You are watching abc seven news at 11 i am going to get right to Spencer Christian who is tracking hilary for us tonight. We have been watching it closely all night. Looking at your graphics, it did week into a category one. Wind intensity has dropped as it goes farther north it is getting a little weaker. In terms of wind intensity. The rainfall potential is still as great as it was. For folks in Southern California. And for the northwestern baja peninsula. Here it is moving up along the western coast of Baja California. It is likely to make landfall in northwestern baja before it hit Southern California around 5 a. M. Tomorrow as a category one hurricane but it will begin quickly as it moves through Southern California during the day tomorrow and into the afternoon hours. It may maintain that strength until it crosses over the state border between california and west central nevada tomorrow afternoon. It will continue dumping huge portions of rain all over a third of the state of california, western arizona, the southern two thirds of nevada. The hardest hit areas five to 7 inches of rain. Three to 5 inches generally in the areas affected. Look at its reach. The rainfall will reach all the way up into Southern Idaho by monday. We will keep tracking this for you and have more on the storm on our local weather in a few minutes. Governor newsom declared a state of emergency earlier today and people are heating the warnings and evacuating. There are a lot of resources ready to respond. Roughly 7500 people from various state agencies ranging from the National Guard to rescue teams have been deployed. Cal fire is on standby as well with hundreds of engines in position already. Besides fighting fires they have teams that do swift water rescues and search urban areas. Most of the rain is expected to arrive sunday and monday and could produce flooding and mudslides particularly in areas with burn scars. Help is already on the way tonight to Southern California, a special task force loaded up this afternoon in the east bay and rolled out. Just checking the motors and boats. Checking all of the equipment to confirm we have everything and nothing is broken. And that we are actually operational. This team knows how to go. It has been deployed to hurricanes throughout the country. Hurricane harvey in texas, irma in florida, and north carolina. We typically have to handle the stuff afterwards. Can low as with contra costa. People stranded inside buildings, high flooding. It collects team is heading in land to Riverside County expecting massive rainfall. We have a few that have military service. The success of the program has been taken national but there is still work to be done. We are only 6 of the population and account for more than 50 of the homicides each year. If we cannot have something specifically focused on that we are in trouble. In oakland abc7news. San francisco hosted its first ever asian and latino cookout. Abc7news was at that free event at pier 30 which brought two major communities together in a celebration of culture and food. Food trucks, vendors, local artisans and mariachi bands were part of it. The festival also includes a carnival, a low rider car show and an asian night market. The asian and latino cookout is organized and hosted by two local nonprofits. In case you missed and exciting laser and lights show is taking place at the showboat space and Science Center tonight. The queens of pop showcase takes taylor swifts biggest hits and brings them to life in a dazzling laser light spectacular. Minimal impact. But just south of us they will see some rain. Basically for Monterey County east and southward. That is where the heavier rain will fall and possibly produce flooding.
