The much anticipated response from the Police Department is one of the developments. Were getting a better idea of the evidence the fbi has against this man, Matthew Mullers, the marine turned harvardeducated lawyer. We have two teams on this investigation. First, we begin in vallejo with Jodi Hernandez. Reporter raj, today, a Vallejo Police captain and city manager talked to us here at city hall very briefly. They couldnt tell us much they said, but tonight we are getting a closer look at the case evidence that ties Matthew Muller to the kidnapping for ransom case. Newly released documents show a twier wireless video camera and several drones. The fbi is conducting an investigation and were working with them. Reporter they say they cant talk about the police and theyve also refused to backpedal for characterizing the kidnapping as a hoax. Theyve announced theyve arrested a suspect and releasing a growing list of evidence against him. The fbi does not want us making any comments on this case whatsoever. If you can imagine devoting all of our resources 24 hours a day on what i would classify as a wildgoose chase, its a tremendous loss. Reporter but the Police Departments past statements and handling of the case are drawing huge criticism. The couples attorneys and friends would like an apology as well. Just to call it a hoax, i just felt was never appropriate. Reporter now the fbi tells me while they dont want the vallejo Police Department to talk about the details of the case, they say they are free to answer questions about their past statements but, again so far theyve declined to do so. The case went unsolved. . We have a lot of good information but not enough to clearly identify a suspect. Reporter just three weeks later, a few miles away at College Terrace another woman roughly the same age was blindfolded and bound during a 3 30 in the morning Home Invasion. We happened to be across the street here i think a day after it happened and the police were here. And thats all i really remember. It was you know, a home invase that was really unpleasant for the person who lived there, obviously. Reporter and in 2009 Palo Alto Police had a lead. Muller was a named suspect in our case prior to the events unfolding within the last couple weeks. So what our hope is is that these new cases will give us another opportunity to see if theres additional evidence that may connect him to our case. Reporter why wasnt he arrested and charged then . An arrest requires probable cause and there was never enough probable cause to arrest muller or anyone else. Reporter what made him a person of interest back in 2009 . I cant discuss any specifics at this time since its still open and ongoing. Reporter it may involve advice descriptions of the suspect and also materials used to blindfold and bind. The departments assure me they know how to reach them to determine whether or not muller was the intruder. The process may have already started. Reporting live in Mountain View.
