At 29 linsey peoples wagner is the youngest in charge and shes just getting started. I never planned on being editorinchief, i never thought it would happen. Reporter linsey peoples wagner has come a long way to the fashion scenes of new york, paris, and london. Ive always loved fashion. I didnt really have that many examples of fashion growing up in the midwest. A lot of it was magazines, and thats really where my love of magazines started. Reporter she was just 28 when she took over as editorinchief of teen vogue in 2018, becoming the youngest and only woman of color to head a major magazine. For us, everything that we do has to make our audience feel seen and heard. Reporter her fullcircle story began as an intern at teen vogue. Her hustle eventually landed her a fashion editor gig at the cut. There she penned a groundbreaking article, everywhere and nowhere what its really like to be black in fashion. A lot of people that had been in the industry a long time had told me, this is not a good idea, youre going to get black balled, youre not going to be able to get a job after this. Reporter she spent six months interviewing over 150 black professionals in the fashion industry about their experiences. I was fearful the whole time as well. I felt very strongly that it was something that i had to do. Reporter her initial posts cehundreds of comments and rows of reshares, opening a conversation that had been taboo. Reporter she got the job. Between 2005 and 2013, only two black women graced vanity fair covers. Beyonce and kerry washington. From 2012 to 2016, nine out of 48 of Harpers Bazaar cover stars were of color. During that same time period at esquire magazine, just 11. We both understand kind of each others experiences and peoples expectations, how you have to deliver, how you have to be a boss at such a young age. Thats everything, right . Because i mean, ive had little girls who were, you know, 6 and 7 and come up to me and be like, youre just so cool, i cant believe it.
