To push hard this morning, while the humidity is up and temps and winds are down, because come this afternoon, the weather is not expected to be helpful. This was from the briefs this morning. As youre about to see, you can see some of the scorched black earth the fire left behind when it ripped through 2500 acres starting yesterday afternoon. This is a remote area of livermore off tesla and corral hole low road. Only a few people live out there. Calfire said the fire is only 25 contained, but looking at the video, you might be saying it looks like the fire is out and 100 contained. The Incident Commander telling us dont be fooled. That fire is trying to slowly smolder and get outside of those lines. So it is not contained. Its just slowed down. The worst is this afternoon when we get wind on this fire. That will be our challenge to hold it within the perimeter we have it stopped at right now. Reporter between 1 00 and 3 00 this afternoon is when firefighters expect to see the westerly winds off the coast start up again, the same kind of gusts that with the flames yesterday burning through 2,000 acres in just the first four hours, which is very rained for a wildfire. Calfire saved ten homes, only lost one house that was vacant, this in spite of the fact they are short crews, which unfortunately is not unusual in a fire season as busy as this one has been. The commanders have ordered in air support. Were talking about choppers and air tankers which should arrive later this morning, this afternoon. Calfire is confident they can have it contained within the next two, three days. Thanks, bob. Firefighters are up against tough conditions. Lets turn to kari hall for a look at that part of the story. He was talking about the high humidity during the morning. The humidity continues to steadily decrease. The humidity right now 73 expected to dip down to 33 , and the temperature at 65 degrees still fairly mild, but it could get up to 89 degrees later on today, and the winds picking up from the southwest, up to 35 miles an hour t. Sustained winds will be at 15 miles an hour and that westerly wind add moderate humidity might be working in their favorite. Looking at the temperatures, its in the upper 60s and will continue to climb as we go through the day fairly quickly here. Well continue to monitor what they are up against as they try to get that under control. Well have a look at the rest of the microclimates in a few minutes. Reporter yeah, hey kris and scott. Were talking about market street, one of the most busy and one of the most dangerous streets in the city. Were talking specifically today about upper market, which is between castro and octavia. Its a sixpoint intersection here, pretty yearsing for both drivers pedestrians and cyclists. The city is getting ready to hold a press conference to finish up painting these lines here. This is to help gift pedestrians more room, one of the enhancements to keep cards from swerving into the crowds here. The city says every year 30 people die and 200 more are seriously hurt on the streets of San Francisco, the upper market corridor is part of whats been identified as the 12 of streets in the city that account for 70 of severe and deadly collision. The project has resulted in bolder crosswalks, larger safety zones, and new signs that speak owl no right on red. The supervisor knows firsthand hout critical it is. Ive had close calls as a pedestrian, for sure, and ive seen close calls and i know of people who have been hit. So its a stretch that needs help. It is a bit intimidating as a peat. I think so many different laws apply to the cars and how big the crosswalks are, it can be confusing. Reporter so under the vision zero project set to eliminate all traffic deaths in the city by 2024, this market stretch will still bring improvement in the next 6 to 12 months, including protected bike lanes and extended sidewalks so people can walk shorter distances across the street. Earlier private cars were banned from turning on did many to market earlier , and the supervisor says it seems to be working. He also says there are fewer deaths this year. Back here live again. It still hasnt quite started, but the supervisor acknowledges that the sixway intersections are fundamentally designed flawed. So it would be too complicated perhaps to introduce more problems with traffic if they were to close it and redesign it, so theyre trying to make the best of a challenging situation. Its the drought. In this picture, the delta the canal in Central Valley has sunk so far the bridge is touching the water. As this drought drags on farmers are forced to use even more groundwater, speeding up the process. I read somewhere they are essentially using water that hasnt been above ground for hundreds or thousands of years. Once you collapse the land, when it does start to rain, where is it going to go . Or does everything go back up . Well check in with somebody who knows this. I have absolutely no idea. Youre not a geologist. I would be afraid to go across that bridge. Anyway, we are still dealing with the drought and seeing the impacts. As you go from the coast at 60 degrees to ocean beach to the inland areas, like a look from mt. Hamilton, its 73 degrees and sunny. This is the kind of weather pattern we are used to seeing this time of year, and we are now feeling those temperatures climbing into the lower 70s, in francis at 63 degrees, some clouds lingering along the coast. It will take a while to clear out. In the north bay, it will be 82 degrees today, San Francisco 69, 77 degrees in the east bay, and for the peninsula, well see the highs reaching 78 degrees. Our winds coming in from the west and northwest. That will become more westerly as we go through the day. Coming in with a nice onshore flow and the winds picking up to about 10 or 15 miles an hour, weve been watching the wind speeds, too. Just to the east of livermore with the tesla fire going on, the winds sustained will be at 15, but then the gusts will be much higher, that means short bursts of winds. That will fan those flames. Elsewhere we do have breezy conditions as our temperatures drop once again later on this evening. Going hour by hour in San Francisco, in haze valley at lunchtime, it will be 64 degrees, in the Mission District along that temperature, and rising into the upper 6s on. Before the clouds start to move back in later this evening, and that pattern of the morning clouds, a few breaks, and then the clouds moving back in will continue through the weekend. Going hour by hour in livermore, jumping quickly to those temperatures into the lower 80s by 1 00, and then well be in the 80s through the asp with all of that sunshine and the breezy winds, and mostly clear skies, once again for tonight, that High Pressure we had to start out the week is moving to the south, giving us the clockwise flow of some coastal fog and onshore winds, but then as it continues to move to the east, it would allows for an area of low pressure, which causes the rising air, and other temperatures will be warming up a few more degrees. Highs in the 70s and 80s, it wont be a scorcher of a weekend, still warm in some spots in the trivalley in the upper 80s by saturday and sunday, and in San Francisco in the 60s around 70 degrees, south bay can expect temperatures also in the mid 80s. A bit warm, but we cannot complain about this, after having the recordsetting temperatures last weekend. Send it back to you, kris and scott. Thank you, kari.
