And this morning, marin countys Public Health department is recommending distanced learning for students and that may make it not as critical a planned proes. Amy hollyfield is live with the details. Reporter the district was getting a lot of pressure from parents not reopen and just last night, district officials announced that they had changed their mind. The announcement just coming from marin countyffialshat shou to start the school year distance learning, the kids should not plan on being in the class room. Marins Public Health officer said with the current spike in covid19 cases, they need more time before bringing kids back to school. Officials say that they still hope that they can eventually bring students back, but now is not the time. It was looking like marin was going to have inperson classes at the start of school, about you concerned parents formed a coalition to push back and even scheduled a protest for this morning, it is set for 10 00 this morning at district headquarters. And in San Francisco, School Leaders say all 54,000 students will be getting their Education Online when classes resume next month. The superintendent says the decision was made after reviewing evidence from Health Officials as well as getting input from staff, students and families. We spoke with the School Board President mark sanchez about how difficult it would be to meet the social and emotional needs. When im on zoom, there is only so much that we can do. At least i can see them and they can chat with each other, but there is no substitute for on being in school live with your students. Definitely tough there. School administrators will reveal more about how it will work within the next few weeks. The district still needs to get chrome book in the hands of students who dont already have a computer. [ horns honking ] Community Members held a car protest around city college in San Francisco calling on the College District not to reopen classrooms for inperson instruction. They say doing so would send coronavirus rates even higher particularly in the communities of color and endanger students, teachers and families. San franciscos Health Officials are continuing to warn us about the continued surge in covid19 cases. So police to these numbers. Hospitalizations in the city are up 33 . The rate of new cases per day has risen this week to 7. 7 per 100,000 people. Remember the goal is 1. 8 per 100,000. The viruss reproductive rate in the city now has an infected person passing on the virus to an average of 1. 3 people. The acceptable number is 1. 1. 3 doesnt seem that difference from 1, that far from 1, but if we did not do better, we are looking at major problems by late august and september. Because of that, hair and nail salons, museums and some other businesses will remain closed indefinitely. When it comes to protecting our health, napa county has tightened up enforcement of the mandatory mask rule and the possibility of getting a fine. And it is not police or deputies who will be in charge of the tickets. Wayne freedman found out who is. Reporter the urban landscape has begun to look like an operating theater these days. In places like napa, going without a mask might land someone a fine ranging from 25 business. The county passed the emergency mask ordinance and members of the countys code enforce the team will be used. It is pretty much complaint driven.
