More than 150 victims will file a lawsuit against the city and Santa Clara CountyWater District. Today in the bays kris sanchez joins us live with more on this lawsuit and what the city is now trying to do to prevent this from happening again. Reporter youll remember when we were here last february the water was up to this point and they are not back to normal. Nowhere near it. Those were the red tagged buildings where firefighters were rescuing people by boat. It was a shocking sight when firefighters had to rescue those folks by boat. Some say they didnt know they were in danger until the water was up to their doorstep. We asked the same question a lot of those folks did which is why werent they ordered out sooner . Why didnt they know they were in danger . The lawyer for those 150 families planned to file that civil complaint against the city of san jose, Santa Clara County and the Water District. That complaint alleges negligence and breach of duty among other things. The mayor conceded almost immediately there was a failure in the system. He outlined some of the changes that have happened in the year since. Now they include an improved Warning System that includes a system to send text notifications to anyone in the area without signup. If youre just visiting the area, you will get a text message. Expanded training for people who live in the flood prone area so they are not caught off guard again. Also enhanced communication with the Water District clarifying who is responsible for what. There was a lot of finger pointing on that day last year. The Water District made flood improvements including raising the levee height in Anderson Reservoir which was part of the problem. And there has been an ongoing clearing of coyote creek to improve water flow. It is unclear whether or not all of this addresses what those residents want to hear but we are going to hear from them. Critics say the deal leaves out immigration reform. We will remember who was for us and who was against us. Half the people in the bay area speak a language other than english in their homes. Most immigrants come from asia. Twice as many come from mexico. The number of homes sold continues to fall as it has for five years. People arent selling. A vast majority of people who retire in Silicon Valley stay in their homes instead of downsizing. There are fewer houses available if tech buses were a Transportation Agency theyd be the seventh largest in the bay area, about the size of cal train. There would be that many people on the roads.
