KITTERY, Maine – A nearly 500-signature petition in support of retail marijuana establishments in town has been withdrawn, and town staff are instead working on a draft ordinance and land-use code changes to achieve the goals of the petitioner. As a result of the withdrawal, a public hearing on the petition scheduled for Monday's Town Council meeting was canceled. Town Manager Kendra Amaral said the petition, which 498 Kittery voters signed, would have prompted a special election to be held within eight weeks. But the town was able to work with the petitioner, Josh Seymour of North Berwick-based Green Truck Farms, a medical marijuana company, to instead take the proposed changes through the town's formal process involving the Planning Board and Town Council, she said.
