France reporting the first death of a patient in europe. Officials say its an 80yearold man visiting france from the wuhan area. And now four people outside Mainland China have been killed b the virus. More than 1,500 people total. Just yesterday china recorded more than 1,000 new confirmed cases, bringing the global total to more than 66,000. In the u. S. There are 15 confirmed cases, eight of those are here in california. It comes after new developments aboard the quarantined diamond princess cruise ship. U. S. Officials say the american passengers will be evacuated and fly home from japan tomorrow night. The cruise ship was put under a twoweek quarantine on february 5th after a reported outbreak. The u. S. Embassy in japan says the 380 americans will fly to travis air base in fairfield before heading to lackland in san antonio. Now last night we spoke on the phone to a novato resident aboard the ship who is very eager to head home. I find that there are literally no negatives. And its one hell of a story well have when we get back. We have actually heard a couple of myths that there might be an extension of a day or two. Were hopeful that that doesnt occur. Now we hope they get home safe. There have been 218 confirmed coronavirus cases onboard the ship since the quarantine began peter saber said he and his wife are in good health and not tested positive. North of mount too many cold around there. Its drying out in the atmosphere next several days allowing for chillier numbers to start our mornings. But thats not until we go back to work next week. In the meantime we are a little bit milder this afternoon. But youre probably wondering about the rain where has it been . Will we see any . We have had weak system grazing parts of the north bay. And we sit well below where we should for midfebruary. Only 66 of normal in santa rosa. 57 of normal San Francisco. And we go down the line 41 of average for san jose. It has been almost the driest february we have seen since we kept records. But 1864, no rain fell at all for the month of february. And we could tie that record, although its looking likely the third week of february we could see a pattern change. Thats coming up. Actually by the end of the third week. So well see its not a lot of rain. It wont help us out in the deficit department. But its something. And as we look at the Golden Gate Bridge you can see a little bit of fog there. When chinese and other asian cultures lion dance is traditionally performed to bring good luck and frrn. Its of course typically performed during the Lunar New Year celebrations. And one of the few remaining schools still dedicated to reaching the dance is actually right in the bay area. Lion dance represents the time when villagers had evil spirits wandering through the village terrorizing things and created the lion costume when they created these costume to scare away the bad spirits. A lot of the traditions are being withdrawn so this is important. The youngs white crane has been around now 50 years. And the main goal is to build brotherhood, keep traditions alive and share our art with the entire world to know where you came from. Thats a big sense of our team. Its actually quite rare to see the schools around San Francisco. There used to be over 50 schools within chinatown alone. Now there is only about five or six. The traditions you learn within this Lion Dance Team can be carried on many years. Helping me keep my traditions and it will help me learn a lot about my cultures history. Ive been enjoyed this since i was a little kid, maybe even like 4 years old. It takes a lot of preparation to become a really good lion dancer. Youre going to see a lot of acrobatic skills. We have a saying in the Dance Community taking ten years of practice to do a 10minute performance. Chinatown is a lot more special because all the traditions and cultures come together. As part of the Lunar New Year we were blessing all the stores in chinatown. Basically when the lion comes in and cigarettes your store and blesses it, it represents a whole year of prosperity and then wealth. The business doing well and such. Its very exciting when you see the lion come up to you and you get to see the features of how it reacts on the different expressions that can create, happy, scared, mad. We have a drum, ccymbals, those are in connection with the heartbeat of the lion. We bring joyous energy that makes me happy to see all the Smiling Faces i get to perform for. Does make me more proud walking the streets. Because this is our home base. We share what we have learned from our school. And show everyone we are holding our culture down.
