Breaking news this morning, major back ups along 880 in hayward right now after a crash, look at that, involving a chp officer. This is the first video we are getting a look. Anser hassan is live. Any updates on the officers involved and what happened out there . Reporter yeah, good morning. We have new information at this time. I just spoke with chp. They have confirmed two chp officers were transported to the hospital. We dont know the extent of their injuries. Right now, southbound 880 through hayward has been shut down. As you look behind me, you can see the damage done to the chp patrol car in the crash. The investigators have been out here since midnight. This is 880 across from the south bend mall. Chp says the collision happened sometime after 11 30 p. M. Last night. Appears a car crashed into the back end of the patrol car. The driver of that car was transported to the hospital. If you are planning on driving through the area, leave later or find an alternative route. It is already a mess this morning because the five lanes of southbound 880 is diverted to a single lane, a street exit. People are trying to use emergency lanes to get off. Chp is operating at the maximum through the holidays, meaning all hands on deck on freeways. Chp says expect 880 to highway 92 to be closed for several hours as they clean up the debris on the freeway. Live in hayward, anser hassan, today in the bay. Thank you so much for that. People are out of their homes this Christmas Morning after an overnight house fire in a San Francisco neighborhood. Today in the bays, pete suratos is live near prospect and virginia. Pete, i understand that more homes were impacted by this fire . Reporter yeah, good morning to you, marcus. A second set of circumstances in this neighborhood in San Francisco. There were two more homes affected by all of this. Three homes all together according to San Francisco fire. We are learning, not long ago, there were four people in these homes that had to selfevacuate. The good news is, there were no injuries. Some of this video, San Francisco fire clear the scene shortly. The fire happened roughly around 1 30 a. M. They are saying it started in the front of the home, but they dont know exactly what the cause of the fire is. When we arrived on the scene, we got a chance to speak to residents. Here is what they are telling us this morning, they were able to hear and see when the fire took place. I heard a bang. There was an explosion. I saw an explosion. You know, flames. Very sudden. Thats what i saw. I kind of heard her freaking out. Then, i didnt know what was going on. She said look outside. Yeah, it was up in flames. Reporter behind, if we go live, at least one San Francisco fire engine is here on the scene. As far as the four people that were able to selfevacuate, they appeared to be okay, but are getting help from the red cross. Fire investigators in the south bay are trying to figure out what caused a Christmas Eve house fire. It started in a garage in san jose, then spread to the rest of the home. This is just a block away from san jose hillview airport. The owner was in the home at the time, but is okay. Firefighters say one bedroom was destroyed as well as the garage. The homeowner lived there 40 years. Developing this morning, another attack on bart. A group of teenagers attacked. Police were able to track them down. This happened saturday evening on a richmond bound train. Police say about a dozen teenagers took the victims phone. Many of them took off, but police were able to catch up with several of them. Everyone needs to be aware when riding bart. Beef up security and people need to be more cautious. Have you heard of these things before . I heard things about bart in the past. The victim wasnt able to identify the teen who took his phone and police werent able to find him. Then, there have been several similar incidents over the past year. Developing this morning, investigators hope to learn about a Small Plane Crash in florida that killed five people. A 72yearold lawyer and his daughters were among the dead. Their plane went down in thick fog 60 miles southwest of orlando. Visibility was less than a quarter mile in the area at the time. Happening today, its going to be a White Christmas in new england. Crews spent yesterday preparing the roads. As much as eight inches of snow is in the forecast for the northeast. Cape cod could see wind gusts of 60 miles an hour in this storm. I want to talk about the bonuses stores are dishing out right now. They are actually pretty good. Theres an important restriction. Some stores are going to say, buy 100 gift card, get a 20 bonus. Here is the thing, you get two cards with two sets of rules. The 100 gift card cannot expire. The law prohibits them from expiring. The 20 bonus card is a different story, it might expire, legally. This is not a gift card. They are often called promotional cards, so, stores can apply expiration dates to them. Fair warning, many of the bonus cards we are seeing right now are only good for a few weeks into the new year. We are going to be a little warmer today than yesterday, reaching the mid to upper 50s. 59 degrees in san jose and 58 degrees today in napa. The president and first lady spent part of their Christmas Eve talking to kids about santas journey. One of the children President Trump spoke to was ryan, a 5yearold boy. His Christmas Wish was for his grandmother to get out of the hospital. The president agreed, that would be better than any toy. The children they talked to called norad. Here at home, Salvation Army kitchen is open in San Francisco as they prepare to feed thousands of people together. The chef and crew of volunteers are start thing that meal and willing delivering it later this morning. Hundreds of people volunteering on this Christmas Day. Reporter at john sinnot elementary what is your idea . Reporter like other schools, when a teacher talks bridge building, she means making connection, not major construction. You need to keep each other on track. Reporter in this sixth grade classroom, when they talk about home building, well, that is exactly what they are talking about. I always knew i didnt want to be a traditional classroom teacher. This is what i want you to do. Reporter shes been a fan of project based learning for almost all of her 26 year career. Each year, trying to come up with a bigger project for students to collaborate on. This summer, watching home and garden tv, rita got her biggest idea yet. I said what do you think if we try to build a tiny home . They were like, can we do that . I said, whats stopping us . I thought it was interesting and ambitious. We are on the same page for friday. Reporter rita wanted likeminded teachers to join her and they were off and planning. With the help of an architect and contractor, ritas students along with with other third, fifth and sixth graders were estimating cost, learning construction techniques and time line. All, so that by the end of this school year, outside ritas classroom, a real, permanent, tiny home will stand. Right there. Reporter ritas students have fully embraced the project and love the fact they will leave a tangible legacy at their school. Its what they will take with them into the future, though, that rita cares most about. One of my students said to me, when i said the sky is the limit, you take your project wherever you want and this one student raised his hand and said, why is the sky the limit . Why cant we go i get emotional, but why cant we go higher than that . When a student says that, then you know that what you are doing is what really best for your student.
