Hollowway says eight windows were smashed during the protest of jacob blake. She says she understands the bigger picture, the fight for social justice, but she says such attacks hurts Small Businesses many which are minority owned and operated. This cleanup will cost them 7,000 plus lost revenue. My Business Partner is black. All the people that work with us are women, so were trying to be a really positive part of the community. They actually through a fire extinguisher through the Second Office window. I actually wasnt that upset. If this is what it takes for everybody in america to love each other, im okay with it. Im okay with it. I just wish they knew who was behind those windows. Reporter tina is the office manager. She says the property manager wa security footage which shows the protest was peaceful except for a few who allegedly trailed behind. It was a small segment of people outside of the group that was protesting that came and did the damage. Reporter after everybody had walked by. Yes, they separated themselves from the group is what they saw on the cameras. Reporter the staff says these are tough times but they refuse to be distracted from the real issue. The cleaning, the repair is minor inconvenience. The greater conversation needs to be the protection and what can we do to advance the conversation that black and brown bodies are safe. Today the wisconsin state attorney general identified the Kenosha Police officer who shot jacob blake. Authorities say officer Rusten Sheskey is 7year veteran of t officers tased blake after they responded to a domestic incident. Pl blakes attorneys have said he was there to break up an incident. He was trying to get into the car where his children waited. Officer Rusten Sheskey fired his Service Weapon seven times. Officer sheskey fired the weapon into mr. Blakes back. No other officer fired their weapon. The community in kenosha braces for a fifth night of protest after murder charges were announced for 17yearold kyle rittenhouse. Investigators say cellphone video shows rittenhouse firing on demonstrators killing two and injuring another. A video also shows rittenhouse walking towards officers with his rifle after the shooting happened. Poice did nothing. He was arrested the following day in his home state of illinois. Protests over the shooting are gaining attention partly because pro athletes are taking part in their own protesters. Theyre not playing games. Abc 7 sports director larry beil is live with the details. Players refusing to take the court, refusing to take the field, weve seen that all over the country in the past few days in response to the shooting in wisconsin. Start with the nba and the bucks because thats where all this began. Nba players decided this morning they will continue to play. There was talk of shutting down the season but the playoffs will continue in the Orlando Bubble and so will the emphasis on social justice and the black lives Matter Movement. More games were postponed today. The giants and the dodgers they sat out last night, but they did play a doubleheader today. Really athletes from all the bay area teams are united in their message. Weve been trying all kinds of things and were not seeing enough action. Everybody was onboard. This a serious problem, and, you know, being able to have these Uncomfortable Conversations is where it starts. We obviously understand that the world is a bigger place than the baseball field, and when events of the world are overflowing onto the baseball field we dont have control over that. I think the thing that was most enlightening about aly conversations happened high around the clubhouse. Now that theres cameras and stuff out there people see it a lot more which is why i truly believe it will eventually change. Its not happening fast enough obviously. This is all about the racial inequalities that weve seen and have taken place, and its not acceptable. And it has to change and its time to change. Whos who of bay area sports there that mop taj. The warriors not in the bubble playing but they did tweet this message saying enough is enough. A source connect today the nba tell me players are going to pressure owners to make political changes, and theyre going to push for Actual Police reform. One item on the agenda that will be immediate they want nba to open up their arenas. But espn mark spears reported only 20 of the players in the bubble are actually registered to vote. Thats an easy one to fix. And if youre going to preach, hey, we want everybody to vote, everybodys got to be registered obviously. Yeah. Such a great point, larry. So anything accomplished from this really do you think . Yeah, i think a number of things. One, the players learned really how much power and leverage they have. Theres hundreds of millions of dollars on the line here for the players and the league. And a lot of billionaire owners are going to feel the kind of pressure they have never felt before because many of them will be forced to go against their preferred political leanings shall we say. And look, the consequences are obvious. If you have a star player like lets say yoenis with the Milwaukee Bucks and hes unhappy with the situation and doesnt feel like things are changing hes out, and suddenly your whole franchised is devastated. So the players i think they realized they knew it before but more than ervin a era of player empowerment they want to see yoenis and lebron. More coming up in sports. Players are calling their action a boycott, others say it meet the definition of a strike. But whatever you call it would have been really unthinkable 10 years ago maybe even five years ago. Abc 7 news anchor eric thomas shows how some pro athletes had a long time civic leader view. Reporter Bill Cartwright played 15 seasons in the nba, 16 with the chicago house Chicago Bulls teams of the late 80s and early 90s. He says pro sports has never seen anything like this, nobody has. Ive got friends of mine who are shocked, and im saying to them this has been going on for a long time. Where haveoubeor t police shog of jacob blake in wisconsi has tapped into a deep well of pain and anger for todays pro athlete. Thats why every nba team scheduled to match up in the first round of the nba playoffs decided yesterday not to play. Thank goodness that were fighting. Thank goodness that we have guys who are not afraid to put themselves out there. Reporter and its not just basketball. Several Major League Baseball teams with games today decided to take the day off and protest including the giants and the as. Former nfl pro bowl defensive end turned activist Michael Bennett took part in a live stream today called rise up for justice. These athletes know the power they have with their voice and being able to articulate what they really mean and care for and what their principles are. Reporter in the past fear of losing their jobs and millions of dollars may have kept athletes especially athletes of color from going public. But former San Francisco mayor and civil rights attorney willie brown says those days are gone. And im just pleased that the compensation comp pone want no longer retards people who need to speak out from speaking out. Reporter Major League Soccer and the wnba have now joined the boycott with other leagues and it may not end there. Eric thomas, abc 7 news.
