Hundreds of people marched through oakland tonight in solidarity with protesters in the group began gathering around 7 30. Portland has seen nearly two months of black lives matter protests. Tensions escalated recently after the Trump Administration sent federal agents to the city. Good evening. Im dion lim. And im eric thomas. The protesters marched from oscar grant plaza to lake merritt. You can see protesters holding up peace signs as they walk around cars, at one point fireworks were fired at the Police Department with black lives matter, and there were lasers being pointed and the building was also spray round 10 15 a small debris fire broke out at the Alameda County superior courthouse in downtown oakland. Firefighters put it out quickly. Firefighters have not named the cause of the fire but in a tweet Oakland Police blamed it on, quote, agitators within the crowd of protesters. One more look at that protest tonight. Again, most protesters have been peaceful. Their rally began at 1 00 on the corner of el camino and embarcadero road. The wall of moms was formed to shield young and vulnerable protesters to keep from from being injured. Solidarity protests in other cities tonight. In vallejo neighbors say they are tired of sideshows after weekends of gunfire and screeching tires right outside their homes. The Police Department says theyve been flooded with calls and complaints and are now promising a crack down. Heres abc 7 News Reporter luce pena. Reporter at any given time sideshows like this one have been emerging all across vallejo. Just barely a week and a half ago it was 3 1 2 hours as well and the police were called multiple times and they cant do anything. Reporter the vallejo Police Department reporting, quote, an overwhelming number of calls from residents reporting this illegal activity and hindering officers ability to respond to critical incidents. James is among those who say his family is highly concerned for their safety. Its scary. I mean, two weeks ago we heard over a hundred gunshots and the police never came. Reporter gunshots that according to this resident make his neighborhood sound like a war zone. This last one was like assault rifles back and forth. Theyre shooting at people back and forth in cars. Reporter Vallejo Police identifying these four intersections as the most problematic areas where tire marks and burned tires are left behind. This is one of those problematic areas. Vallejo police estimating approximately 100 vehicles and at least 300 people involved in these sideshows at any given time. This olice department now vowing to crack down on these sideshows and announcing a group of resources working together with salono county Sheriffs Office and the california Highway Patrol among with others and adding, quote, officers will issue citations, seize vehicles and if necessary make arrests. Reidents now hoping this can bring peace back to their city. Some designated areas they can do it where its not endangering people. Turning now to the coronavirus pandemic. California has once again topped 10,000 cases in a day. Earlier this week the state hit 12,000. Another 151 deaths have been reported. We are getting information right now of 14 petaluma firefighters under quarantine tonight while one of their coworkers recovers from covid19. Petaluma 13 will remain closed until it is fully clean. It is expected to reopen on monday. Officials tell us the sick firefighter tested positive for covid19ny 19 hes goodtind but right t Petaluma Fire Department faces a challenge to fill shifts vacated by the quarantined firefighters. Over 15 members out thats a significant portion of our department. With only three stations that means many of the other members now currently on duty will remain on duty until other members are cleared and able to come back. The rancho adobe Fire Department will assist petaluma firefighters in responding to emergencies for the time being. Governor gavin newsom praised two fallen California Law enforcement officers, Alameda CountyDeputy Sheriff oscar walter rojja and a Los Angeles Police officer both dying from covid19. He said, quote, the deaths of these two heroes is a very real and painful reminder the risks these men and women face every single day protecting the people of california. He also extended condolences to the families of the deputy and the officer. Were also learning more tonight about a civilian of the Alameda CountySheriffs Department who died from covid19. 61yearold valerie joined the agency in 1997. The sheriff said, quote, were truly heartbroken by your passing. She leaves behind her three children a 13 grandchildren. Reporter the city is calling it their shared Spaces Program to support economic recovery for businesses by allowing them to use sidewalks and streets for Outdoor Dining. He opened march 6th and had to shutdown six months later. I had more customers that day than the previous five weeks combined. Low 80s around santa rosa and napa so just be gorgeous to get outside tomorrow as well. Heres a look at the week ahead. So temperatures will be near 90 degrees in concord, but notice on wednesday things really take a dip, and thats because we have a stronger onshore flow from a trough moving in. And this will provide breezier condition and cooler temperatures for everybody. But then that quickly moves out. Then thursday, friday, into saturday things build up again as High Pressure builds and warmth builds.
