As board president , breed stepped into the position of acting mayor while at the same time running for office. But a month later, january 2018, she was removed from her job by her colleagues on the board because they saw that as a political advantage. Supervisor mark farrell was then voted in as acting mayor. Almena is described as the Master Tenant of the Oakland Building where 36 people died in a fire in december of 2016. A judge set a trial date of march 30th, 2020 and also denied the defenses request to reduce almenas bail of 750,000. The judge moved to hold two of the jurors from the previous trial in contempt. There could be new trouble for their mows founder elizabeth holmes. Her attorneys are asking a judge to let them quit. They say they havent been paid and dont want to work for free.
