They want all death row inmates released. About twothirds of prisoners inside have contracted covid. They have been on lockdown since march with limited access to medical needs. This summer Governor Newsom approved the release of 18,000 inmates to reduce the threat of covid19 in state prisons. According to the California Department of corrections, 1700 inmates are infected with the virus and 69 have died since the pandemic began. The National Lawyers guild is joining a group of attorneys and legal workers calling for changes in the way santa rita jail deals with covid. The group says there are five major covid outbreaks at the jail since march.
