From our perspective, the Biggest Issue is really bad behavior. We see lots of Illegal Dumping at cans. We see lots of piller iffing through cans. Reporter matt haney is leading the meeting and disagrees with public works approach. I dont think that cans themselves are causing the Illegal Dumping. I dont think that it stops it when you take them away. Reporter if it were up to dpw, there is more trash conditions at bus stops and schools but not at every corner in needed areas. Theyre not intended to be this a catch all for everyones they want trash cans in every corner in high needed areas. A new secure trash can design. Clearer standards for where they can be placed and removed and accelerated time line to recall the automatic lock on private bins. This is common sense. This should not be a fight. This should be obvious. And it creates a lot of cynicism when the city cant get something as basic right as a trash can that is available and working. One solution brought forward is the automatic private bins. Now customers have a key to these bins and they can automatically unlock when theyre hooked up to a truck.
