Warmer weather moves back in. Well show you when and how hot we get in the accuweather forecast. Testing continues in San Franciscos Mission district. The goal is 5,000 by tuesday but today, they saw a decline. Tonight, San Francisco doctors are firing back as many are pushing for the state to reopen. Abc 7 news starts right now. As the bay area enters week seven of shelter in place, all of california remains under the order indefinitely. Doctors up and down the state are debating the best course of action for what is next. Good evening. Thanks for joining us. Im eric thomas. A video of two bakersfield doctors pushing for the state to reopen asap has gone viral. The doctors are saying are saying not so fast. Jr stone is live in the newsroom with details tonight. Reporter eric, there is a serious debate about when to open up. Right now, these two doctors from the bakesfield area say they have compiled their own statistics after testing more than 5,000 people. I say do we need to still shelter in place . Our answer is emphatically no. That from dr. Dan erickson and dr. Artin massihi who own one of the largest care facilities in the bay area. And both want Governor Newsom to lift the stayathome order. Others say not so fast. What were trying to do is prevent people from dying. Reporter dr. George rutherford is part of the ucsf Health System and says it is too soon. The early projections were 44,000 deaths in the bay area. There have been 210 so far. So i think were doing pretty damn good. Reporter erickson and masihis thoughts on the reopen have taken off online with millions of hits and thousands of likes. Abc 7 special correspondent dr. Alo pa tell cautions about using data from one location. It is not scientifically sound, to take one population, from one county, extrapolate the data and try to make a claim based on our national picture, or even the rest of the state. Erickson and masihi say the numbers show that covid is similar to the flu. Something that experts here in the bay strongly disagree with. Saying the mortality rate could be 30 times worse. If you see low number, we want to keep those numbers low. So as much as it sucks, as difficult as it is, we have to make sure that we are doing everything we can until we know for a fact it is safe to loosen the restrictions. The cases are still going up. In case anybody hadnt noticed. And the mortality rates, the death, the number of deaths are going up, california had the largest number of deaths in a single day, two days ago. Now, how that is reassuring everybody, and wanting to, you know, reverse whats been so successful, so far, i dont know. Reporter now we did reach out to Governor Newsoms office about what these two doctors are saying. At this point, we have not heard back. As to a timetable, on starting to reopen, dr. Rutherford says he could see possibly mid may, and dr. Patel says key see getting things in motion in late may to early june. Eric, now back to you. Jr, thank you very much. Now, just ahead, we could be expecting weeks more of the shelter in place order but there are signs that many of us are staying home less. The experts call it quarantine fatigue. Reporter the city of sausalito has tried to keep nonlocals away during the shelter in place order. Signs have been posted. And starting this weekend, every single city parking lot is closed to discourage day trippers yet people keep showing up. You cant go to work right now. Its against the law. But people are going on vacation. This video was shared in santa cruz. Parked cars lined up for more than a mile near the beach because beach parking lots are now offlimits. You couldnt find a parking spot if you wanted to. I have never seen it this crowded on the fourth of july, memorial day, labor day, christmas. Margarita was in Southern California for business yesterday and saw scenes like this. Crowded beaches. With little social distancing. The beaches are full of people. I dont think its right. Stay at home, it is just not easy. I think people are getting quarantine fatigue. Reporter the university of maryland professor lei zong is tracking a study with smartphone data which shows a disturbing trend, for the First Time Since stay at hoathome orders, Many Americans are staying home less. It is a shift of momentum that is not helping in terms of fighting the virus. Reporter the bowens say they will stay home as long as it takes. If thats what it takes to keep the world safe, then yes, lets do what we need to do but at the same time, we should be able to go out and self distance. Reporter that university of maryland study says over the past two days the number of californians staying home went from 40 to 30 . Were told the numbers here in the bay area are much better when it comes to compliance. Sausalito says this park remains open, but police are urging folks, to stay home if you can. Abc news. The number of confirmed Coronavirus Infections has jumped to more than 7600 across the bay area. There are now 262 deaths. Marin county reported a dozen new cases this evening. Sonoma county also reported a handful of new infections. Santa clara county hit a grim marker this morning. Another covid19related death in that hard hit community, has put the countys death toll at 100. The most of the ten counties you see on our map. Were also keeping track of confirmed cases in lake and mendocino counties for our viewers there. Lake county is reporting six case, Mendocino County is reporting 11 cases, neither county has reported a fatality. Well, today is day two of coronavirus testing, in San Franciscos Mission district. The goal is to test over 5,000 people by tuesday. Yesterday, 950 were tested but today that number could climb. Abc 7 News Reporter luz pena looks into the possible reasons w why. Reporter the Mission Districts the zip code with the highest number of covid19 cases in San Francisco. We tend to address some of these disparities by really expanding testing. The ucsf doctor is part of one of three test sites in this neighborhood. The goal of the study is to understand the underlying epidemiology or transmission of covid19. Not just in the hospitals who is coming in sick but out in the communities. Reporter the goal is to test over 5,000 people by tuesday. With bringing the hospital test sites to parks in the community. Like this one workers all got tested. Francisco sha cha vez is one of them who admitted if it wasnt for this test site he wouldnt have gone to a hospital. Yesterday, a total of 950 people got tested. Today, that number declined. Approximately 700 showed up to get tested. A lower number than anticipated. Why do you think that less people are showing up today to get tested . Its probably a multitude of things. I think a little bit is fear. I definitely would acknowledge that theres been people that ive spoken to, and in our community, that you know, are essential worker, theyre the bread earner of their household, and theyre scared to know if they have covid. Now the group of volunteers are ramping up that your outreach. What we decided to do late yesterday is do what we would say is a fifth round of outreach. In hopes by tuesday they reach their 5,000 goal. In San Francisco, luz pena, abc 7 news. Two new testing sites are set to open tomorrow, in the bay area. The first serves San Francisco residents, on seventh and brannen by appointment only. The other is a drive through Testing Service at the almeda County Fair Grounds in pleasanton that serves residents there and livermore, and efforts are only available for those with at least one symptom. But all in all, it is a pretty quiet night out there. Still breezy in the city right now. The wind at 36 miles per hour. Breezy through the delta. Gusting to 20 miles an hour. And the wind coming off that cool ocean water that is bringing the cooler temperatures in the already down to 46 in half moon bay. With that cool breeze. And 64 in the city. 57 in oakland. And it is currently 60 though in san jose. 61 in santa rosa. And brentwood, still pretty mild coming in with a temperature of 68 degrees. So well take a look at future weather. Plan on your monday for you, early tomorrow morning, the fog, the marine layer, thanks to the onshore wind, it will make a comeback to our coast and linger there for much of the day. It is really just an indication of the seasonable temperatures, that will be in check tomorrow, before they really warm up here on tuesday. So overnight tonight, well see temperatures continue to drop into the 50s. A couple of spots, half moon bay, napa, ukiah, holding in the upper 40s for starting temperatures tomorrow morning. A closer look at highs on our monday. Temperaturewise, in the south bay, mainly in the mid 70s to lower 80s. And 77 the high in san jose. And 80 in morgan hill. 76 the high in cupertino. Along the peninsula, the fog along the coast, stuck in the 50s, 59 for half moon bay, and 69 and sunny in redwood city. And 73 for mountain view. Downtown San Francisco, the morning fog will slowly break for afternoon sun. 64 the high in the city. 59 though for daily city. Breezy along the coast as well. The north bay, you will find some high clouds from time to time. Temperature right around 80 in sonoma. And 71 in vallejo. And 66 though in sausalito. And 79 in santa rosa. And east bay, 69. Inland, its warm in the upper 70s to lower 80s. About 80 in livermore. 77 the high in san ramon. Over california, you can see tuesday, warmth really takes hold. From reading, to fresno, to l. A. On tuesday, it will surge into the 90s. Even in San Francisco, it will be a warm afternoon, in the 70s and around the bay, on tuesday, our warmest spot will be in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. So its just one day of some heat in the bay. But still, a very warm day tuesday afternoon. Here is the accuweather sevenday forecast. Sunny tomorrow. Temperatures not too bad. But by tuesday, they spike very quickly. Warm to hot across the region. Much cooler air rushes in here midweek on wednesday. It stays with us.
