Firefighters say additional structures and the s. S. Jeremiah obrien ship are threatened right now. We have viewer video showing you just how far the flames were visible. People around the bay area saying they can see the flames and the smoke now rising up over the bay area. It is unclear what ignited the flames. Crews say no one has been hurt. So the winds are calm and that allows that smoke to drift right up into the atmosphere, straight upwards. And not looking at it dispersing at all because of the lack of wind. Well continue to see our high temperatures build to about 4 00 and then as we get toward the 6 00 hour, still very mild. 60s and 70s. Nice night ahead but then were talking about the heat building day after day. Excessive heat watch is in the forecast from my accu weather sevenday forecast. Well talk about it coming up. Back to our breaking news in San Francisco this is a live look from the fouralarm fire burning at a warehouse at pier 45 at Fishermans Wharf. Earlier weve been following this now for the past hour and you could really see the flames there. It does seem like mostly its been put out. It aligns with what the Fire Department is telling us that they have made progress on the fire but you can still see how much smoke there is. You could see how smokey it was across San Francisco right now. I saw someone on twitter say they could see smoke from there. This is new video. It is unclear what ignited the flames. You could just listen if you see and listen and hear how this person watching it is huge. A huge stunning fire that crews are thankfully making progress on. They say no one has been hurt. Well follow this throughout the newscast and give you updates as they come in. Meantime, happening today the Holiday Weekend combined with warm weather is sure to draw crowds to bay area parks. Local officials will be on the lookout for any packed areas that are in the area. Police in San Francisco are making sure people practice social distancing. This is what it looks like at marina green and the park. The city painted circles 6 feet apart. Officers will give out masks to those who dont have any. The mayor says this is not an excuse to break the rules. We dont want to shut down any parks but if it comes to the point where things are out of control and people arent following the guidelines we wont have a now to this morning, Sonoma County is surging ahead deeper into phase two to take advantage of the Holiday Weekend. This is brand new video from this morning showing that fire as crews battle the flames. They are making progress. They say there are no injuries. This is from earlier this morning within the past hour and when you look at the picture from afar you can see it does seem like they are making that progress. Were not seeing as many flames at this time but are waiting for an update from the San FranciscoFire Department sometime this hour is our hope. There is a media staging area and we have a crew on the way. This is also from earlier this morning. Someone posted on social media on twitter that they could see from their home. Huge fire. Just stunned. People can see the smoke now throughout the bay area. This is a fouralarm fire. We first got reports around 4 40 this morning. Ive said already we could hear the sirens from here at our station before coming on air. We are at the embarcadero and front street and could hear the sirens of firefighters making their way there. There are fire boats as well that are assisting in the bay. If we look at the live picture, you can see the smoke does seem to be dissipating throughout the bay area. As far as we and the this time it is burning in one warehouse. It is unclear if it made its way to other warehouses at Fishermans Wharf at pier 45 and firefighters tell us additional structures including the uss Jeremiah Obrien ship are in danger. Here is the live picture and you can just see if youve been following now that smoke is really traveling and making its way across the city. If you wake up and go outside you might see it or smell it or notice it but were not seeing flames right now. The only wind were going to see, liz, is the seabreeze which starts probably about 2 00 this afternoon. So right now, winds are calm. Coming out of the north. Anywhere from 1 to 2 miles an hour if that. That is allowing the smoke to drift upwards in the atmosphere. Not moving much. Not dispersing. Temperatures are in the low 50s. As you wake up this morning and smell smoke or sense that smoke, this is what its from. Here is our mount tam camera. You can just see the smoke as well coming out, flooding over the bay here and spreading out over the bay. So this is really going to be impacting everybody this morning in some way or another. Fishermans wharf not far from the square and so it is a place that so many people are familiar with. Not only people who live here but tourists all around the world. This is a very historic area, fouralarm fire this morning. We first got reports around 4 40 this morning. Progress has been made. That is what the San FranciscoFire Department is saying. No injuries reported. No word on the cause of the fire. That is still to be determined or to find out from fire officials. We do have a crew on their way right now so hopefully well get a live update soon. But again, fouralarm fire. This is the smoke making its way across the bay area and this is earlier today from on the ground there as the firefighters battle those flames. It quickly made its way up from the onealarm fire to a fouralarm fire this morning and weve been following this all morning since weve been on the air at 5 00 a. M. And we could hear the fire trucks making their way there from our studio here on the embarcadero. This is something were following all morning, fouralarm fire at a warehouse at pier 45 that were told has threatened additional structures and even the ss Jeremiah Obrien ship one of the two functioning liberty ships launched during world war ii. No update on whether the firefighters were able to save that ship. We will try to get those answers and more this morning. The National Weather service has issued an excessive heat watch to go into effect next week monday through thursday. It seems like a long ways away and extensive time period, four days. And it is. Usually we get our heat waves about two days and that seabreeze comes back. But this looks like the heat especially in our inland valleys is going to build and stay with us throughout much of the upcoming work week. So although today is very pleasant, it is really the only one where well have the overnight lows drop off to cool us off like they did this morning because after that, were looking at the nights to be very warm in the 60s and even 70s. With all of the sunshine, numbers will be pleasant. A little warmer though. 5 to 8 degrees warmer out there especially inland. Well still have the seabreeze at the coast and a look at santa cruz, 50 right now. Low 70s return. Beautiful day out there with the warming trend beginning today. And then the heat intensifies as we get to memorial day. So even tomorrow is going to be warm for some folks but it is really monday where temperatures are really going to feel pretty sticky and then building on after that. Into tuesday, wednesday, thursday looks like a return to a seabreeze but the excessive heat watch, you can see almost the entire bay area increasing the risk of heat illness, the first widespread and prolonged heat wave weve seen all year. Notice the marin county coast line and the san mateo coast are outside of the heat wave. Also the monterey area. But we will look for the numbers here on the holiday to reach 100 degrees. Antioch and fairfield upper 90s livermore. 80s around the bay. 70 San Francisco. Then on tuesday the pifrnks, excessive heat even closer to parts of the east bay. Tuesday and wednesday expect to be the hottest days. Here on wednesday 101 in livermore. Could see about 80 in San Francisco. Light to absent seabreeze by then. Mid 70s today in oakland. 83 in napa. And because we had some rain not too long ago, were not too concerned about the fire danger. As we go through the next several days it is this were going to be missing, overnight lows in the 40s and 50s to help cool us off. You can just see the visibility is not very strong with all of that smoke now spreading out across the bay area. Firefighters tell us additional structures and the ss Jeremiah Obrien ship are threatened because of this fire although we do know they have made progress and we are waiting for an update through the San FranciscoFire Department to see the state of the fire right now and whether they were able to contain it before it mae its way to the ship or other structures.
