A bay area man says hes trying to do the right thing but has waited more than a week for covid19 test results. The drastic measures hes now taking to get some answers. More than 9,000 new cases reported in california today and Officials Say the Positivity Rate is trending upwards over a 14day average. Thats a key indicator of community spread. In the bay area there were at least 39,594 cases and 691 deaths. That count does not include san quentin prison which has 967 active cases. Thats down from yesterday. The only bay area county not on the states watch list is san mateo. San franciscos malls and nonessential offices must be shutdown by monday. Now to those testing frustrations. A bay area man is flying out to idaho where his wife says he can get tested for covid19 quicker and get his results back faster. Abc 7 News Reporter Lauren Martinez spoke with the couple tonight. She joins us live from the newsroom with details, and talk about drastic measures, lauren. Yes, dion, very drastic. Brian dublin worked in richmond im sorry, lives in richmond but worked in san rafael. He says hes experienced symptoms on and off but the process to get results has taken too long. Now his wife who works for an Airline Company is flying him out to idaho for three hours just to get tested. This is too much. Im flying you out here tomorrow. Youre going to take the test and you can fly home same day. Reporter Tiffany Valentine lives outside boise, idaho. She booked h husba bho lives in fight out to idaho sunday morning so he could get tested for covid19. Its easier for me to go in the morning and take a test and drive through and ill get the results in a couple of days. Reporter hes been tested once in the bay area. He says it took him ten days to book his appointment in san rafael through marin county and eight days for his results to come in. But now the couple says they cant even access those results online. Put his last name in and birth date, it came up we cant even find you. Reporter valentine says in idaho theres pop up testing tents within every few miles. Shes taken the test three times so far. Its been about two, three days from my experience to get the results back. In california its just its not that way. Reporter we asked the couple could brian be exposing others while traveling if he does have the virus . Working for airlis ofhe que have you had a fever, have you been exposed to anyone with covid19 in the past week. Those kind of things. His answers would be no just like everybody else. I feel like im taking a risk definitely but were taking a risk every day that we cant get an appointment and whether we can get a test and cant get results. Reporter the couple admits they are taking dramatic measures to get brian tested but they need to know. I just want the results. I just want to know whether, you know, a positive or a negative. Reporter tonight dr. Matthew willis the former Health Officer for Marin County Health and Human Services released this statement about getting test results back. Quote, we have no control over that process. It has to do with private labs and their ability to obtain the reagents in order to process the samples. As part of our coronavirus coverage were focused on businesses after a push from a lot of salon owners the state will allow some services to be performed outdoors. The California Business Consumer Services and Housing Agency tweeted last night that it will soon release updated information on how salons can safely offer some personal Care Services outdoors. A couple of days ago salon owners and state Assemblyman Jim Patterson asked the governor to temporarily waive a state law that prevented outdoor services. We put together a search and compiled a calculator that showed how risky certain scenarios are with coronavirus whether its going to school, an outdoor restaurant or a playidate youll find it on abc7news. Com. Two people including a child were rushed to a hospital after a fire at a duplex in daly city. Firefighters say this case is a good reminder of the importance of smoke detecters. Reporter facing a wall of smoke firefighters forced their way into the first floor of this duplex. We were called to a report of smoke in the building. The First Company found the building charred with smoke and they forced entry. Reporter inside the daly city home firefighters found an unconscious adult and a child inside a bedroom. There were two victims found inside the house, and both were transported to the local hospital in Critical Condition. Reporter according to neighbors it was a father and his child. Did you know the kids . Have you seen them out here . Thats why we were shocked because we see those kids riding their bikes sometimes out here. Reporter crews battled the flames erupting from the small kitchen. It appears smoke detecters may have played a role in this, delayed detection. Reporter firefighters remained on scene over four hours preventing a broader spread while the smoke and sirens woke up many in this neighborhood. Its devastating. Its really devastating. Its sad and especially to think that the alarms werent working. Reporter this fire remains under investigation and firefighters emphasized the importance of having working smoke detecters. The city of San Francisco has installed small speed bumps near delores park apparently to slow down skateboarders. Jeffrey tomblin the head of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency tweeted today he hates doing this but that two people have recently suffered injuries during hill bombs. This video is from one of last weeks incidents. Hill bombs are unsanctioned events that draw large crowds to see skateboarders go as fast as they can downhills. Tomblin says hes consulting with leaders about building stronger skate culture and codesigning skate streets in the city. A 12yearold boy was airlifted to the hospital after he was impaled while climbing over a fence to get to a Swimming Pool. The police rescued the boy at deer valley high school. Some pools in the county are still closed because of the coronavirus and this is not the first time the school has dealt with this. According to the staff there at the school theyve been having some issues with some kids that are climbing over the fence and getting into the Swimming Pool and swimming during these times. Pools are allowed to reopen in the county but some public ones remain closed. Weve been tracking our air quality this weekend because were monitoring the mineral fire in Fresno County and some of that smoke has drifted into the bay area. You probably notice some hazy sunshine during the day today and also yesterday. That will continue tomorrow, so theres an air quality advisory in effect for that smoke. We will find moderate air quality especially in the Santa Clara Valley and along the coast, so thats something were monitoring but nonetheless we will find fresher air moving in early next week. Winds right now theyre pretty light in most spots but oakland is gusting at 21 miles per hour. Its 13 right now in San Francisco. Just a light wind in hayward coming in at 7 miles per hour. So numbers right now were mainly in the 50s and 60s with a couple of locations still pretty mild away from the coast. You can see ukaya right now at 72, 62 is that current temperature in oakland mo. Santa rosa about 56 degrees. So tonight we will watch that fog roll back in, very summer like pattern so well find our numbers dropping into the low if not mid50s overnight for most of us. But it looks like it pulls back away to the coast pretty quickly tomorrow morning. So you expect sunshine pretty fast.
