As the virus becomes more prevalent in the community, the chances that person sitting next to you at a dinner table or next to you in a store is infected is higher than it was, lets say, a month ago. Weve got to be super careful. New stats show thanksgiving could see the most air travel since the pandemic was declared. United Airlines Just added 1400 new flights. Add to that christmas and new years celebrations on horizon, dropping temperatures driving people indoors as numbers spike in the bay area and all over the country. Its a formula Public Health officials are extremely worried about especially considering everyones favorite holiday activity. Sit for many hours together with masks off because theyre eating. Thats a combination of all the things that are about as worrisome as you can imagine. You kind of get behind the eighth ball and you get to the point of no return and its once you start increasing y y increase exponentially. They are looking for spikes because of halloween and elections. The worries people are getting complacent as the virus remains as contagious. The problem is the virus doesnt care, and its the same virus as it was all along. Reporter the other warning from the doctors we talked to is the socalled third wave could be worse and last longer than the previous two, which lasted about two months. One reason is that the holidays could bring more people into the bay area traveling from covid19 hot spots. The thing that keeps me up at night is over running a hospital with patients and not having enough staff to take care of them, enough icu beds. Reporter doctors say you must remain vigilant and remember nine months into the pandemic, we have a long way to go and a lot more to lose. The good news about vaccines means if we hunker down for six or eight months, we may be in a better place next year. Of course, coronavirus doesnt care who you are or where you live. Were all at risk, but the risk level varies. So lets take a look at the situation where you live. Well start in the south bay. Santa cruz county just moved backwards from the orange to the red tier this week currently Santa Clara County is in the orange tier. Staffers with the Santa Clara County office of education staged a rally this morning to protest what they say is a rush to reopen schools. Members of the Services Employees International Union want more safety measures. A spokesperson provided a statement in response to an abc 7 news inquiry saying health and safety remain the top priorities. Fewer than 10 of students have gone back to in person class. Along the peninsula, san mateo is in the orange tier. San francisco is the only bay area county in the yellow tier with the fewest restrictions, however, San Francisco is going to shut down Indoor Dining after tomorrow night because case counts are rising. Also, indoor gym use will be more limited. Fewer people will be allowed in movie theaters and any high schools looking to reopen will have to wait. In the east bay, Contra Costa County moved from orange to red this week and alameda might do the same next week. Alameda county announced today any future reopenings are on hold. Case rates are rising so rapidly officials arent ruling out the possibility of proactive are things where gs that we people are actually taking off their mask indoors and thats going to be by in large things where people are eating. And so, you know, certainly, Indoor Dining is a possibility. The north bay is home to our only county in the bay area in the purple, worst tier. Thats Sonoma County. Napa is orange but may go to red. And there is a lot of frustration in Sonoma County because it cant improve the standing even though test numbers actually have been improving. And now the county thinks it knows why. Their recounting two weeks of the last testing and resubmitting. We werent getting the benefit we thought we should have for actions we were taking. A story of china down Good Samaritans working together with San Francisco police to make an arrest. When you see someone especially like an older woman like yelling for help. You kind of just react. Help. During a routine trip to china town to buy groceries, lily and her partner tom house knew they hod to spring into action when a young man snatched a cell phone from an elderly womans hands. We see a gentleman running by with something in his hand. I asked lily should we go after the guy . He said hell yeah. We took off of him. Reporter they chased the man in her car down stockton and a couple blocks later when tom, a 25year Service Member jumped out and gave chase on foot. I turned and i said hey, give me the phone back. I could tell it was a phone. He turned and looked and his eyes got big and he turned and through the phone at me. Reporter also witnessing the incident founders of the peace corps. They stood by to console the victim and jumped in themselves. We chased him down to turk murphy ally and we teamed up together and chased the thief down. Rain will arrive in the north bay late tomorrow morning. Then the rain will be spreading to all areas of the bay area by the afternoon and evening. And we can expect sunny and warm this weekend. Even if youre not thinking of going that way, travel will be difficult back in the bay area, rainfall totals will range from a few hundredths of an inch up to about. 3 or more in others. Moving back to tonights conditions before the rain arrives, look for low temperatures mainly in the upper 30s and the inland valleys so it will be chilly especially in the north bay. Closer to the bay into the coast, it wont be quite so chilly with lows in the low to mid 40s. Highs tomorrow upper 50s on the coast. Up to about 60, 61 degrees right around the bay shoreline. Inland areas the fornorth bay c and chilly with highs in the 50s and other inland areas will see low to mid 60s tomorrow and we expect king tides saturday through tuesday. When we have higher than normal high tides we often have localized flooding in low lying areas like the park and ride area in mill valley so baear tht in mind. Here is the sevenday forecast. The weekend, we can expect mainly sunny skies saturday and sunday and a nice warmup begins on sunday that carries us through tuesday. Those three days sunday, monday, tuesday, inland highs low to mid 70s. Up to 70, maybe above around the bay shoreline then temperatures will taper off a little bit on wednesday as we have another system coming our way that may bring us showers or some rain on wednesday and thursday.
