This has been extremely challenging for firefighters. Yesterday, the flames burst through the containment the line and jumped a local highway. Its called the rocky fire in lake county. Its been burning for nearly a week now. The earliest it can be contained is next monday. Here are the new numbers. The flames scorched 65,000 acres, twice the size of San Francisco. Its 12 contained. And nearly 7,000 structures are threatened. Many of them homes. This cal fire map shows the growing perimeter of the fire. People living nearby are worried the flames could soon overrun entire neighborhoods. My big concern right now is just for my neighbors, and because theres a lot of homes around here that are that dont have the wide open space like i have. And theyve got, you know forest and brush and stuff all the way right up to their houses. So many people are being evacuated. Right now more than 10,000 firefighters are battling 22 separate wildfires across california. One thing working in their favor, the firefighters perhaps is our weather. Clouds spread across Northern California and we saw some sprinkles like these near the Golden Gate Bridge today and a few drops in the south bay and peninsula, as well. Were beginning to see this activity break up. So some of the sprinkles we had are now long gone. Winds right now are actually blowing out of two Different Directions coming from the north and also coming from the east making it so difficult for firefighters. He says it wasnt until today that he had a moment of clarity when he watched the video and realized just how close he came to getting killed. It was a splitsecond decision that likely saved a 20yearolds life. As you can see in this video taken in sunnyvale last night by a witness, San Mateo County sheriffs deputy lance whittit pulled nelson gomez out of his car, seconds before a caltrain engine slammed into him. I grabbed him by the arm, pulled him from the vehicle, at which point we got a few feet from the car. I noticed that the train was coming in at the angle the car was parked debris from the car could strike us. At that point, i dragged the driver a few feet farther away from the car.
