People died and three others were injured after a vehicle struck a bus shelter. This happened in San Franciscos west portal neighborhood. Weve learned one of the People Killed in the collision was a child. Abc seven News Reporter cornell bernard was at the scene and spoke to investigators. Well, i can tell you what happened was a real tragedy. Mayor london breed, speaking at the scene of a horrific crash at a bus stop on uloa street and lenox way car going eastbound on yola, uh struck a bus shelter which had four people, two adults and two children. The fire chief says two people were killed, an adult and a child. Obviously, there are multiple calls to 911, so police and fire worked together to treat all the victims, to assess and treat them. And unfortunately, two were really, really critically injured and there was no hope for them. Three people were taken to the hospital, including the driver of this suv, which struck the bus shelter. At this point, its unclear how the collision happened. We dont know if the driver had a medical emergency. That is all under investigation. The impact of the crash was so intense it could be heard a half block away. We heard a really loud crash and i thought it was two trains colliding, and then a bunch of people in the restaurant went out and looked and said not to go out there because it was, really gory. The crash happening just feet from the entrance of the muni west portal station, which was busy on saturday afternoon. We have a lot of shaken up people, including one of our muni drivers and other people who who saw this situation and saw people trying to save their lives. The mayor and police would not confirm if the two victims, the adult and child, were related. The mayor did say that counselors from the citys Behavioral Health department will be in this neighborhood speaking with folks who may have experienced trauma in San Francisco cornell, bernard, abc seven news. Two people were arrested following a shooting on interstate 780. Benicia police say they tried to pull over a car last night when they received an alert from their automated license plate readers it was involved in a robbery. Thats when officers say two suspects started shooting and police fired back the two suspects are now in custody. The freeway was shut down for several hours while police investigated. No one was injured in that incident. Authorities have identified the man who drowned yesterday near Encinal Beach in alameda. They say he was 32 years old and from the Central Valley town of atwater. The man was seen struggling in the water at around 430 yesterday afternoon. The alameda Fire Departments divers and swimmers attempted to rescue the man, but were unable to get to him before he went under. His body was recovered about two hours later. A memorial in San Francisco today honors the victims of the atlanta spa shootings. Three years ago today, eight people were killed. Six were of asian descent at japantowns hotel, kabuki. They held musical performances, Mental Health speakers and stories from activists. This journey of antiasian hate crime is nothing new. But now we have so many more Asian Americans in this country and the city and so the intention is that we can come together, stand together, fight together, and thrive together for a country that we truly belong in. The north face store in union square will soon be shuttering its doors for good, marking the end of an era. The outdoor retailer, which traces its origins to San Franciscos north end, has no other stores in San Francisco. The company was purchased by the Vf Corporation in 2000, which owns other brands like timberland and dickies. The company has declined to state a reason as to why the store is closing. The alum creek Alum Rock UnionSchool District board voted to end her employment in a closed session on thursday night. Shes held the position since 2014, and the board voted to extend her contract in 2019. The board president said the decision to fire her was made after much consideration and deliberation. Local groups rallying to put an end to homelessness. Tiny village spirit. We build tiny house villages for homeless people. Currently, were doing it for youth. Were doing a 100 homes for 100 youth. The nonprofit has also built a 25 home village in oakland, where theyre cultivating community and providing resources. A lot of like, supportive programs into it. We put art all over everything. We try to make it very beautiful, like a place that they would want to live. Its really exciting to see things that are like manifesting in like real time, and its happening, and there are young people who are being housed and they have a Community Village and they have shared spaces and they have garden areas, and its healthy and its wholesome, and they just have new life. Moni law is an activist and member of the way church in berkeley, joining about a dozen groups, putting pressure on politicians for better policy and funding for Homeless Support Services and solutions. I think this is tying together what people in the Community Know on the ground is people that work with the unhoused and the legislators who are up in their offices who may not see whats happening. And when it comes to being on the ground, Oneill Fernandez knows the streets well. Im from the unhoused community, you know, im lucky enough. Me and my wife and my 20 month old got out of a tent two months before she was born. So im one to speak from the experience of myself. Hes part of sos richmond, a nonprofit made up by staff who were previously unhoused, serving some of the communitys most vulnerable. And hes hopeful his story can make an impact. Ive had to struggle, so i want to be here to get that voice, you know, i am one of those voices. You know, everybody i brought with me from our crew is a part of those voices. Caltrans says work is going well to repave the southbound lanes of 680 from the 580 junction down to koopman road. Thats about nine miles of roadway. That freeway closure might have kept a few people from getting to a big Saint PatricksDay Celebration in the east bay. Actually this is the first time weve been here, but its really fun though were really enjoying it. Randy hernandez and her friends were among the thousands who attended food, rides and celebrating irish culture. We like the dancing that they were doing. The famous dances, that i seen. The irish dancers. Yeah there you go. The irish dancing. There was a band over there playing u2 music, usually irish music. So its irish beers. Patrick hilliard says he makes it out every year. He and his family were dressed in green, which some say brings good luck. Its been a great a lot of great vibe out here. A lot of people really dressed up festive. Its really they do a good job there was lots of traffic getting into dublin, but event organizers say the southbound closure of i680 from the 580 interchange to sunol didnt seem to have much impact. Caltrans says all entrances to dublin from 680 and 580 will be open all weekend, so no need to miss all the events on saturday and sunday, especially that iconic Saint Patricks day parade on sunday. Part of the reason i moved to dublin was because of the name i fell in love with the city when i saw the shamrocks on the street signs. Sean day says hes a proud irish american. Hes stayed till the end for the grand finale, a 200 drone light show. I know they probably couldnt do fireworks, so drone festival is great. Anser hassan abc seven news. San francisco celebrated Saint Patricks day today with a parade downtown. The city celebrated its 173rd annual Saint Patricks day parade in celebration. Crowds of people wearing green and shamrocks filled the streets. Theres mayor breed as the parade went from market and second all the way to civic center plaza, and there was plenty of green to go around. You know, when it started, 173 years ago, im pretty sure it was all about just, you know, the irish marching. But now we have everybody. We have all the heritages marching with us. We got the kids in the school marching with us. We got all the civic, organizations. We got the union. This thing is huge. And that was the theme of the day unity. Well, i mean, this is what were all about. Family togetherness. I mean, look at all the people. Its a great day and a Beautiful Day. Saint patricks day brings us together. That it did. Everyone in the city came together with just an extra sprinkling of luck. In new york city had an estimated 2 Million People show up for its Saint Patricks day parade. Billed as the oldest and largest saint pattys day parade around this years didnt disappoint. You can see that there. It marked the 262nd running of the legendary parade. The avenue was filled to the brim with bagpipers, nypd officers in green berets, irish flags and cloggers. Many celebrated the crowds and attendees in the wake of recent subway violence in the city. Here in the bay area, it was a great day for a parade or to head to the beach. Look at that. Quite a few people took advantage of the sunshine and the comfortable temperatures and soaked it in at crown beach in alameda. Francis lawson is here with the weather. Today was a perfect day. Really. I dont remember the last time we had such a nice day in the city. I walked around and enjoyed it before work. Hows tomorrow looking . Tomorrow is going to be nice, but at the beaches were going to see some more fog and some low clouds. In fact, were starting to see some of it now and well start off with live doppler seven. The satellite radar image. So over the last few days we had High Pressure keep all the clouds at bay. And that is starting to weaken. And thats why most temperatures, especially at the beaches and at the coast, will be a little bit cooler. You see some of those low clouds creeping in from that coast there into San Francisco, where its currently 55 degrees. Its still looking gorgeous outside tonight, though. Oakland and hayward at 56 degrees. Also san jose, san mateo, 54, and half moon bay, one of the cooler spots at 50 degrees. Ill show you another live shot. So in parts of the north bay, were already dropping into the 40s right now, like petaluma, 48 low 50s in napa, fairfield 53, concord 55, livermore 52 degrees. So how we are 24 hours ago to now, were generally cooler for the most part in many areas. And thats because the sea breeze will pick up, and thats what will make temperatures cool down a bit tomorrow too. And the winds arent that bad, though. Theyre calm maybe ten Miles Per Hour right now at bodega bay, and they definitely have lightened up in San Francisco. So as we look from the east bay, heres what you can expect for the headlines. Tomorrow morning. Well see some low clouds and some patchy fog spilling into the bay. But for Saint Patricks day, its going to be sunny and then we will see temperatures cooler at the coast especially, and then get ready for tuesday. Thats when spring starts. Its looking dry through midweek, and then were tracking a chance of rain that heads our way towards the end of the workweek. And ill show you some of the models that forecast the rain coming in for next weekend. So tomorrow morning, what youll notice is a bit different. We start to see more cloud cover all along the coast and spilling into the bay. And thats whats going to help cool things down. The winds are also going to be coming from the northwest, but by the afternoon plenty of sunshine, so temperatures will still be above average just not quite as warm. Lows tonight. Generally in the 40s to near 50 degrees. Well see 50 in oakland and well see some mid 40s in the north bay. And then for tomorrow with the sunshine, temperatures will generally be in the mid 60s to even some low 70s out there. Livermore 73 and also fremont 71 San Francisco coming down to 65. San jose 73 with plenty of sunshine. Really comfortable in the north bay. Some low 70s there too. So heres one of the forecast animation models that starts to show increasing cloud storage. The end of the week generally dry on friday with a chance increasing but looking wet on saturday and sunday. This is light rain though, so nothing too much to worry about on our storm impact scale. Its a level one, so heres the accuweather seven day forecast. Some fog, a little bit cooler for most everyone tomorrow. Some spots might be a touch warmer by a degree or two. The temperatures rebound on monday. Spring starts tuesday, then partly cloudy on wednesday. Notice we start to cool down, bringing us a chance of rain on friday and definitely expecting some more light rain saturday and sunday. But its going to be light, so enjoy this dry weather oh my gosh, i was so relieved to have all that sunshine and warmth. It was a wonderful today.
