Really concerned out here in the north bay, terry, tonight. Cal fire telling us that we shouldnt even light a match outdoors, that would be violating a regulation under these red flag warnings tonight. They say their fire behavior analysts have analyzed this, the conditions right now, they tell us their analysts say if someone dropped 100 matches in parts of west napa county right now, those 100 matches would start 74 fires, and those fires would move 14 feet every minute with flames topping out at over 23 feet. Conditions much like tonight i arrived in santa rosa when the north bay fire started in october. Winds pushing the flames from calistoga across dozens of miles, right through the city of santa rosa in just a few short hours. Nbc bay areas Marianne Favro continuing in palo alto with more on the wind damage. Marianne . Terry, right now more than 6,000 people are without power throughout the bay area, most of those are in the south bay, and here in palo alto, 260 people were without power because of downed power lines. Dozens of people in vallejo also experienced a power outage after winds caused a tree branch to take down power lines. Snapped off a power line and couple cable and phone lines, blocking the street right now, and we currently have pg e and Tree Trimmers coming out to remove the hazards. And in antioch, high winds sent a tree crashing into a home, which caused arcing power lines and a power outage in that area. Now, back here in the peninsula, there are 620 people without power at this hour, and the winds are gusting at about 25 miles an hour, so those outages could grow even worse. Reporting live in palo alto, Marianne Favro, nbc bay area news. Marianne, thank you very much. And you mentioned some of the Power Outages. New at 6 00, dozens of people marched in San Francisco today against undocumented immigration and against the citys status as a sanctuary city. The group walked from union square to pier 14 where kate steinle died, the undocumented immigrant holding that gun was found innocent of killing steinle earlier this month. Protesters say shooting or no shooting, sanctuary cities should not exist. We think sanctuary cities and states are very dangerous. We do believe in immigration and welcome anyone who wants to come to this country and do things here, but we dont feel you should be here or taken care of by our government. At times the group was heckled by counterprotesters, but the march remained peaceful and there were no arrests. A uc berkley student robbed of his laptop at gunpoint on campus. Well, a shocking letter against uber has been released to the public as part of an ongoing lawsuit in San Francisco, but theres some question about just how much of it is true. The letter claims the ridehailing company spied on its rivals, as well as politicians and regulators, goes on to detail bribery of officials using special softwar to cover up activity, concealing data from competitors. That letter was written by an attorney representing a former uber employee, but now that employee has back pedalled from some of those claims, but not all, and uber is calling the employee an extortionist who made false claims for money, adding Going Forward it will compete honestly and fairly against others. Hundreds of weapons now off the streets in San Francisco. Police collecting about 280 firearms at the annual gun buyback this morning. The most startling weapon, clearly, is that one. Someone turned in a bazooka, and the policy is no questions asked, and the policy was observed. No questions were asked. Organizers say they collected about twice the number of weapons compared to last years event. Every gun that we destroy and get off the streets is a potential gun that could have killed somebody or destroyed a whole universe, just one of those guns. So getting any gun, even if we got one gun off the streets, one gun, we winning. A passionate supporter. San Francisco Police disassemble each firearm purchased and melt them down. A bit earlier we showed you the increased fire danger in our area. Now for a grim update on the thomas fire still burning in ventura county. Fire Officials Say the fire has grown into the Third Largest in the states history. It is now bigger than the size of new york city. More than 8,000 firefighters sent from right here in the bay area battling the flames on the ground and by helicopter, and conditions are expected to get even worse. Strong winds out of the north pushing the fire back downhill, so extremely gusty, cold, and, you know, relatively humidity being low, its a very hazardous firefight. So far one fireman has died battling the flames. Thom mentioned it a few minutes ago. About 800 homes destroyed. Rob mayeda joining us now. The conditions down there two months ago up in the north bay, all back here in the bay area again. And our fire conditions coming back to life because weve had two to three weeks of dry weather. Most of december weve lacked rainfall. Down to the south in Southern California, that extends back to october, so were just now seeing some of the conditions weve been seeing in Southern California for most of the fall heading into the beginning of this month. Look at the bay area from the beginning of the month. Weve had less than. 05 an inch of rain. In just the last two weeks. Now for the rainfall season going back to october 1st, you can see how overall were missing out on two to three inches plus of rainfall, from San Francisco to santa rosa, so the hillsides now with the dry north winds and offshore wind events act a bit like a time machine, taking us back to octoberlike conditions around the bay area. What we need would be an inch or two or three of rain to come back in and dampen the hillsides and make things look more like december outside. Instead, clear, dry conditions. Still breezy in San Francisco, 59 degrees in San Francisco, 57 in dublin. All the cameras bouncing around as the gusts are above 25 Miles Per Hour. Flag under the 60 degree temperature marker. Wind speeds up to 30 Miles Per Hour into tomorrow morning and in san jose, relatively mild. In fact, 60 right now. Close to the warmest high temperatures we would normally see this time of year. For the morning windsheltered areas dipping into the 30s, clear skies, dry air. But in the hillsides, notice these areas in orange through 7 00 tomorrow morning, locally gusty. After 10 00 now notice how the fields of yellow and orange begin to shrink down towards the north bay, so less wind, certainly by 5 00 tomorrow evening things will still be dry, though, as youll see if the clear skies and temperatures still climbing into the 60s, despite the chilly morning, starting the day in the 30s. Rebounding to about 65 in pleasanton and hayward, 63 in oakland. Peninsula temperatures in the low 60s, similar around San Francisco. Less gusty as we wrap up the weekend, and for the north bay highs in the mid 60s. So here is the rainfall projection now heading towards wednesday. This one system may match our monthly rainfall total, but nothing to get excited about. That is still. 05 an inch or less. Maybe just enough to wet the ground, unfortunately, and here is the same culprit thats been around the last two to three weeks. It will weaken wednesday to bring a slight chance of some showers, more so for the north bay, but look what happens as it moves on out. Well see the high restrengthen off towards north and west, which will likely keep things dry for the end of the week and very likely for the seven to tenday period beyond that. So into Christmas Eve and christmas day, at the end of that sevenday forecast, just off the screen, that, too, looks dry. After that wednesday, chance of showers, maybe some rain around the 26th, but typically this time of year, every two to three days we should see a quarter inch to half inch of rain coming through. This is usually one of the wettest times of the year, nothing in the next seven to ten days looks to reverse the trend. Good november, dry december, could still be salvaged with january and february. Think about getting into the Second Quarter of the rainfall season, but two to three inches of rain, when you lose that, that gets us back in red flag warnings. Thanks very much.
