In the inland areas, theyll warm up to 70 degrees. Tomorrow slightly cooler because of the sea breeze but then lots of spring warmth next week. W w thank you, rob. Xt week. W w time for our gma health alert. Coronavirus has hit countries all over the world. Dr. Jen ashton joins us now with five things we need to know about the virus as we head into the weekend. Jen, good morning. Thanks for being with us. We really appreciate your guidance and so many people are talking about this story. Lets start with thing number one to know. What is it . Okay, dan, were going by facts, not fear here so the first thing is, you have likely had a coronavirus before. So have i. They are responsible for 30 , approximately, of common colds seen worldwide. They are first discovered in the 1960s, but this strain is completely new. Thats why we call it the new coronavirus or Novel Coronavirus. Exactly. So whats the second thing you want us to know . I think the next thing is , published data thus far says that about 83 of all cases are mild. That is really important. The other important Silver Lining if you will thus far is that children appear to be largely spared. The reports out of china indicate that children make up only about 1 of all confirmed cases, and no pediatric deaths thus far. I find that profoundly comforting. And your second point leads to the third point, which is this is we have likely most of these cases are mild and, therefore, its probably quite a common thing. Yeah, and theres a great saying in medicine, dan, common things occur c hear hoofs outside the door, think horses and not zebras. What does that mean . If you develop a run of the mill fever and cough, you are much more likely right now to have a virus like rsv or influenza than coronavirus as of today. The number four thing that you think we ought to know is that it has to do with the number of people affected. Yeah,ok at these numbers, dan, much bigger. We have to look at the denominator. How many have been exposed, infected. How many develop symptoms . Then of that number, how many are tested, how many test positive and how many then develop severe disease and the fatality rate from there. So we have to expand our view to consider at least the possibility that the numbers are much bigger. Finally we just have a few seconds. Tip number five, how do we stay healthy . Go to ready. Gov. You will see a large list that people can do. The can work on this weekend to be prepared. Not just for this, as the cdc says, but this is your preparedness list in general. Ive already looked at it. Thank you so much, dr. Ashton, we really appreciate it. Eva, over to you. Now to the battle for the perfect blowout. We are turning to an important innovation in hair care. Becky worley joins us with products that could make that salon blowout possible at home. Good morning, becky. Reporter good morning, eva. Critical hair care innovation. A good blow dry mandates technique, time and focus so new technology that could let you create your perfect hair day . Yes, i want to try it out. This is a home blowout. The old conair and a round brush. Takes about seven minutes but i end up with frizzy hair thats a little bit curled on the bottom. When what i really want is that salon blowout look. Enter some new devices that say they can help. Two blow dryer curling combos and a new type of curler. First on the high end this crazy contraption from dyson. You use the brush function to dry the roots then to get curls you have to switch to this vortex extension. You let it grab your hair and then it winds around the barrel. Hold for a few seconds and you get a curl. You end up with a beachy look. It took about 8 1 2 minutes to dry the roots then curl all the hair. Was doing it with a hair dryer and a curling iron. But theres just one problem. This kit retails for 499. Oh, pricey. A less expensive option is the amika blowout curler at 100. Its not a blow dryer but just a curling brush. I like how you get right up to the root with this. The curl is different than anything i could get with a traditional barrel curling iron. Dare i say salon worthy . More of an understated curl. But on top of blow drying it took another seven minutes to get the curls done. For more of a sleek straight look, this from revlon. Their blowout brush is 59. To get from wet hair to dry, three choices to make your morning and your hair more manageable. Now, one thing i like about all of these, theyre great for clean hair, but ive also used all three on i wont call them dirty hair, but hair i washed yesterday. All three can perk up the roots and give me an extra day of curls before i need to wash. So, eva, becky with the blowout hair signing off. Not having to wash your hair day. Thanks so much, becky. Now over to whit. Thank you so much. Okay. We have deals steals and a special time today. Our first of two rounds happening savings this morning.
