Reporter misery and suffering in Southeast Texas as floodwaters continue to rise. Rescues continued through the night in houston, truckloads of evacuees moved to Higher Ground. This morning air boats fanned out in neighborhoods finding even more survivors. This scene has been playing out for days here, stranded victims lifted from rooftops are finding their way to Higher Ground any way they can. But like those they pulled to safety, experienced First Responders here are stunned by the scope of the ongoing disaster. All the flooding ive seen in all the years, craziest thing ive ever seen. Reporter already the rain that has pounded this area is measured in feet, not inches. And with the eye backov over water, harvey isnt done yet. The storm grabbing that water and dumping it in areas that could see 50 inches of rain or more. For that to move forward, it needs to be approved by a date taking place today with the Contra Costa County board of education. But an improvement from this is far from guaranteed. A decision looms for northgate high, one that is not sitting very well with some of the schools leaders. We have no desire to join an experimental boutique district that stands in contrast to our values of ethnic and socioethnic diversity. Reporter she is a teacher at the high school. She is against this proposal for a new northgate district, which depending on this vote would exceed the mt. Diablo unified school district. This map shows where the district would be, comprised of three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. Advocates say on their website it would be considered a middlesized district, optimal in student performance. However, a student at northgate high says it could have a negative effect when it comes to diversity.
