We became the second state in the country to have 1 million infections since the pandemic began. More than 5,000 new cases and 18 deaths were reported just yet. Health Officials Say the states numbers are trending in the wrong direction. Stricter safety requirements begin in Contra Costa County today. This means that gyms, stores and malls all have to reduce capacity. This comes after the state moved the county back to the red tier because of rising cases. Restaurants, same formula. 25 instead of 50 . Religious Services Must scale down to 25 capacity. Health Officials Say they have been watching the number of cases go up and theyre doing this for the publics safety. Some people we talked to say they know it wont be easy but they agree with the move. I think that everyone is suffering from pandemic fatigue at this point. But now is actually the most important time with cases surging, not only nationally but also locally. Now is when we really have to crack down before things get really bad. A couple of total closures to tell you about thats indoor swimming pools and bowling alleys. They will need to close again. This county was in the orange tier for two weeks. Now theyre being pulled back to red. Officials are worried that the cold weather will push everyone inside and that there is going to be large gatherings for thanksgiving and that that is going to make all of this even worse. Thank you. This morning were hearing from a bay area man who volunteered for Pfizers Covid vaccine trial. Kate larsen spoke with the man who now believes hes immune. My arm was a little sore. Reporter that was in september after Daniel Horowitz received his first injection in the covid19 vaccine trial. I met the criteria. Im over 65 and in good health. Reporter the trial is double blinded. So neither he or the researchers know if he received the vaccine or placebo. I got a little achy in my muscles. It went away after that day. I think i had a real sideeffect. He decided to get an Antibody Test to check for immunity outside of the trial. Which came back positive. You have a lot of antibodies. She was thrilled. I started crying. I said we are out of this. Its going to be over. Its going to be okay. Reporter he is now confident he received the vaccine and not a placebo. Is that an accurate assumption . Its one of several explanations. Reporter dr. George rutherford is not part of the pfizer trial. He could have had covid asymptomatic as well and been in the placebo group. Reporter pfizer said the initial results indicate the vaccine could be 90 effective and if that data holds it means it would be almost as effective as the measles vaccine. What do you say to people that dont believe in the safety of the vaccine . I am going to get it the first day i can get it. I know a lot about this stuff. It has been proven safe in trials, then take a little risk and be brave. Ive been in touch with pfizer in new york today, theyre already manufacturing the vaccine so that it is ready to ship when and if the fda grants emergency use authorization.
