Transcripts For KNTV Today In The Bay 20180131

Reporting along southbound 680 at main street, you can actually see those Speed Sensors starting to pick up some delays, it appears one of those vehicles may be blocking one of the lanes and thats going to cause some delays, especially because its already 6 00. Were also following another cratch along eastbound 84 right before 680. You can see just before that traffic collision the yellow and the red, Speed Sensors definitely showing some slowing. Its time to head out now because that traffic is definitely building. I will send it back to you. Developing this morning, a shelter in place has been lifted after a fire at a scrap metal yard in richmond. This is video at the fires peak yesterday. You can see the thick plumes of smoke and the flames. Pete suratos is live at that scene with the major progress firefighters have made overnight. Pete, it looks like they have things under control at this point. Reporter yeah, marcus, things are definitely under control here on south Fourth Street in front of that metal facility that caught on fire yesterday. Of course, its a much different scene here. Look, as were standing here you can still kind of smell that odor in the air but i confirmed with richmond fire that there are no longer high levels of chemicals in the air since that fire is under control. No shelter in place for folks in this area. You guys are taking a look at the scene yesterday when those flames were very high. According to richmond fire theyre saying this all started just after 5 00 underneath a pile of scrap metal at the recycling facility. Its too early to tell what caused that fire, but immediately fire officials ordered five neighborhoods in richmond to shelter in place. Basically right now crews are working with the facility to move piles of that scrap metal looking for any hot spots. Fire crews are dealing with steam and smoldering, different than last night. I had a chance to speak with richmond fire about the scene last night. It was a really large pile when we got on scene some portions were up to 30 feet tall and the fire was at the highest point in the center of the pile. So what we have had to do is work with the heavy equipment to remove that metal and peel it away. As we do that it actually provides oxygen to the pile which gets flareups so that became a problem overnight, trying to extinguish the fire. Reporter once again those affected neighborhoods were santa fe, atkinson, North Richmond and richmond parkway. You no longer have a shelter in place so richmond fire says you can open your windows that shelter in place is no longer in place. We still have fire crews on scene, five fire trucks last time we checked theyre dealing with the smoldering in that scrap metal but the good news is that shelter is no longer in place and folks are able to resume their normal activities throughout the day. Live in richmond, pete suratos for today in the bay. It is 6 03. We are looking live at washington, d. C. This morning where there is still a lot of talk about President Trumps first state of the Union Address. President trump called for unity and tried to strike a conciliatory sorry conciliatory tone. He made that speech amidst bitter fighting. Today in the bays Edward Lawrence is live on capitol hill with what this could mean moving forward. Good morning. Reporter good morning, marcus and kris. Yeah, what it means is republicans and democrats are still at odds this morning. I can tell you, though, this speech was the third longest in state of the union history. The president started out with the first half talking about the economy. Prurp outlined his economic successes in his first state of the Union Address. We enacted the biggest tax cuts and reforms in american history. Reporter the president set an ambitious agenda for his second year in Office Starting with a 1. 5 trillion investment to rebuild the nations infrastructure. He called on democrats to work with republicans to act on the immigration plan the president laid out. One where nobody gets everything they want, but where our country gets the Critical Reforms it needs. Reporter the president called for an end to chain migration. Under the current broken system a single immigrant can bring in virtually unlimited numbers of distant relatives. Under our plan we focus on reporter democrats also sending a silent message wearing all black in support of the me too movement. Their official response this administration isnt just targeting the laws that protect us, theyre targeting the very idea that we are all worthy of protection. Reporter republicans happy with what they heard. Great speech. He summed it up at the end. Our nation will forever be safe and strong and proud and mighty and free. Reporter the president sending a strong message for the second year of his term. Edward lawrence, nbc news, washington. 6 06. Beautiful sight right there showing that blue moon, super moon, Lunar Eclipse. The total eclipse is wrapping up right now but a partial Lunar Eclipse will continue for about one more hour. Sharon katsuda is live at the viewing party showing us this amazing phenomenon, sharon. Reporter thats right, marcus. What an incredible morning. Lets get to one of the initial accidents along southbound 680 at main street. Were starting to see more delays and this is going to go further back. The reason for that is because it looks like one of those vehicles may be blocking one of those lanes, thats going to take a little longer to clear. Also a quick look at your mass transit. 47 trains, no delays across the board. If you are heading out with mass transit you probably have time to stop for coffee. Thanks vianey. Coffee. We will take a look ahead to the rest of the forecast, it gets even warmer, thats coming up at 6 19. A look at your bridge drive times. Cnbc says this morning at least two governmental agencies the sec and the Justice Department are investigating. Apple also faces several lawsuits as well. In other news this morning, wall street, boy, take a look at those numbers down 362 points yesterday. One of the biggest losses we have seen, in fact, the biggest loss since may. Now, percentage wise the bigger that dow number gets the smaller the percentage. So its about 1. 3 probably. But that came right ahead of the speech on the state of the union. So lets talk about the state of the union. Well, the state of the union 4. 5 million tweets during that speech, the most ever during the state of the union. Im sure you were on twitter as well. One guy had a perfectly good day on the stock market was jeff bezos the ceo of amazon made 1. 59 billion yesterday. This after news amazon, Jpmorgan Chase and Berkshire Hathaway will work on creating cheaper healthcare. 1. 59 billion i wrote it down on a piece of paper, you go out two decimal places you are still balking about 90 million. It takes us a week to make that much. I mean, i think that that speaks to the fact that healthcare is such a critical thing to so many people and so Many Companies and investors want and we dont even know what it is hes going to do with healthcare, we just know that the power of amazon and the bank and Berkshire Hathaway thats a lot of weight there that they can get something done. People trusting that. Yeah. Thank you. Happening now, take a look right there, beautiful sight, its a super blue moon. Live pictures from nasas feed this morning. Theyre probably up right about now, their Science Teacher, my sixth grade Science Teacher is giving them extra credit if they document it, take a picture. Yeah, so, i mean, i think that that is really nice to tie it into not just the conversation but the education. We say blue moon but the kids are looking up and theyre saying its not blue. Right. But a second full moon in a month makes it a blue moon, thats just what we call it, but it actually appeared red. Here is a look at it in San Francisco, weve moved past t totality and will gradually see it going back from that orange rust color to white. Its going to be a white white. We can see that happening pbni. Now on our camera in San Francisco. Really cool still if you can get up and get a look out the window. The sevenday forecast also looking good, too. Look at how cold it is in santa rosa, we are just one degree above freezing and we have some fog. You do have to watch out for some of those spots where the fog and near freezing temperatures could create icy spots on elevated roads. Look at our high temperatures today, its going to be a Beautiful Day reaching into the upper 60s, even near 70 degrees in some spots like pleasanton and in oakland today 65 degrees. 64 degrees in san mateo and in San Francisco on the embarcadero, a high of 66 degrees. Also 66 today in novato. So going out for that morning drive in the east bay starts out cool, heaters on, but then later today windows open, we can let in some fresh jj High Pressure keeps it dry over the next few days. Weve been hoping for some rain in the forecast, but with thisa pattern in place nothing but sunshine in the sevenday forecast and well above normal temperatures, San Francisco in the upper 60s and inland areas reaching into the mid 70s. Vianey, anything happening on the roads yet . We do have a couple issues. I did see that you got your car with regard this weekend and i think kris got hers washed, too, according to her facebook post. Right now we are seeing a couple issues on the road. Lets get to this one, chp is reporting a crash along southbound 680 at main street road. We are seeing pretty heavy delays out of this area, backed up beyond or i should say past ramone in a drive. Hop off ramone in a drive and take surface streets and then just hop back on after the accident. Bart no delays, 47 trains up and running and no delays across the board, ace, vta looking pretty good. The bay bridge tower cam busy and the metering lights have been on for a long time.
