Nearly every state and territory u. S. Is seeing a surge in coronavirus cases and california is no exception. Our state came close to the record high number of new cases today. Bear in mind, the record was set this past sunday. Liz kreutz joins us with the latest. Things continue to be not so great in california. San francisco, marin and san mateo did not move into the purple tier today, overall the numbers everywhere continue to go up and another number on the rise hospitalizations. With thanksgiving two days away, californias covid19 cases are not showing any signs of slowing down. The 14day Positivity Rate is now 5. 6 , a 51 increase from two weeks ago on november 10th when it was 3. 7 . At that point, there were roughly 7,000 cases a day. Today, there is more than 15,000. Hospitalizations have increased since then, too, by a whopping 81 . Statewide i dont believe weve ever seen as many hospital admissions increased like we did just in the past 24 hours. Reporter this message critical ahead of the holiday season. Today californias health and Human Services secretary dr. Mark galley again desperately urged people to reconsider their thanksgiving plans. Never did i think id get to be a weather forecaster or weather person but here you go. Reporter the only good news, San Francisco, marin and san mateo counties did not move into the lowest purple tier. Dr. Galley said it doesnt mean it wont happen soon and take a look at this map, not a single california county remains in the yellow tier meaning the most minimal spread. For most counties, transmission remains wide spread. The truth is that even those activities which felt low risk, felt safer a month ago, today are higher risk than many of us realize. Reporter while cases are going up across the state, there are some areas hit harder than others when you compare the bay area to los angeles county, the difference is striking. L. A. Has a sevenday Positivity Rate of 6. 6 , significantly higher than most of the bay area. In los angeles because of unique and broad scale characteristics of how our communities are set up, you see a perfect sort of storm of where transmission can occur. Reporter and dr. Galley said household transmission there in l. A. Is a big factor and they also saw a spike in cases from celebrations following the dodgers and lakers wins. Another reminder that these gatherings can and do lead to increased transmission and we need to be vigilant this thanksgiving, ama. Liz, with these spikes, is there any sense another statewide lockdown could be coming . Is that being considered . Thats something dr. Galley was asked about today and made it sound like at the moment that is not something being considered. He said they are trying to be march targ more targeted by allowing specific counties to set guidelines and activities like indoor, Outdoor Dining considered to be high risk and allowing activities at lower risk to continue. Thats where things stand now. Well see if the cases continue to go up. Who knows. Thanks, liz. The state has more than 1. 1 million total diagnosed cases in coronavirus. We include santa cruz county. The yellow line representing the rolling average that is rising and approaching local levels. All but three are in the states most restrictive purple tier. San francisco says it is teetering on the brink of the most restrictive tier. Abc 7 News Reporter melanie woodro explains what would change. Reporter San Francisco Health Officials say were at a critical moment, covid19 cases and hospitalizations are up. Reporter director of the San Francisco office of economic and work force development, joaquin torrez. If and when that happens, it city will be required to rollback or reduce capacity of several activities within 24 hours. This will require us to stop the indoor operations at houses of worship, movie theaters, museums, zoos, aquariums, gyms, and fitness centers. Reporter for the limited stayathome order, torrez says all nonessential businesses will have to shut down at 10 0 ocho p. 0 p. M. And people will be prohibited from gathering after 10 0 0 p. M. A. s office was one of the first to uncover the scheme where 21 inmates including these eight at a redwood city facility were charged for defrauding the state out of 250,000 worth of Unemployment Benefits. We figured its probably in some other county jails, too. To find out its a theft of hundreds of millions going throughout the state prison to death row even that have to stop that. Reporter how does it stop . And why didnt the state catch this . The reason stems from the lack of a crossexamining system that would ensure data is matched against edd claims. We need to turn off the speck et. Right now there is no cross matching between the data like its being done in 35 other states. Reporter an issue nine district attorneys across the state voiced in a letter to the governor requesting health on the you aurgent matter. It must be a priority. We need to look why were not cross referencing, if there is a statute that prevents it from cross referencing, clearly, that has to be checkanged. Reporter necessary to help hundreds of thousands of people like brittany and ben. All of my money on that card, i cant even go get food. I havent been able to pay octobers rent because of that. Reporter who need this money to survive. Meanwhile, the response from the edd has been consistently criticized as slow and nonex t nonexiste nonexistent. People that are every day servants in the mids trt of cri are the true heroes, always have been. San Francisco Police provided new details this afternoon about a shooting by a last week.
