And decreased infantmortality rates to historic lows. As president , hell build on obamacare, cap medical costs, and will always protect a womans right to choose. Mike bloomberg a record on Health Care Nobody can argue about. Mike im Mike Bloomberg and i approve this message. As part of our effort to build a better bay area, were putting a spotlight on b. A. R. T. All this week. Yesterday we placed white boards at the Pleasant Hill station to let riders leave their comments and we got hundreds of those comments. So many they actually filled up five white boards. The most common concerns, cleanliness and security. We have a ticker running at the bottom of the screen where you can see what people wrote. It has enabled people to whisk across the bay for decades but it presents challenges of. Cache of the famous bridges. The but the transbay two that whisks b. A. R. T. Under the bay helps with peoples commute. It was built in the 1960s and it linked the system. Still, that link could be closer to a choke point. Studies could not guktd a decade or so, the number of commuters could outstrip the systems cass that , capacity. What to do about the commute crush . It turns out there is more than just one potential solution on the table. There are seven different couldnt cements. Theyre outlined in a new report called crossings. Recently released by the metropolitan Transportation Commission and association of bay area governments. The first two plans focus speeding car traffic. By either widening the san mateo bridge or building an all new bridge near the middle of the bay. The rest dive right into the bay itself with new underwater tubes or tunnel thats could revolutionize b. A. R. T. s capacity and much more. We think it is a regional project in scope. Reporter he is pointing out that the proposals are only in the earliest concept phase. The simplest idea calls for a second parallel tube from oakland to San Franciscos embarcadero. A second b. A. R. T. Tube could not only carry passengers much faster but potentially doekt a new tunnel proposed for mission street. That would definitely relieve some of the pressure. But on the current Market Street line. Crowding on the platform, exiting people to the street level. So any new tube, one thing well be looking for is to relieve the pressure. Reporter what if it linked up to a new third street station. Imagine popping off b. A. R. T. Near new chase center. Or mission bay. Then again, what if the new transbay tube took another track all together, using the new crossing for traditional rail to a expand it. Two of the plans focus a tube linking cal train with the rail lines creating an expanded rail system that could stretch from sacramento to Silicon Valley and running San Francisco service into the new satisfiles forclese so it would provide a one seat ride. Potentially from sacramento all the way down to san jose via the peninsula communities of San Francisco. I hope thats part of any crossing. Reporter they say you could even double up on a plan for a combination tube carrying b. A. R. T. And traditional rail, essentially side by side. Or even adding a separate lane in the tube for cars carrying cross bay traffic into San Francisco. So thats it. Seven unique concepts for crossing the bay. You may be asking yourself after all this, how much does it cost . Anywhere from 10 to 100 billion. Thats hundreds of times more than the cost of the original transbay tube. But it is essential for driving one of the most dramatic economies in 2020 is a bridge or tube that may have to cross yet again in the near future. Abc7 news. B. A. R. T. Planners told us theyre working a core capacity project that could increase rider efficiency by 45 . Part of that solution calls for hundreds of additional b. A. R. T. Cars linked. Here to talk more about the future of b. A. R. T. , the seventh district includes contra costa and alameda counties. They rely heavily on b. A. R. T. Senator, im glad you made it. You ran into a little issue. A train delay. 30 minutes. Stuck underground on oakland. And this does happen to you frequently, right . We were out there in Pleasant Hill yesterday with those Message Boards and new trains, reliable trains people talked about. Clenlliness, another big one, and more security. What can you do in your capacity . Are there things sacramento can do . We try to give b. A. R. T. Support on the financial side, allowing them to raise taxes and raise fees. They have to run the system. Thats where there is a breakdown. They were given 3. 5 million more to put them closer together. Theyre just not able to even manage the basics. They cant manage to ensure people feel safe. Floss cone of safety in b. A. R. T. There are more difficulties than ever getting parking and certainly, the costs are only going up and were paying more in taxes. While theres a futuristic vision about how we can create more connectors and other transtube under the bay, they struggle just to do the basics right. To monitor how they do it is why you fought for legislation to have the inspector gentle. So that shes seven months into the job. What kind of conclusions can we draw . She has a position thats supposed to be the eyes and ears of the public. Im glad its been established but there is a lot of resistance inside b. A. R. T. The feedback i get is theyre not happy that shes there. One feedback that i heard just this week was a staff member saying, hey, listen, we have trained to run. We dont have time the answer all your questions. So she has an important responsibility and well count her to speak forcefully and independently about how b. A. R. T. Can improve operations. We have a minute left about but i want to explore what jobina brought up. I want to know what you think about what needs to happen to make that reality . Is it that we need to unify all the transit systems . I think unification is important. We shouldnt have our transit in islos where no one talks to each other. Theres an excitement and a rush. We havent even seen a plan yet. So i want to say, slow it down. Lets make sure were doing it thoughtfully. Lets have basic management of our existing systems so we have safety, reliability and affordability. We have to do basics. Theyll not be willing to give us another dollar to do more. All right. Thank you for coming we choose to go to the and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard. President kennedy knew settling for halfmeasures wasnt good enough.
