Certainly it is cool out there. You want that jacket . Youll have temperatures mainly starting out in the 40s for our current temperatures. But you look at the day planner today, it is nothing but sunshine. So you need that jacket. You need the sunglasses. We will have those temperatures in the 50s along the coast, but 70s around the bay shoreline and inland. By the way, your sunset now at 8 p. M. Developing news in the east bay that could impact your morning commute. Emergency crews are blocking off the area around a big fire that burned overnight. This is all happening in downtown concord on Sunset Avenue and east street near the concord bart station. Firefighters say it doesnt look like anyone was inside the commercial building when that fire broke out late last night. Abc seven News Reporter lena howland just got there, so lena, do you see any flames . Reggie. No flames at this hour. And the good news is, is that this fire does appear to be out. As you can see right here behind me, we are still seeing quite a few contra costa fire crews on scene. Still working to mop up any hot spots and just monitor this situation. I want to go now to some video taken from the scene overnight. This dramatic this video shows the moment part of the building collapsed. Just missing fire crews. Intense flames could be seen coming from this large commercial building. At times, even shooting out of the windows. This quickly grew to a two alarm fire. Contra costa fire crews. Crews say that their crews were on scene for more than two, and a half hours before they were able to put it out. Its unclear what caused the fire in the first place. Fire crews say the building was vacant at the time. No injuries were reported. Now several streets are closed in the perimeter around this fire. But the biggest impact were told, will be to the concord bart station because. Because the bart parking lot on park street is closed because of this fire. So again, there are several streets right now closed around the perimeter of this fire. But the main one that youre going to want to keep in mind is the closure of that bart parking lot on park street. That means if you are taking bart today, youre going to want to have to choose another bart station. The closest the closest ones are in North Concord. Martinez, as well as pleasant hill. Now, fire Officials Say to expect these closures to stay in place throughout the day. So youre going to want to have to give yourself a few extra minutes of travel time. Officers ordered the crowd there to disperse. That protest formed yesterday morning and the University Said students are not allowed to camp on campus overnight. Police are using riot shields and pepper spray as they move in on a new encampment at virginia commonwealth university. Officers tore down the camp last night, the University Says the protest was violent and violated policies, with final exams about to begin at new yorks Columbia University, students forced their way into a building overnight and could be seen barricading themselves inside. The school is suspending students who refuse to leave, and just before 4 a. M, administrators announced they are restricting campus access to students and essential staff. Cornell university is also suspending students who refuse to move their protests to another location. These repulsive scare tactics mean nothing compared to the deaths of over 34,000 palestinians. Protesters are demanding their universities divest from weapons manufacturers, companies and other businesses that support israel and many are also calling for a permanent cease fire in the israelhamas war. U. S. Officials are asking for a temporary pause in the fighting. The only thing standing between the people of gaza and a cease fire is hamas. Secretary of state Antony Blinken says israels latest proposal for a temporary cease fire to release hamas hostages is generous. Now, that man believes some people may have been living in units there. The facility owner hasnt commented, and there is no official cause yet. Capitola will give an update tonight on what its iconic pier might look like when it reopens this fall. Its holding a town hall meeting tonight. A bad storm damaged the wharf in january last year. The city recently made the decision to demolish two buildings that housed a restaurant and a bait and tackle shop. The temporary plan now is to reopen this fall with space for fishing and boat rental services, restrooms and benches. Long term plans are still being finalized, and a city proposal could transform San Franciscos fishermen. Fishermans wharf, as we know it, the goal is to bring in Better Business and experiences. The plans include a wholesale seafood market, an area to see workers processing fish and a food hall. And we could even be seeing new places to visit, like an event center, public spaces, a winery, brewery, distillery and an experimental museum. It could be a Great Attraction for here, especially since these past few years its been getting a little sparse due to people going out of business. The plan will be brought to the Fishermans WharfAdvisory Committee tomorrow. If the board of supervisors ultimately approves the project, the group could finalize design and construction in 5 to 6 years. New developments in a story were tracking in San Franciscos west portal neighborhood, supporters of a plan to redesign a busy intersection after a crash killed an entire family are now worried safety improvements may never happen. Gloria comes after the changes were put on hold late last week. Thats right, reggie, you might have missed it over the weekend, but plans to redesign the area around the intersection of yolo street and west portal avenue were put on hold after local residents and businesses raised concerns. They are worried that the effort to make more space for bikers and pedestrians near west portal station will hurt access to local shops, and that prompted supervisor myrna melgar to create a committee to look into possible changes and also figure out the best way forward. Melgars office says the committee will come to a consensus that works for everyone. But according to the chronicle, some supporters of the changes are voicing their own concerns that the committee is just an attempt to delay or even stop the project altogether. Theyre pushing for faster action, and the changes that were already proposed. Melgar told the chronicle that she hopes a revised plan will go up for a vote at the board of supervisors this summer, and Ribbon Cutting on a redesigned area could happen as soon as september, so of course well stay on top of the story for you, gloria.
