Really treacherous out there with visibility just under two miles everywhere or less than that. So were going to keep this for you the next few hours. The next two days, today is the worst day out of the weekend. The smoke begins to lift out of the bay area into your sunday and we hope that continues. There is a area off shore that could bring in at only the cooler weather. Better winds. Better air quality but a chance of showers into next week. Today it is hazy. Muggy. Could see 80s inland but not a good idea to try to spend a lot of timeout doors or even for the bets. Sports are highly in question this weekend for both the San Francisco giants and the 49ers. They are threatened by problems that only 2020 could provide. We start with the giants whose game is postponed after one player tested positive for covid19. The team was ready to play the San Diego Padres last night but just minutes before first pitch, teams got the news they wouldnt be playing. The name and condition of the giants player is being withheld for now. Both teams are now undergoing further tests and contact tracing. Remember the oakland as had a pitcher test positive last month and postponed some of their games because of that. The next series the giants have on the schedule is tuesday against the seattle mariners. For the 49ers, their start is truly up in the air. The scheduled game at levi stadium might have to be delay order moved because of the wild fire smoke and the unhealthy air quality. If the air quality index is above 200 tomorrow, then they will have go to a plan b but this morning, levi stadium remains hopeful. It looks like it wont be in that unhealthy range for long, which is where the nfl kind of looks into that forecast in making decisions on whether or not they postpone or cancel games. Whenever the 49ers play it wont be in front of any fans of course. Reporter the level of fatigue is high enough that were seeing firefighters pull themselves out of engines during an active fire which is unprecedented. Reporter without enough resources to adequate staff, firefighters are coming offer the front lines in shock. Having firefighters call unable to speak, physically shaking, not able to breathe. Not able to take a deep breath. Not able to sleep. And those are the guys that are going to go back out until they cant, until were going to have is a permanent problem. Reporter the founder and executive director of this foundation, a non profit that focuses on physical and Mental Health rehab for First Responders and veterans. My fear is, and this is from my experience at the va, that ear going to continue to see our suicide were going to see stress rise. We are right now. And then al night long you are using fire to fight fire. Reporter Michael Musgrove is a training captain with the santa rosa fire department. He says there isnt enough food or water and certainly no sleep when you are on 32 hour wildland fire shifts. Were not really meant to be in that fight or flight for that long of time. Musgrove has been in enthalpy and rehab at the Six Foundation for a year. He says 75 santa rosa firefighters, more than half the department are now getting treated at the facility. Im seeing people stretched thin. And but also i see resilience. I see people using these therapies. I see people Getting Better. And perhaps no more important a day to talk about Firefighter Health than september 11th. Departments across california posted tributes. It is a reminder of our job and how serious it is. And the risks that we do take. My wondering today on 9 11 is what would that have looked like had those departments been as underresourced and as exhausted as we are now . It is a day weve been waiting for. And our hotels are prepared to open. They have cleaning guidelines and protocols weve been working on for months with them. And were excited to be able to welcome people back to our hotels. Reporter for those hotels and businesses that survived the pandemic, the news is welcome. Rizzo is perhaps more cautious than optimistic. The city looks a bit apocalyptic if you want to know the truth. So we have to ask ourselves just because we have a green light to open our hotels does that nisly mean that tourists are going to want to come to stay in the city. Better air quality here. Maybe the southern sierra. But this image, this is whats important. An area of low pressure but it is also the smoke being intrained in this low. That is how far out the smoke goes into the paefk. Another low pressure hooks up allowing for increase in winds, change of direction and cleaner parcel of air after this weekend. Mount tam with the haze, smoke and fog, 56 in the city. 60 in oakland. 62 in san jose and 55 in moon bay. 62 in concord. 61 livermore and the visibility down that nothing less than a mile and where it continues to stay despite the advisory expiring at 9 00. You can see that were still looking at a lot of dense fog out there. So do be careful. Half mile in hayward. Mile in petaluma. And Half Moon Bay very foggy. Air quality from very hazardous to very unhealth out there. So not much is changing. Might see a little haze but were not getting t we need to create that sea breeze. As a result the winds are light. They continue to be light. But we will see some of that haze, that sunshine try to work through the layers of smoke. Not quite enough today to help us out. And the view from sfo shows the fog mixed with haze and smoke. So the better air quality headed our way as the system gets closer to the coast late thug afternoon. Noticed it was warmer yesterday. Numbers made it to the 80s. Tuesday, the rain goes up into the pacific northwest. Wednesday gets closer. Thursday it loo like were going to continue with this trend of cooler weather. And the winds that should come out of the southwest shifting that smoke into the northeast. Unfortunately into the Sierra Nevada. Today the range is with us with the hazy muggy conditions.
