Some even getting creative and expanding their services in ways never seen before. Good evening, thank you for joining us. Im dion lim. We begin with a look at those surging cases. California officially topped 1 million diagnosed coronavirus cases today. The state reported more than 9,800 new cases, one of the largest single day case counts weve seen since august. A 14day Positivity Rate is at 4. 2 . It was 4 yesterday. That is an indicator of the transmission of the virus. And since the beginning of the pandemic, the bay area has now seen a total of 133,456 confirmed cases. Now, because of this growth in cases, much of the bay area is pivoting once again tonight, when it comes to eating out. But health and the economy are key to our efforts to build a better bay area. Indoor dining has shut down in San Francisco, and more city also follow suit next week. Reporter Cornell Bernard shows us while some restaurants are adjusting, other s think they wont survive another round of restrictions. Reporter theres an echo of construction in hayes valley. Its where pierre is busy building this parklet, the same type of structure hes been building in months. We intend to get it done by the end of the day. A lot of people are struggling now. We need to get this up and running. Reporter its for david bass, owner of sugar lounge, who plans to reopen serving food outdoors after a ninemonth closure. Hopefully thats going to give us a little bit of what we used to have. Reporter chefs here at this restaurant are cooking up tasty dishes for outdoor diners. The Indoor Dining room is now offlimits. Its not as hard to say goodbye to the Indoor Dining. Its more important to make sure everyone is safe. Reporter Health Officers believe Indoor Dining is too ri risky. We need our people to be safe and healthy out there. So i think theyre smart for closing it up. Reporter Health Officials say covid case rates have doubled in the last ten days and are still rising. Because of that, new restrictions start tuesday. Gyms must reduce capacity to 10 . A 50 limit at malls. And restaurants must stop serving customers indoors. The Health Director says weve got a lot of people. Reporter he says his tap room and kichen in san rafael cant survive more restrictions. Were to the going to keep it open. We dont have any togo, only outside seating. But the weather is not going to help out at all. Reporter hes hopeful he can reopen some day. Cornell bernard, abc7 news. Santa clara county and Contra Costa County are also bringing an end to Indoor Dining tuesday. Contra costa is ordering Fitness Centers to halt indoor operations. Santa clara county which is currently in the orange tier expects to be bumped to the red tier. It is keeping gyms open but only at 10 capacity. Business owners facing new restrictions less than two weeks before thanksgiving are being faced with quite a challenge. How to stay afloat, yet still keep customers safe. Reporter j. R. We decided to offer this, and a lot of what we heard from people last week was that they felt a lot safer, and that is one of their main motivators for coming in. Reporter and while it is only on certain nights, its something that will likely help those families who are doing all they can to still make some good old holiday memories. No visiting families, so its pretty sad, but we try to, you know, like save us and save other people, as well. I know theres a lot of restrictions, but i think the community is going to make sure its meaningful this time. Over in the east bay, a protest in downtown walnut creek turned violent, with protestors clashing with counter protestors. Organizers called it a no justice, no peace protest. We have reached out to police to see if any arrests have been made. Supporters of President Trump rallied in washington, d. C. Today, protesting the results of the election, and claiming it had been stolen from the president. Usa usa you can hear it, the cheers and chants that serenaded the president s motorcade as he drove down pennsylvania avenue headed to another golf outing. President trump waved and smiled at his supporters, estimated to be in the thousands. He has not conceded the election. The mostly maskless crowd then descended on the steps of the u. S. Supreme court, where many feel the election would somehow be overturned there. There were counterprotestors and a few scuffles between the groups. Police say ten people were arrested. While the socalled million maga march took over the capitol today, a group of california Trump Supporters rallied in sacramento to stop the steal, in their words, echoing the president s claims of voter fraud. Dan knnoyes was there to see th rally break out in violence. Reporter this is what happened when the talking stopped, when the proud boys squared off against antifa and other protestors. This is how the day started. Just over 30 of californians voted for President Trump in this election. And hundreds rallied at the capitol. They believe President Trumps claims that the election was marred by voter fraud and calling for a national recount. Four more years four more years the reality is, we have had people trying to steal our nation out from under us for decades. California used to be a nice place. Reporter the rally drew a large asianamerican contingent and people from across the state. This trump supporter was very critical of the media and declined to give his name. Im here to support my president and the constitution. Im here to support every americans right to vote. Reporter on stage and scattered in the crowd, i found members of the proud boys. A hate group according to the southern poverty law center. 56 the rally began, people with faces covered arrived. Antifa twitter accounts called for a response to the rally. Sacramento police and chp on horses and in riot gear kept the opposite sides apart for most of the day. Is this is is really a phased setup now. You have the rally over there, thats still going on. The district released a statement saying School Consolidation is an extremely difficult process for any community. We know this situation is very challenging and appreciate the commitment of our community to get through this together. The boards decision will be released on thursday. Completion of San Franciscos central subway project has been delayed again. This time, muni is blaming the pandemic for the setback. Construction wont be finished until spring of 2022 at the earliest. The setback was caused by construction workers stricken with covid19, quarantines, and problems getting Construction Materials during the pandemic. The 1. 6 billion subway project has been delayed multiple times, and tens of millions of dollars in cost overruns have happened. The more than 1. 5 million extension to the metro line was originally supposed to open last year. Diwali celebrations are looking a little different this year because of the coronavirus.
