And good morning to the eight of you. Only on this monday, may 6th. Well, lets check on that forecast. Yeah its going to be a nice week ahead. We have a lot of sunshine in store today and as we head later into the week, by thursday and friday, its going to turn hot across the region. We have clear skies out there, but underneath those clear skies early on we do have some cold morning temperatures. 30 from ukiah to cloverdale, napa at 38. Danville at 39. Other areas closer to the bay shoreline. Were in the low and mid 40s. So certainly that winter jacket, your best friend, where you have those numbers starting out in the 30s first thing this morning. But the big headline for the week ahead summerlike days lie ahead on the seven day forecast. A lot of sunshine this week and we have a warming trend each afternoon. Will get warmer and warmer. Say, Anthony Blinken is heading to the bay area today. Hes coming to San Francisco for a big Cybersecurity Conference at Moscone Center. Abc7 News Reporter Gloria Rodriguez joins us live. Gloria, thousands of people expected, which means it could be a boost to businesses downtown. It could. Reggie, more than 40,000 people are expected here in San Francisco this week for the rsa Cybersecurity Conference. And it comes as the governor says that californias tourism is at an all time high. The governor announces yesterday, while he was announcing data from the Golden Gate Bridge showing that tourists spent more money than they ever have in california last year. But businesses in San Franciscos Fishermans Wharf are skeptical. I mean, back in 2016, this place was mobbed on the weekends. I mean, there was a line going down the stairs. We dont see that at all on even on a saturday night. And visit california says travel spending reached just over 150 billion across the state in 2023. But that number does not factor in inflation when adjusted for inflation. Travel spending in 2023 was down 14 compared to before the pandemic. Gloria, thank you. And the south bay police are looking for the person who stabbed two people less than an hour after Cinco De Mayo celebrations wrapped up in san jose. Police say a man is in Critical Condition and the second victim is a juvenile whose injuries are nonlife threatening. It happened last night near emma prusch farm. Residents call it disappointing. Im not surprised. Have you seen the area . Ive worked here or ive lived here since maybe since like 2012, i reckon. And you know, ive been working here and its been getting worse and worse. You know, i can understand that this is, you know, a damper, but, you know, shoot. I mean, just keep looking. Moving forward, i guess authorities havent said whether the violence had any connection to the Cinco De Mayo festivities. Oakland police say a mass shooting at a Juneteenth Celebration near lake merritt back in 2020 1st may be connected to another homicide that happened more than a year earlier. Deshawn rhodes died in the june 2021 shooting on lakeshore avenue, five men and two women were also hurt. Investigators now say the people responsible for that shooting are behind another killing. A year earlier, henry texada was shot and killed in east oakland in april of 2020. Police say the group used a nissan suv rented in nevada as the getaway vehicle. Police are asking for your help to identify the suspects. So far this year, crime is down in nearly every neighborhood in San Francisco, but according to analysis from the chronicle, one neighborhood saw the opposite. In noe valley, crime was up 15 from january to april compared to the same time last year. There were increases in burglaries and larceny theft, including car break ins, which made up more than half of the reported crimes. New developments in a story of racism we first told you about last week, a black man in San Francisco found a doll with a noose around its neck on his doorstep, and now he says, its happened again. Dog walker Terry Williams first discovered the doll in a plastic bag at his alamo square home the morning of april 26th. It was with a piece of paper with dozens of slurs and racist imagery. So bad that we cant show it to you on tv. Sfpd says its investigating this as a possible hate crime. Yesterday terry woke up to another bag. This one had a toy grenade and threats. If he didnt leave his alamo square neighborhood, they really targeted me. Now, like i need to really like this is reaching another level. They had another picture of me and then they had it a detail at the at the bottom. What they going to do . Like like were were coming for you. Neighbors have since banded together to raise money for terry so he can install new security cameras and move his elderly parents into a temporary home. Theyre disappointed that this happened again. Despite their calls to police last week, and theyre asking Community Leaders to do more. Were just really hopeful that moving forward, they can be more transparent and let us know whats going on and what their, you know, the actions that theyre taking to find who did this. It makes me wonder, like, are we really protected around here . Terry has been in contact with president of the San Francisco chapter of the naacp, amos brown. Supervisor dean preston tells abc seven news tracking the case. Hes tracking the case closely with the police chief and local police captain. He calls the incidents vile harassment and intimidation, and that this would not be tolerated. The president ial election is just six months away. A new abc news ipsos poll shows donald trump and President Biden are neck and neck. Trump has a slight edge at 46 over President Biden at 44. And for personal favorability, mr. Biden is seen as more honest and trustworthy, leading trump 40 to 33. Both candidates are seen as more unfavorable than not. Among top issues for voters is abortion access. President biden has a 12 point lead over trump on the issue. The former president continues to avoid specific positions, instead deferring to states on the issue. A big hearing is set for today that will give a local government, will give local governments more say over autonomous vehicles. A decision on this issue will really shape the future of selfdriving cars here in california. Now, reggie aqui a south bay state senator, dave cortez, is behind the bill that would give cities and counties, say, over how selfdriving cars operate within their communities. Waymo will Start Testing its robo taxis in seven more bay area cities in the coming weeks, all on the peninsula. In march, the state puc cleared the way for waymo to expand its operating area to include parts of san mateo and santa clara counties. The Pilot Program will only be available to waymo employees at first. They will be able to order rider only trips anywhere from San Francisco to san mateo and burlingame. Senator cortez said this about the bill on the robo taxis in march that we need to create a system right away, you know, to do just modest regulations, modest controls, ordinary normal traffic controls to make things safe for our community. Thats only going to happen if we get our local cities involved. Waymos product manager says the company is in regular communication with local governments and Law Enforcement officials. Today, the Biden Administration is announcing a new program to help the Auto Industry transition to electric vehicles. Amanda at the live desk with the funding to support manufacturers. Now, reggie, Vice President Kamala Harris will be in detroit today to announce 100 million in grants to the Auto Industry. The money will support small and medium sized auto parts manufacturers. It will help them convert parts for electric vehicles or evs and make sure facilities are more efficient and reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions, the white house says. This aims to, quote, keep good, good paying jobs in the same communities as automakers and auto suppliers. Transition to ev manufacture during the grants are coming from the Inflation Reduction Act and the bipartisan infrastructure law. This is the latest in a series of recent investments meant to spur a transition to evs. That transition has become a key political issue in michigan, which is a crucial swing state in the president ial election. And in messages to students just this morning, the University Said it would still have school level ceremonies at ucla. Classes will be back in session today after violent clashes between propalestinian protesters and counterprotesters. Police arrested more than 200 people last week. Ucla chancellor says the school will change its Security Operations and create a new office of campus safety. The university is hiring former Sacramento Police chief rick brazile to lead that new team focused on security. Also in la, usc is cleaning up protesters second attempt to put up an encampment. The university called in the lapd saturday night to clear out that group, saying the encampment was breaking the law. We dont know if any protesters were arrested this time. Uscs graduation, much like columbias graduation, is going to go on. But minus the big commencement ceremony, the university could call that off. Following backlash over its cancellation of the valedictorian speech, they cited safety issues over her propalestinian views. Were also following the propalestinian encampment on uc berkeleys campus. It has reportedly expand, and this is video from last week, the chronicle reports. Alumni have now joined protesters in sproul plaza. Its unclear how many people are there now. The University Spokesperson told the chronicle the administration was aware of this new encampment extension here in the bay area.
