strong kwex to tconnecti spirit of the Gourmet Ghetto name we support dropping the moniker. It comes after some Business Owners and residents objected to it, saying the ghetto is especially hurtful. Its great that were actually reviewing this and taking it a step forward. Reporter frustration for many at almaden hills church in san jose after a breakin sometime sunday into monday. They came over the rafters, had a bolt cutter in order to get the garage door open and the trailer hitch, the lock off the trailer hitch, and they took the trailer. Reporter a trailer belonging to boy scout troupe 262, filled with more than 12,000 worth of camping equipment, everything from multiple tents to cooking supplies all gone in a matter of minutes. It could be that the people who stole it and ended up with the trailer were not the same folks. Reporter thats because police found the trailer at a homeless encampment, however, hoev sto whoever stole it had to have the means to remove the trailer. They were stealing to sell. Reporter this is now the second time the church and troupe have been targeted over the last six months. The first time we got broken into, the troupe came together and collected bottles and cans, and thats the way reraiswe rai money. Were a small church. I really want people to stop breaking in here. The fact that this happened, this is a symptom of a bigger problem that needs to be addressed in the city of san jose. It sat vacant for well over ten years, became an eyesore and blight on the community of hayward. Reporter crews demolished the property in 2017. Became a homeless encampment. The city of hayward, the police were responding to calls by the neighborhoods around here. Two and three calls a week. Reporter developer dolinger bought it with a vision in mind. Were building 474 apartments, but 82,000 square feet of retail. Reporter scott says the future of hayward will be called lincoln landing. The project is expected to open in two and a half years, the first major downtown project to be opened since a new downtownspecific plan to create more space for housing and Retail Entertainment and other nonresidential uses.
