And now we turn to our coverage of the final farewell for Dianne Feinstein. Today, the entire nation paying tribute at a private Memorial Service outside San Francisco city hall where she actually began her political career. Abc seven News Reporter cornell bernard is live at San Francisco city hall with details. Cornell christine and larry, a very emotional day, but a fitting farewell to Dianne Feinstein. It all began here at city hall. Many many years ago. And it was a very hot day under the blazing sun. But that did not stop accolades from the Vice President. Even the blue angels. She showed us a world where women lead, where we lift each other up so that girls like me could follow in her footsteps. She showed us strength and grace , courage and collaboration in 1500 invited guests, including 30 members of congress, attended the private service outside San Francisco city hall, where feinstein began her political career. As the program interrupted several times with flyovers by the blue angels practicing for fleet week. Ironic ali, an event founded by feinstein. Thank you, mayor feinstein, for bringing the blue angels to San Francisco. In 1981. In an audio message, President Joe Biden praising feinsteins longtime career, she turned passion into purpose to lead the fight to ban assault weapons, to protect our civil liberties, to strengthen our National Security , safeguard our environment and so much more. Dianne, when the women of america have come a long way, our country has come a long way. And you helped move the ball forward and our nation salutes you. Dianne new york senator Chuck Schumer paying tribute to his longtime colleague. Now, there are many adjectives that rightly describe Dianne Feinstein, a strong, unflappable, winning, fierce, practical, earnest. But one quality above all stands out in my mind and will forever set dianne apart. Heart integrity. Nancy pelosi is sharing this advice she once got from feinstein. But the most constant advice i ever got from her again and again was nancy, you dont always have to be the one going out on the attack. Let some other people do that from time to time. Why dont you do that . No. Whoa songs and prayers from feinsteins jewish faith. Mayor, breathe. Thanking feinstein for being a leader for San Francisco and the nation. And like the old saying goes , you only live once. But if you do it right, once is enough. Dianne feinstein did it right. She was our mayor, our champion. She was the leader of our band. Yeah and speaking of bands, mayor breed says she played french horn growing up in the Ben Franklin Middle School band here in San Francisco. She said that was the band that would play for feinstein events all over the city for several years. She said feinstein was a big fan of their music and she even played for their even paid for their uniform sweaters. Pretty cool. Live in San Francisco, cornell bernard, abc seven news. Cornell, before you go, nancy pelosi talked about how senator feinstein cultivated people and relationships and thats actually something she did even with the plans for this service. Can you explain more on that . Yeah yeah. City hall spokesman people tell us that it was feinsteins wish that any staffer over the past 30 plus years who had worked for her have a place at her memorial today. And if they wanted to come and as a result, there was an entire section of former employees of Dianne Feinstein. There was a lot of people there. So not a bad tribute to a former boss, right . Yeah. Touching cornell, thank you. Now, the last speaker of todays memorial was Dianne Feinsteins granddaughter, eileen mariano. Yeah, she reflected on some of the life lessons and advice she got from her grandma. She taught me lessons that i will carry with me forever, work. Work to your long suit. She would say, do something that you can do for your entire life, something that energized you, something that inspires you, and something that makes the world a better place for the people who live in it. Boy did my grandmother do that. Earn your spurs, she said. You have to work hard, put in the hours and work your way up. A great message. A big crowd turned out to honor senator feinstein today and what was initially supposed to be a public memorial. That service in front of city hall became a private one because of security concerns. He says he learned a hard lesson. Thanks to feinstein. My wife said to diana, i said, i understand you helped my husband grow up. Yes, i did. And he certainly needed it. Griffin attended todays Memorial Service. A nice remembrance, a celebration of life. Im sad that these things couldnt have been said for dianne while she was still living. She needed her flowers. Then she was a martyr to the cause. A martyr to duty, a martyr to the democratic party. Oakland mayor shengtao was one of the many local leaders who turned out. Were held up on the shoulders of senator feinstein. You know, as a young politician and myself as a young woman, you know, it is through the leadership of senator feinstein that we are able to be here today. San francisco da Brooke Jenkins says she also was inspired by senator feinsteins legacy. I took away that we women have to lead. We have to be at the table. We have to continue to fight hard and difficult fights. Longtime San FranciscoCommunity LeaderFlorence Fang wanted to thank the senator for showing compassion and friendship. When fangs late husband passed away. But is she come to me . She says. Florence, who said, a strong woman, dont cry. I lend you my strong shoulder. Congressman John Garamendi says he has so much to remember about senator feinstein. About 40 years of memories with this woman and our family. So a lot, a lot to there were so many people who had hoped to attend the senators service, but were unable to not knowing, had been changed to an invitation only event due to security concerns. I think its disappointing because there are a lot of people in San Francisco who are so proud of her and proud that shes from this area. I heard that shes one of the best politicians thats come out of california. So wed love to be able to celebrate her, but i understand the security concern. And back here live, we saw so many leaders today, senator barbara boxer, former governor jerry brown, countless Community Leaders. Everyone said it was an honor to remember a woman who has impacted so many lives. Were live in San Francisco, suzannephan, abc seven news. Suzanne, thank you. Three of the four uh there, the most powerful were women. That is that shows the transition. You wouldnt have seen that when Dianne Feinstein started and there was the visual of it. And yes, its a change city. Its a changed nation. But she helped change it in a good way. Decades of change in one shot that we saw right there in the San Francisco in the country, say farewell to a trailblazer and an icon. We put together a look at some of the sights and sounds from todays memorial. We go to break with a look at the life and legacy of Dianne Feinstein. He joins us live from walnut creek with the latest on sir. And kristen, were learning that the white house and Governors Office are both now getting involved, trying to bring this strike to an end. Kaiser maintains that progress is being made, but if you talk to the employees out here on the picket line, they say they want more transparent tsay at the bargaining table. California assemblyman timothy greyson joined the picket line as kaiser employees took to the streets of walnut creek. This has been going on for a very long time. I sent a letter in asking, requesting kaiser to negotiate in good faith to hear the voices of their workers. Day two of this planned three day strike comes as negotiations failed earlier this week. Priscilla offermann is part of the employee bargaining team. Weve been bargaining since april. Okay when we decided to give our ten day strike notice, thats when bargaining actually started happening. So you cant cram in an actual full bargaining session in ten days. Kaiser permanente declined to be interviewed, but in an email to abc7 news, kaiser claims that tentative agreements have been reached on wages and benefits and that it met the unions demand to hire 10,000 employees. But employees refute those claims because they keep throwing out these numbers that they apparently theyve already reached the 10,000 new employees. Who are these employees . Because when you walk into those facilities you are not seeing new faces at all. The union says kaisers offer to raise the minimum wage to 23 an hour falls short of the 25 an hour. They want. What do we want . Sick days. When do we want it . Now. Also on the picket line were City Council Members from nearby cities of concord and san ramon. If they feel that they are short staffed, theyre not able to treat their patients in a timely manner and get the turnaround that they need. Theyre understaffed. If theyre not willing to talk and be transparent about our situation, then what does that tell you about the company that were working for . The union and those who backed them are also demanding more transparency around kaisers financial statements. Part of it is being honest and forthright, and thats to be determined by what they provide in documentation. Now we did get a new email from kaiser, about 45 minutes ago. In it, it says, out of respect for the bargaining pr
