The show has come quite a long way since its humble premiere on this day in 1992. And this morning we are opening up the abc news vault to our 25th anniversary when our shows creator, david borman, shared the story of us. And hello from new york, im lisa mccree. Im aaron brown, and this is the premiere broadcast of abcs world news now. It was unimaginable that this program would last two years. I mean, we all should have been fired immediately. At some point in probably 1991, Roone Arledge made a pledge to the affiliates that abc news was going to do an overnight news program. And the only thing that roone said is it would be in halfhour increments. All that coming up this half hour. We begin as we always do with the news. And there would be news, weather and sports every half hour. That was the extent of the detail. You would describe it sometimes as, roone lent us the family ferrari and the only instruction was, dont crash it. You could scratch it a little bit, but dont crash the car. From new york im aaron brown. Im lisa mccree. Aaron and lisa had the most amazing chemistry. They didnt really want each other to fail, but they wanted to see how far they could get. There will be why dont you talk for a moment while im dying here. And together they were magic. They were just spectacular. Thats the news for this half hour. Yeah. More serious, please. Thats the news for this half hour. Great graphics department. One of the keys to world news now is the graphics department. And so i come up with a crazy idea. I want a cardboard cutout of lisa. And wendy would go make it. Hello from new york, happy new year, im aaron brown. Lisas off toasting the town. And it turned out that when they were off, the best fillin was the cardboard cutout. Because youd do a deadpan, give a look, thank you, lisa. Or hey, aaron. But it was part of the attitude of the program. Hello from new york, im lisa mccree, aaron brown is off this morning. It was really every day. There were hundreds of moments that had either been set up this, by the way, is a pancake. Here, this is yours. Thank you. By some crazy idea, or were just spontaneous. They were all special. Someday all companies will insert their logo right there on the screen, but we like to see were trendsetters. Looks good, i especially like the hand, the hair. Youre doing great. Over the years the handoff of anchors has happened really well. Hi, everybody. This isnt a cutout, i got the job. But there is sort of a brotherhood of a connection between people who have anchored the program. The anchor chemistry has always been interesting and important. I think a lot of times when you watch the news it seems theres sort of this manufactured relationship between the guy and the lady sitting up there giving the news. Nothing could be further from the truth. The program has changed over the years. Both in format from abc news, this is world news now. And in personalities. But the anchor succession series has been another part of the reason that its lasted. And people who have done the program go on to really interesting things. To this day there is still some of the dna in the program. Its different for a lot of reasons. Televisions different. But the dnas still there. From then till now, a big thanks to mr. Borman there for what he started, for what he created. And to our predecessors as well. They helped build quite a legacy. Weve come quite a long way. You know, from the newsroom to the news desk, serious journalism happening here. Serious and fun journalism at that. Were going to keep it going. Hey, guys. Hey, guys.
