Officer. This is the danger that Oakland Police say their officers ran up against early this morning, an illegal sks Assault Rifle with a 30mound magazine and a man determined to use it. It was an investigation into a Sexual Assault at 9 00 last night that led several officers to the suspects home. At around 1 30 this morning, two officers approached the house to make contact with the 39yearold suspect, when he all of a sudden opened his front door. Immediately began firing upon the officers that were in front of the house. Reporter the shooter emptied most, if not all of this clip. At least one of those bullet hit an officer, a 14year veteran recently promoted to sergeant. His partner, a rookie returned fire and the suspect later died at the hospital. The officer is in serious, but stable condition with nonlifethreatening injuries. Our officers encounter a lot of dangerous situations. We recover a lot of firearms off of people in this city. Any one of those has the potential to go very, very bad. Fortunately this doesnt happen very much, but the potential exists all the time. Reporter this is the city of oaklands fourth officerinvolved shooting this year, the second that resulted in a suspect being shot and killed. As a standard in a situation like this both homicide and internal affairs are investigating what happened here.
