Right now a very, very shallow and kind of foggy marine layer that is kind of really stuck at the coast and trying to push into the bay the next couple hours and quickly move back to the coast keeping you in the 60s and 70s and the rest of us in the 80s and 90s this afternoon. Reggie . Thank you. Today we expect to get an update from cal fire to talk about how widespread the glass fire got overnight. Jobina fortson at the live desk with details. Jobina . Reggie. This will help direct more resources to the fire fight. Governor newsom said he also sent a letter to President Trump asking for fire assistance grants. Heres where the glass fire is burning right now in napa and sonoma counties. Its scorched more than 36,000 acres and is still zero percent contained. Take a look at the current evacuations in napa county. You can see the city of calistoga is fully in the blue area, which means mandatory evacuations. Yellow means an evacuation warning. This is governor newsoms second time declaring a state of emergency because of the wildfires this year. Just last month, he made a disaster declaration because of the fires burning in the bay area. Kumasi. Thank you, jobina. Santa rosa city schools will not hold any online classes today or tomorrow because of those fires and the evacuations. The yellow area is evacuation warnings. Abc7 News Reporter Julian Glover is live at sonoma marin fairgrounds in petaluma with more on this. Julian. Good morning, kumasi. Tens of thousands of residents in the north bay told to evacuate their homes to seek safety here at the sonoma marin fairgrounds. Just one of five shelters in the county now accepting people. Though they are actually housing people. If you come here, you have to be in your car or rv and it appears they still have plenty of space at this time. We do know that space is limited at all of the shelters in Sonoma County. Covid concerns keeping those shelters far from what would be their max capacity. At least one of the shelters are at capacity. We spoke to a couple yesterday who had to leave their homes immediately on sunday. They told us the deja vu of evacuating at a moments notice is getting old. We went through the 2017 kind of the same scenario. We got our bags ready to go, but, still, at the last minute, even thothouugh you think your ready youre scurrying around looking for the last few things. Looking at your list and checking it twice. Here at the sonoma marin fairgrounds, plenty of space, but things did have to transfort off. Just days before the glass fire broke out and now you can see behind me several rvs and cars now seeking refuge as theyve had to evacuate their homes within just a moments notice. What you heard from that couple there is the story of so many people in Sonoma County this morning. For now reporting live, Julian Glover, abc7 news. Thank you, julian. Several wineries and vineyards have been destroyed or damaged by the glass fire and that includes part of the castle winery in calistoga. The owner says the nightmare come true. The loss is significant. Our main building, the castle, did not burn. So far. Yeah, you heard him say that. Luckily the 13th century inspired tuscan manor on the property did survive. Devastation hit santa rosa with several homes burned in the skyhawk neighborhood. Abc7 news was there as a hot spot flared up last night at a home. Evacuees say they have seen this all before. We get out of here a little quicker than before, but it seems like, you know, its becoming a pattern. We dont want to have to get too adapted to this evacuation stuff. Firefighters use a control burn to battle flames at the state park. They say the winds did die down yesterday and that helped the fire fight. Abc7 has teamed up with the red cross and tv stations across the west coast to raise money for people affected by the fires. You can donate online right now. Go to redcross. Org abc. Fresh off a 60hour shift, one san jose firefighter decided to jump into action. Why he decided to drive up to the north bay on his own to help fight the flames. Plus it comes up every time these huge fires hit. The smoky air quality, the rise in temperatures. Next, the new Stanford Research on Climate Change forecasting. Yeah, i bet its not going to be very good news. All right. As far as temperatures go, i do not have some good news up in the north bay either. Look how hot it is going to be through at least saturday were talking temperatures in the mid to upper 90s and humidity level they do one of the most deven in normal times. S, our Frontline Health care workers. And when these heroes lack the resources they need, that risky job gets ten times harder. Prop fifteen makes corporations pay their fair share. To invest in our communities, in our clinics, in the essential workers who treat everyone rich, poor, and inbetween. Whether its this pandemic or the next health crisis, vote yes on prop fifteen. Today is another spare the air day and experts say these days of extreme heat and what lies ahead for our climate. Stanford researchers found a degree celsius of warming in just the past four decades. That means were more likely to experience warm autumn seasons. Fire departments across the bay area are preparing for the possibility of more destructive fires. So, all the factors coming in right now this is the worsecase scenario for fire season. Tripledigit temperatures. Theyre ready to respond to any type of regitation and outin dublin, unincorporated livermore and sunol areas. Those firefighters doing all they can with that planning you just heard so that theyre not caught off guard. Yeah, no. No matter how you look at it, reggie. That news is not good. And the earth is accelerating. Its warming faster than the models were predicting in the 90s and a couple decades agoe. Lets look at what is going on with our temperatures in the south bay. Feels much more comfortable and the air is easier to breathe right now. 59 around campbell and morgan hill the cool spots and most of you in the 60s. Look at this mid 50s to mid 60s out there. Temperatures up to 15 to 16 degrees cooler than yesterday. 68 right there as we look from our roof camera at the Ferry Building and also the marine layer and still going to be hot inland and its going to be better this weekend to do anything outside as far as chores, yard work or even walking the dog. You can see the sea breeze today and it under cuts most of the smoke for most of us outside of the north bay. Were getting pretty lucky. As we head into tomorrow, notice the see breeze starts collapsing in the morning and start to collapse into the afternoon hours and the air quality by this forecast could be even worse tomorrow and the conditions for thursday could be even worse than wednesday. Well talk about that coming up in the accuweather sevenday forecast. Heres jobina. Thank you, mike. Goodern moin morning, everyone. Looking at the map of our bay area and the roads. The two slow spots we want to point out. Moving through oakland, you can see circle there and southbound 880 in between 23rd and 29th avenues. Road work being picked up there and slow coming out of tracy into the Altamont Pass but picks up once you reach livermore. First, well begin with the bay bridge toll plaza but lets see which one comes first here for our live cameras. Yes, so, a big back up at the toll plaza and metering lights came on this morning and also this low once you make your way on to the bridge, things wont really pick up until you reach about Treasure Island and then for the Golden Gate Bridge, the chp has issued a fog advisory here. You can certainly see visibility low as you make your way in and out of San Francisco. Be sure to take your time. Reggie and kumasi. Thank you, jobina. Coming up next, a new round of reopenings. What we are expecting here in the bay area. The electric car revolution ms. Williams weve been working hard. Ms. Robinson . To make learning fun again. Health and Human Services secretary dr. Mark ghaly will speak at noon and bring it to you live on our abc7 news app. A great way to see where your county stands in transition rates. Its all updated on our website abc7news. Com. The governor says some bay area counties could move into the next tier starting today. This comes as the world is reaching a sobering mildstone. The covid19 death toll passed 1 million, that includes more than 200,000 americans. Some local Health Officials are worried because the transition rate is creeping up here in california. There is some good news for playgrounds. The state is now allowing them to reopen for the First Time Since march, but restrictions you need to know about. Any public playground that is fully outdoors can reopen. Anyone 2 years of age or older has to wear a face mask. Officials say do not use the playground if different households cannot maintain social distance. You cant eat or drink at the playground. That is to make sure that everyone is keeping their masken. And visitors should limit their stay to 30 minutes. As wildfires rage across california, there is no question that many firefighters are being pushed to the limit. A san jose firefighter coming off of a 60hour shift ended up racing to santa rosa to help save his girlfriends parents home. I drove straight up to their house and i was going to hang out and triage it and basically move anything flammable away from it and cut down what trees i could. He saw flames when he turned the corner in their neighborhood. He the Fire Fighting gear in his car and soon after santa rosa firefighters got there, too. They worked together and then n firefighters moved on to the next scenes. He called the onduty firefighters the real heroes. I mean, arent they, though . That is a lot of work and for such a little amount of time. It is. I just saw, its really amazing to see these firefighters who are coming from totally different states to come. We appreciate all of that. That is so nice to hear. I mean, they have to be exhausted. This is so long and so nonstop. They go from one fire to another fire and another fire. When do they get a break . For a couple months during the winter when they go back to their regular positions . Hats off. All but love for you guys. And respect. San jose 61 right now under a partly cloudy sky. Not as hot today but air quality issues do stick around. Comfy lows tonight. The smoke will increase and well get relief from the heat and the unhealthy air and we have to wait until saturday and sunday. Heres a look at your fog forecast and overlayed the winds on there and you can see how theyre light and by noon most of the cloud cover back to the coast and even there well have a little bit of sunshine from time to time. But notice by the time we get to 7 00, it gets a little bit stronger. So, the closer you are to the coast the more pleasant it will be air quality wise and temperature wise. As you move inland, nearing the upper 90s in morgan hill and gilroy and mid 90s through most of the south bay with more smoke and fewer clouds and our records today. 79 at millbrae and low 70s along the coast and mid to upper 70s wouldnt be surprised if a few areas hit 80 around downtown and South San Francisco and sausalito. 88 in san rafael and everybody else mid to low 90s through the north bay. 78 in richmond and 82 in oakland and everybody else mid to upper 80s along the east bay shore and we have mid 90s to near 100 in our inland east bay neighborhoods. For the smoke and the clouds. Look at this, weve got temperatures in the mid 50s to low 60s. So, maybe not a great night to keep the windows open. The as play at the coliseum at noon today. Im not concerned about air quality for todays game there. The worst in the north bay and if it spreads south during the evening hours and overnight after the game ends. Look at that. Ten degrees cooler by the weekend. All right, thank you. Something to look forward to. Good morning america coming up at 7 00. Ginger zee is in new york city with what is ahead. Good morning, reggie and kumasi. Great to be with both of you. President trump and joe biden getting ready to face off in primetime in their president ial debate. The latest on the coronavirus emergency. A new study finds an increase in the diagnosed cases among children. More students and teachers, of course, are back in the classroom. Kind of makes sense. Well talk about that. And then Shannon Doherty is talking about living with cancer during the pandemic. Her health and her interview since breaking the news about her diagnosis on gma. A wild night on dancing with the stars. Some dazzling disney performances, but the magic did run out for one couple who has to say goodbye to the ballroom. They will join us live and you will see it all coming up here on gma. Reggie and kumasi. All right, thank you, ginger, for that. New details this morning on teslas vision for the future. Ceo elon musk says he expects the Palo Alto Company to be turning out 20 million vehicles. On twitter yesterday, musk also predicted that the electric car industry as a whole will be manufacturing 30 million new vehicles by 2027. For some reference, more than 70 million cars total are made globally every year. 2. 1 million electric cars were sold worldwide in 2019. Musk did say that his prediction requires consistently excellent execution from the industry. Coming up next, we are taking a look at how to save halloween. What local Health Officials are suggesting that you could do to also stay safe while youre enjoying it. My favorite story of the morning. How proposition 16 takes on discrimination. Some women make as little as 42 of what a man makes. Voting yes on prop 16 helps us fix that. Its supported by leaders like Kamala Harris and opposed by those who have always opposed equality. We either fall from grace or we rise. Together. Proposition 16 provides equal opportunities, levelling the Playing Field for all of us. Vote yes on prop 16. You make my heart sing wild thing i. Think i. You know what i think . I think you owe us 48. 50. Wild thing. If you ride, you get it. Geico motorcycle. Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more. Well, one of our main three components we look for is gone, the winds. The heat and the dry air is going to remain through at least friday. I mean, look at these temperatures near 80 in San Francisco with 80s, 90s and even 100s as you head through the bay. Well get rid of the 100s and most of the 90s by saturday and still 60s, 70s and a80s and one of our coolest day with 60s along the coast in San Francisco and 70s around the bay and 80s inland. Also be some of our cleanest air we breathe this weekend. That sounds nice, thank you, mike. In an effort to stop the spread of covid19, local Health Officials are discouraging you from your typical halloween activities like parties and trick or treating. So, here are their suggestions. They say that you should focus on decorations. That you should limit activities to the people who live in your home that maybe should visit an outdoor Pumpkin Patch while visiting and virtual distance and hold virtual parties or contests. Because of the pan dedemic, Software Engineer is getting creative. Luke usually hosts this Haunted Science Lab in his garage for the holiday but this year doing something a bit different and deploying this robot named artie. You can see he delivers candies to trick or treaters to encourage social distancing and then he adds this. This is a candy canon and it can fire the this is just so much. The candy six feet away. Im cool with artie. That canon all i want is that canon. That looks way too fun. Friend. Youll put an eye out, kid. You will. Well, coming up next at 6 30, back to our live breaking
