San mateo county supervisor david canapa denounced these arrests and called them a political tactic 25 days from the election. This is purely about politics and purely about the administration appealing to their base of voters. I. C. E. Categorized their operation as one free of politics and responded in part. I. C. E. Protesters will gather today to call for justice for a man shot and killed by a napa sheriffs deputy this week. 47yearold juan garcia of napa died after being shot during a traffic stop late monday night. The Sheriffs Office says garcia got out of the car and approached the deputy while keeping a hand behind his back. When asked to show that hand, he didnt. The deputy fearing a gunshot fist. His family says garcia was shot eight times. The Sheriffs Office says they will release body camera footage next week and the protest w ns at 1 00 p. M. A new report finds that Drug Overdose deaths in San Francisco have already surpassed last years staggering number. The medical Examiners Office says around 470 people have died from accidental Drug Overdoses in just the first eight months of the year. That averages to about two deaths every single day. Fentanyl is to blame for most of these fatalities. Last year there were 441 Overdose Deaths. The report says San Francisco could see 700 Overdose Deaths by the end of this year. And San Francisco unified has dropped a bomb shell proposal. The board announced that they may switch an elite high schools admission process to a lottery system. Abc News Reporter kate larson spoke to emotional parents and a School Board Member about what the future may hold for Lowell High School. Lowell high school in San Franciscos sunset district is a nationally recognized school, can you notally students are admitted based on grades and test scores. But because of the pandemic, grades and scores have mostly been eliminated, so the proposal is that all entering freshmen would have an equal opportunity to attend through the Public School lottery system. On october 20th the board will vote on an admission policy change for one year, but. Fire investigators have seized equipment belonging to pg e as it looks into the cause of the zog fire in shasta county. The fire started at the end of september and has killed four people. Meanwhile, in the north bay firefighters are making headway on the glass fire. Containment is now up to 78 . The wildfire has burned more than 67,000 acres or about 105 square miles. Owner Amanda Michael said the thief came in thursday pretending to be a worker who was there to look at replacing a vandalized window. He got on a ladder to take measurements, boxed up some robot and godzilla toys and then took them with him while employees were helping customers.
