Destroyed. Check out this maam that shows all the fires burning across california right now. The fires in gray are contained. The orange ones are still burning. These are major fires in california. We have crews coveringfires. We begin with Laura Anthony live in north bay, covering that lnu complex fire. Laura . Hi. We are in vacaville again today and i can tell you from ground here, it appears at least the conditions have greatly improved. About 10 degrees cooler. Oler. Ol. Ol once the smoke has cleared for some families, what theyre finaling is a total loss. At th top of the hill within hours to the bottom of the hill. Brian was one of the unlucky ones when it comes to the hennessey fire. One of those who fell victim to the happen hazardndom march thr. His home, a large garage, a barn now lay in ruins when so many others around him survived. Normally i would see cal fire trucks, bumpertobumper, rolling down the road, any time there is a fire up the road toward berryessa. This time there was not one fire truck to be seen. I talked on an officer as i left 4 00 in the morning on wednesday. I asked him, where are all the fire trucks . He said out saving lives. Reporter for all who live here, it has been an extremely stressful two days except for some small spot fires, the flames have moved on. What is left in their wake is hard to comprehend. Even for those who stood tall as the flames went by. She survived in her pasture. It went all the way around her. Reporter her horseas fine along with the house but the beloved barn was a total loss. I think it is unprecedented with the heat and the humidity and the wind. It was inevitable. Do you worry for the future . Of course. Reporter Brian Branigan told us, as hard as it is now, all he can do is look ahead. Will you rebuild . Yes, we will. You have to. Got to move on. Reporter unfortunately, his story is fairly typical of many out here. At this point, the official numbers i would say are probably a bit behind the reality. Dozens of homes have burned. Im sure they havent been able to count them all including out buildings, cars, all of. As i said at the beginning, the weather conditions seem to have improved significantly today. It is probably ten degrees cooler today, in the mid 90s, rather than over 100 as it was this time yesterday. The winds so far today have cooperated. At least from what weve seen, it appears the fire crews are able to get around and try to put out the spot fires before they ignite any more buildings. Live in vacaville. Abc7 news. Thank you. New information today on the pg e worker killed while assisting with the lnu complex fire in solano county. The employee was found unresponsive just outside of vacaville and died at the hospital. The employee was in the gates cabon area clearing infrastructure, power poles and lines to make the area safe for emergency responders. Once again, please keep the family of pg e in your thoughts andndolences and his family. This is the first reported death in relation to the fires. The employees name has not been released but were told hes fromhe vacaville n two blazes, meyers fire has burned 3,000 mb acres, and the walbridge fire. The walbridge fire is burning along the russian river, forcing evacuations there. Officials say Additional Resources and Better Weather helped them make progress overnight. Resources were able to maintain that line along sweet water springs road last night. It has gotten over the road a little bit. It did not make the run as we anticipated, and the burning conditions overnight were not as severe as they were the nightre progress against aknown unoffic stewards fire. The crews, their plan is to allow that blaze to burn into the walbridge fire. Now lets to Wayne Freedman live in healdsburg. Whats the latest there . Reporter good afternoon. Were right on the bordernd the creek valley. Were ie of the fire behind us over there. A short time ago, we went into those mountains where the fire was burning. It is not a pretty picture. Were driving carefully up middle creek road in Sonoma County through a burn state that this morning seemed benign when compared with what must have been t hell that roared through here last night. It breaks my heart. This is our backyard, my backyard. This is the fire weve been worrying about for decades around here. Reporter he skriks the walbridge fire. This afternoon he toured the browned out zone with the supervisor who usually has answers for everything. Does anyone know how many houses burned here last night . No. People are throwing around estimates, 15 to 20 or so but nobody knows right now. There are no confirmed numbers. Reporter but everyone knew to worry, not far away in healdsburg proper, residents watched the smoke and the flames above them. And contemplated evacuating. Fingers crossed. I think it may be moving away. Reporter one can only hopeful because back on mill creek road, the remnants only hint at what used to be here. A mail route. A beautiful drive through the woods that isnt anymore. And all complaining drive, the stuff of memories turned to ash. Seth used to live here. Theres about a six bedroom house there that is gone. Two houses on the left, one on the right, within the next couple hundred yards. Reporter we asked seth howl homes he thinks survived . Two houses out of probably 15. Reporter it is too early to know and almost too painful to guess. And were back live in healdsburg. Let me show you an interesting contrast. Thats blue sky, clearly, right next to us. Ill show you how close we are to the fire. Thats smoke obscuring from the sun right on the border line. As we assistant here at the dry creek valley, no evacuation but ashes are falling all around us. Hive in sonoma valley. Wage, thank you. In the east bay, the snu complex acres in alameda, contra costa. It is 5 contained. Evacuation orders have been issued for residents eat east of San Jose City limits but not everyone is leaving. Stephanie . Reporter we just learned the largest portion of the 20 fires that make up the scu lightning complex is moving south. I want to step out and show what you were seeing. No hazy sky which is hovering over the east foot hills. That large plume of smoke that is towering over the foot hills here. It is significantly better than what we saw a couple hours ago. What we did ind up this steep rugged terrain are families risking their lives to protect their homes and get to safety. A mere mile from the line of fire, elias garcia is cutting down shrubs. It was pretty bad. You can see right here, all the way like that. Reporter for many, it is too close for comfort. But if you ask garcia im not scared, no. Im just trying to save everything. Reporter no fearful just there to fight. Weve been fighting a fire there for two days with tractors and we saved some homes and such back there. The home owner wants to keep the legacy of his ranch alive. The family ranch has gone back to 1902. So we fight hard to keep it. Reporter their cattle, a sml of the 22 neighborhoods forced to evacuate across santa clara, alameda and contra costa county. Cal fire working around the clock to save what they can, up to 6200 homes threatened. Just like these men who despite orders to evacuate, are not giving up hope. Im a fate ighter. Im going to make sure everything is safe. Reporter heres another live picture of that smoke billowing in the distance. It is certainly hot out here. In the dry heat, low humidity, it is really making this fire difficult to contain. I just spoke to cal fire and they are concerned this fire will continue growing out of control. Given resources are stretched too thin. Especially because a lotfires, them. Theyre starting to conjoin together so thats a big concern. Abc7 news. Thank you. Take a look at this map.
