This morning it is burning more than 54,000 acres in Sonoma County. Containment dropped to 5 after being at 10 over the weekend. At last check 94 structures were destroyed. Were not sure how many of those are houses. 80,000 structures are in danger. Two firefighters were hurt yesterday. Two of them had burn injuries. One of them serious. About 185,000 people are being forced to leave their homes. This is the largest Evacuation Order in Sonoma County history. Cornell barnard is joining us live from the Equestrian Center in Sonoma County. Good morning. An intense situation here. Firefighters from culver city and Beverly Hills put out a fire at this horse stable. This is the fieldstone farm Equestrian Center and stable. Some things, as you can see, still smoldering inside this barn where hay and feed are stored. Pallets and a debris pile to the left also caught fire. The captain said it is possible flying embers from the kincade fire could have started this in the last hour. Now, overnight residents who were living nearby were told it was time to leave. This was the scene not too long ago, firefighters were going door to door along with sheriffs deputies telling residents who have not left already that it was indeed time to go. 80,000 homes are still threatened in the area of larkfieldwikiup. We were up on shiloh ridge road in the last hour. It appears, according to a sheriffs spokesperson that i talked to, that the fire was stopped up on shiloh ridge road, possibly saving hundreds of homes from possible ruin. That is the good news. Were waiting for the sun to come up to find out where we are in this firefight. Check it out. Were here at fieldstone farm, not far from the barn that burned. This is a historic barn. I talked to the owner moments ago. He said this barn was built in the early 1900s. Hes extremely relieved that it was saved considering its only a few feet from the Storage Facility barn that burned. All the horses in this area from this facility were moved out in the last 24 hours and taken to some shelters in santa rosa that are accommodating large animals. Thats the good news. As more Evacuation Orders are put in place, more people are coming here shg, as you can see they are to longer accepting animals here. The shelter that is pet friendly is full. Its at capacity. They still have room for people without animals. They have room for about 50 more people, they say they opened many new shelters in the last 24 hours to accommodate the needs. A rode cross worker i spoke to says he thinks they went from 6 shelters to 13 in the last 24 hours. We asked how the evacuees are holding up. Most of them are very understanding of it. Probably unfortunately because they have been through it before. Its not the first time. Its kind of a scary thought, but theyve been through it before. Theyre experienced. Theyre in shock. They dont hear much good news yet. At least the wind has died down. We hear it will pick up again in two ys. Were making the best of it. And they are fully staffed. Theyre not worried about food and water here. He says they have plenty. They pulled in red cross volunteers from far away to handle the need. He just came in. He had a volunteer who just came in from san jose to be here. He says, again, theyre doing the their best to accommodate the 670 clients they have just here at the fair grounds. Flames and smoke continue to make driving down some roads around the fire dangerous, especially at night. Check out this video. This is new. It was a driving shot on highway 128 last night. It was taken from the dash cam of the Sonoma County sheriff deputys vehicle. You can see how strong those flames are as fires burn on both sides of the road. During their latest press conference, cal fire had some harsh words and warnings to anyone who was living in and around the fire zone, make sure youre ready to evacuate because theres no telling what could happen with the changing winds over the next few days. We are in the heart of the battle right now with this fire in Sonoma County. We ask that everybody who is outside of an evacuation zone have a plan. This fire could change direction and activity at any moment. That could result in additional evacuations. Cal fire says the threat is real and Everyone Needs to heed the warnings. A fire that is not believed to be related to the kincade fire has destroyed two homes in schelville in Sonoma County. The fire started on napa road near 5th street. Trees and grass around the homes also burned, but that helped to stop the flames from spreading. Its not clear how this fire started. San Francisco Mayor london breed is declaring a local emergency to assist county residents driven from their homes. Her tweetaid this evening i issued a proclamation issuing a local emergency as a result of the kincade fire. San francisco will be opening a temporary 200 person shelter at saint marys cathedral. We will assist evacuees from Sonoma County and were looking at additional possible locations. That shelter at the cathedral will open at 8 00 this morning. Sonoma county has a lot of Evacuation Centers at capacity but napa valley expo, Crosswalk Community church napa and Petaluma Valley Baptist Church are still accepting evacuees. The utility may have to cut off power to 35 california counties for that event. Pg e says it will try to turn on electricity to the 850,000 customers impacted by this current shutoff. The allclear has come for some parts of the state but nowhere in the bay area. But the utility warns power may continue to be out through the duration of the next event. With the wind shift out of the west it moves towards the east bay, the san pablo bay, the delta and the sacramento valley. Check this out. Strong gusting winds in the Oakland Hills brought down a tent and toppled portajohns at the pg e resource center. The strong winds were rocking the trailer a bit. Several people were inside trying to charge up their devices. They had flashlights, snacks and water available for people there. Governor newsom declared a statewide emergency to make every resource available to help fight the wildfires and assist people in affected areas. The governor made the announcement in front of people evacuated from their homes. He spoke with abc7 after meeting Sonoma County residents who were all too familiar of being driven from their homes by wildfires. The shelter had a lot of experience. In 2017 we met half the folks in this shelter were evacuated in 2017. Met a young woman who lost her hme two years ago in coffey park, just rebuilt it and is evacuated again. The governor praised cal fire for having crews ready to go in highrisk fire zones before the kincade fire started. People are not the only ones being forced to evacuate because of the kincade fire. In napa county volunteers raced to evacuate ten horses and a mule in calistoga. This can be called a second rescue since the animals were once bound for the slaughterhouse. Its sad. Its hard with all these animals. We just assume stay here. This is our home. Its hard. These pg e lines have to stop. We have to get them under ground so we dont have this.
