There are questions about why they were so far forward with the niger military. Because going into those places it makes it difficult to help the group if they are ambushed and it seems like they were ambushed by a larger group. So i know secretary mattis and others will be looking into the details of this and how the approvals process were made but there are questions about what was going on. Trump on his tweets has led to an escalation in tensions. Im worried there will be a crash between south korean and north Korean Forces that could escalate. I almost feel weird asking you this. Youve read the same stories i read and you know the key players around the president in mattis and mcmaster and john kelly. The stories are going around throughout that if the president inches closer to some kind of a Nuclear Confrontation with north korea, that those guys are going to do something. Theyll look anymohim in a room youre smiling but these are the stories out there and they will prevent him from carrying out any action that would cause that. Is that nonsense . I think the military leaders current and former, mattis, kelly, they know the risks of escalation. They know just how dangerous the situation is and they are governors on the president s instinct to intimidate. Youre technically not answering the question. Would they take some action to prevent the president from carrying out an order . The president has unilateral authority to be able to authorize military action. That order goes through secretary mattis. Secretary mattis can talk him out of it, disagree with it, carry it out or not. In july you said it is the obligation of some executive Branch Officials to refuse to carry out those orders that are inconsistent with what this country is about. And i was talking about the context of the firing of james comey and the efforts by mr. Trump and others to try to i think delay and put obstacles in the investigations under way. That has to go forward. We are a country of laws and i feel sometimes mr. Trump feels that its trumps laws that trumpors. If you had been in your old job and had been given an order that you thought was dangerous to this country, would you have flouted an order . If i was asked to renew waterboarding i would have said no, i wont do it and you have to fire me. That would have been plain and simple. You think mattis and kelly and mcmaster would be willing to do the same . It all depends on the circumstances. They are patriots and they understand the gravity of the situation. Based on what you know about the situation in iran, if the president rips up that iran nuclear deal, does he risk in the short term owning a nuclear iran . Then police say he fled to delaware where he allegedly shot another person he knew at a used car lot. The victims and offender knew each other so these were targeted shootings. Yes, empowered by the social media movement, metoo, created in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, mckayla stepped forward, saying she was repeatedly molested by a doctor for the usa gymnastics team. Over 100 women have accused the doctor of misconduct. Mckayla maroney was a member of the fierce five in london, winning gold as part of the u. S. Team, grabbing a silver in the individual vault event, and grabbing the spotlight with that face. Tuesday with the tweet that was stunning and direct, she was back in the headlines. I was molested by dr. Larry nasser, the team doctor for the u. S. Womens National Gymnastics team and olympic team. It started when i was 13 years old, and it didnt end until i left the sport. Mckayla says she was told she was receiving medically necessary treatment that nasser had been performing on patients for over 30 years. Adding, it seemed whenever and wherever this man could find the chance, i was, quote, treated. Antalin, on the team from 95 to 2000, was also abused by nasser and was not shocked by her allegations. I want to say im surprised but not really. I know how many years nasser was in usa gymnastics. If he did it to us, why would he stop . Reporter hes pleaded guilty to three counts of child pornography and is awaiting trial on separate criminal misconduct charges. More than 100 women filed suits against him. Usa gymnastics is under a gag order and cannot speak to mckaylas allegations. He has called the previous allegations against him patently false and untrue. Usa gymnastics released a statement saying, we admire the courage of those like Mckayla Maroney who have come forward. Saying they are outraged and disgusted by the conduct of which nasser is abused. They are strengthening and enhancing their procedures regarding abuse. Maroney is not the first olympic gymnast to accuse dr. Nasser of abuse. In march 2000, Jamie Dancher testified on capitol hill he abused her for years. Many times, the abuse took place in my own room, in my own bed. He abused me in my hotel room in sydney at the olympic games. Reporter mckaylas tweets tell a similar story. An Administration Official says the president also sent a personal check for 25,000 recently to the father of a different fallen soldier, dillon baldridge, a highly unusual move. The white house says the delay was because the donation needed to go through an approval process, but reiterates the money has been sent, with one official telling us the president personally checked up on the progress of that donation multiple times. The nfl will not implement a rule to require players to stand during the national anthem. That came after what goodell called two days of unprecedented conversation between owners and players. The reason it is a problem is it causes warts but can also cause cervical cancer, which is why women get pap smears. It also causes throat cancer in men. 11. 5 of men in this study were found to have oral hpv. How alarming is that number . Stunning. This is a remarkably high incident of and most of these viruses are the dangerous kinds that cause cancer. It partially explains why we have as many throat cancers in men as we have cervical cancers in women. It is causing equal devastation and men and women. The increase in rate among men is most alarming. The risk factors are . To be open about it. It is oral sex, number of sexual partners. It turns out that smoking either marijuana or cigarette predisposes you to an increased risk, as well. This vaccine is only effective if it is given to a young man before he has had any sexual contact . It is most effective if theyve not had sexual contact. There are general guidelines, age 21 for men and 26 for women. Once youve had sexual contact, the virus is rapidly spread through the population. 80 of us will be touched by the virus. Most of us shed it, get rid of it, doesnt bother us. It hangs out in 1 in 10 men, which is why the vaccine makes sense for young men so they dont worry about this. We find also only 6 in 10 young men are getting the vaccine. Is there a reason for that . Its an embarrassing conversation to have. You dont want to talk to your young child. The advice is you get vaccinated around 11, 12, 13. Are doctors talking about this . Probably not enough. Most importantly, parents dont want to have the discussion. When the tradeoff of is a lifethreatening condition, it is more than embarrassing. What should young men be doing . Get vaccinated. Young women, as well. It protects you and the person youre with. Men need to exam this. If you have a lymph node in the area the area where you get sore throats, a lymph node thats grown there, didnt notice before when shaving, you need to examine it. I dont understand being angry when it comes to health care. I really dont understand that. Because i think it is obvious what my intent is. I dont understand a lot of the backlash. What i especially dont understand are the monstrous things people write about my child and my wife. How do you do to deal with that . It is especially hard for my wife. You have to put it out of your head and understand most people wouldnt do that if they were having a one on one conversation with you. Sometimes people are just trying to get a reaction out of you. Theres going to come a day when billy is going to be old enough to see that monologue. Do you want to be the one to show it to him . I do. But maybe for a different reason than you might think. We all remember in fact, i remember covering this story. The firefighters, the best of the best in arizona gave their lives. Its a tragic end. Your role is interesting because not only do we see what happened on the line, the firefighters, we see what happened at home and the toll it takes. Absolutely. I play amanda marsh, who was married to eric marsh, the superintendent of the Granite Mountain hot shots. Im representing the families at home, the people who love the men who go and do this work. Protecting all of us. And, you know, the movie does have a obviously a tragic component but, you know, i love that it is about heros. It is about real human heros. And there are so many stories about people trying to, you know, sort of get one over on one another, bring each other down, and this is, i think, a story about a group of people who really tried to lift each other up and support one another, bring out the best in one another. So i think thats, you know it feels like a celebration in that way. A nice thing to be a part of. I know you got to know and meet amanda, the real amanda. Absolutely. Yeah, it was wonderful. I think it would have felt it would have felt inappropriate to tell the story without her support and without her collaboration. And without her shoes. I heard she lent you her cowboy boots. She did, yes. I got to literally walk a mile in my characters shoes, which was really wonderful. You know, her contribution was just it meant the world to me. The stories that she shared and her honesty. Weve seen she obviously works with horses. I told you i saw the mustovie. You lay down with the horse, do all this stuff with real horses. Did you have to get trained . How did you know how to do that . I did. I had little experience with horses and never done anything like that. You really feel their power and strength when you try and get a horse like that to lay down in a very confined space. It was extraordinary. It was wonderful. I really enjoyed the training. It was important because it is such a big part of who amanda is, you know, her love for horses. Shifting gears a little bit. I was recently catching up on my teen reading from the 80s. I was reading rock n roll romance, and i noticed you were on the cover. I did more research and learned you were featured on many teen books of the 80s. Oh, dear. That is the cutest thing ever. Oh, goodness. You remember those days . Oh, yeah, i do. Jennifer, you and i are almost the same age. You were born in december, right . December 1970, yeah. Im december 71. Meteorologist kari hall tells us the north bay may get up to a quarter of an inch of rain starting late this afternoon or early evening. The north bays three largest wildfires are now more than 80 contained. The pocket fire stands at 63 . Cal fire puts the number of confirmed dead at 42. 23 in Sonoma County alone.
