Traffic break i believe, theres a change in status as well. We just learned this from chp, that the crash eastbound, so counter commute 80 at Hilltop Drive, we do have a deadly crash reported now. Someone has died as a result of a traffic incident here coming up through san pablo that, will show you down, counter commute, headed up toward the carquinez bridge but the activity may be a distraction as well for folks countering westbound so well track that and bring you as many details as i can through the area. The trivalley we believe the earlier crash cleared just south of 84 interstate 680 but there may be another crash in the area. Were tracking the trivalley. Back to you. Developing now were waiting to see if there will be more i. C. E. Raids today in San Francisco, in particular. I. C. E. Claims it will target as many as 2,000 undocumented immigrants who have already been ordered by the courts to leave the country. Today in the bays krs boswell is live in washington, d. C. The raids are leaving a lot of communities on edge. That critics say is the goal is to stoke fear, scott and laura. Good morning. Good morning, everyone. As promised by President Trump or really as advertised by President Trump, immigration Officials Say they have begun raids targeting some 2,000 undocumented immigrants, those who have been ordered by courts to be taken out of the country or those with criminal backgrounds. The raids in some nine, possibly ten cities getting under way on sunday. Getting under way much slower than as advertised by the administration. Theres not these video of arrests. Theres not, of course the only video weve seen is government car pulling up, but critics are saying the difference is that undocumented immigrants around those being targeted might also be rounded up and that, they say, is again goes back to the intention, which is to cause fear, to stoke fear in the immigrant community. The acting director of i. C. E. , Ken Cuccinelli here in washington, d. C. , on the sunday shows defended the raids and when asked if hed separate children from families would only say that families are part of those being targeted. Scott and laura, this is an interesting statistic. According to i. C. E. Statistics, more than 256,000 people were deported last year, so 2,000 is a very small number and plays in to critics who say that this is really just intended to stoke fear in the immigrant community, and really be a reelection issue for the president. Back to you. Craig boswell in washington, thank you. Back here in the bay area, immigrant groups say theyre not letting their guard down just yet. Sharon katsuda continuing coverage in San Francisco showing us why San Francisco groups are on alert. Good morning. Reporter good morning, laura and scott. The i. C. E. Office behind me is closed right now but overnight, many were wondering whether i. C. E. Would come after them. At the Mission District yesterday, it was noticeably quiet. Immigrant support groups say for the past few weeks because of the possible raids they warned the communities to call and report any i. C. E. Activity and warned immigrants about their rights. In san rafael, i. C. E. Was reportedly spotted over the weekend, but so far no word of any raids or arrests here in the bay area. We were ready not only this week but ready weeks before. We thought if i. C. E. Is going to strike theyll strike on a day not announced by the president. We have could do something. If it means i got to stand out here a few hours in the hot sun and hand out flyers, im going to do that. Reporter one i. C. E. Official says theyre not technically considered undocumented immigrants, because they have gone through the court system, and thats the target of these raids. Were hearing i. C. E. Made a handful of arrests in new york yesterday, and these i. C. E. Raids are supposed to go on throughout this week. So immigrant support groups say theres still high anxiety in the bay area communities. Reporting live in San Francisco, im Sharon Katsuda, today in the bay. Understandable. A 4yearold girl was pepper sprayed last night during a fight. San jose police are asking a lot of questions. It happened at a 7eleven at monterey. Today in the bays kris sanchez joins us live with what witnesses saw. Kris . Reporter hi there, laura and scott. The witness who was inside, an employee of the eleven store said this is something unlike anything he has ever seen before. This is video from when Police Arrived and started asking questions. It was just before 11 00 last night. They were investigating how a fight between two grown women escalated to the point that a child was sprayed with pepper spray. At this point, it is not clear if the woman who sprayed the pepper spray intended for the child to be hit. Or if it was an accident. What we do know is that the little girl and the woman she was with ran into the store looking for help, looking for water to wash out their eyes. The employee who witnessed it said it was so shameful. They need to solve their things maturely, not like this, using pepper spray and involving the kid. Reporter now police were asking questions both here at the 7eleven store on monterey road and at an apartment complex not too far away. If anyone is facing charges at this point, police have not told us that but we will keep asking. In san jose, kris sanchez, today in the bay. Thanks for the latest, kris. 6 07 on your monday morning. Prosecutors expected to present rebuttal witnesses in the deadly ghost ship warehouse fire trial. Last week, defendant Derick Almena wrapped up his testimony. Happening today, amazon, other retailers hoping to set off a bit of a summer shopping frenzy. Amazons fifth annual prime day sale is under way. The online retailer is promising more than a million deals and hopes to avoid a website crash that hindered sales last year. To capitalize on the deals you have to have an amazon prime membership. Not to be outdone, dozens of other retailers including target and walmart running some sales today in that big effort to compete. The race for spending comes as traditional retailers face a tough year, more than 7,400 stores have closed their doors so far in 2019. Amazon created this new spike and massive implications for retail in other retailers have to have their share of that wallet. If that wallet share goes on, i think its going to see target and walmart and best buy suffer even more. Several employees at an amazon plant outside minneapolis plan to strike today, calling for better wages and working conditions. However, amazon says it will not have an impact on operations. The today show will have much more about all the deals being offered, thats all coming up at 7 00 a. M. You have a concern for san pablo drivers. I do. Drivers through san pablo be careful. Counter commute, we warned folks, westbound your commute coming off the carquinez bridge thats just fine. A little distracted because of this deadly crash, the Traffic Alert thats been issued by chp eastbound 80, at el portal, the earlier crash weve been tracking, we have reports someone died as a result of that crash and youre right, two lanes are blocked so your freeway blocked headed eastbound through san pablo, counter commute. If youre used to the counter commute being easy that will delay you by about ten minutes. Keep that in mind headed toward the carquinez bridge. An earlier crash cleared south 680 past highway 84. In the earlier backup there was another crash on the shoulder, still recovery as you head down 680 through pleasanten i donon bad. 880, hayward, union city and the south bay slowing cleared from the first slowing. Including on madison avenue here in new york, beverly hills, San Francisco and chicago as well, this would be one of the highest profile victims of the downturn in retail. Its not huge by lotto standards but a mystery. We have no idea who holds a milliondollar Powerball Ticket purchased in san jose for saturdays drawing. Maybe our new next best friend, hmm . You can probably assume they want it that way, right . At any rate the winner correctly picking all five winning numbers, except the powerball. They bought their ticket at the 7eleven on moore park avenue in san jose, close to lawrence expressway. The store gets up to onehalf percent of the prize value, about 6,000 in this one. That turns out to be about a third of a house. Thats pretty exciting. No kidding, in the bay area. As parents can attest, coaxing little ones into the pool for their first Swimming Lesson can be a challenge. Its why you want to help, get some help from experts. Rush park sacramento, some real life mermaids made things easy. Swim lessons were part of the california mermaid convention, yes, thats a thing. An event thats only been around for five years in sacramento but everybody seemed to agree its making waves. Delta mermaids. Youre right. You know what, though . Do they teach their students how to breathe . Because dont mermaids breathe underwater . Right. Different style. They looked like they were lounging. It would be tough to teach like that. All the dads were taking the kids to the pool. Yeah. For the swim lessons because this is important, people where is the mermen . We dont need to see them. Ethel merman . Were trying to cool off and this is our typical summer pattern where we see a wide range in temperatures. Lets get you with a live look in oakland as the sun comes over the hills. Its a beautiful start to the day, and recently weve had a lot of clouds at least for the early hours, but were not seeing that right now. As the marine layer has retreated back away from the coastline. So our temperatures are already starting to spread out. Check out brentwood. Were at 75 degrees. We mostly have some upper 50s and low 60s as you get ready to head out the door. If youre in oakley, you want to go to the playground enjoying time at the park. Expect temperatures in the next hour or so around 68 degrees, and then starting to warm up. Were already at 79 degrees at 10 00. At noon, it is 86, and its going to be a hot day, as we top out in the 90s. But before you step out, if youre allergic to tree pollen, especially the locust thats blooming and floating through the air, thats the highest amount weve seen on the pollen count. Our temperatures today headed up to 88 degrees in livermore, while san jose will top out at 83 degrees. Were seeing a high of 85 today in napa, and some upper 60s in San Francisco. So we have the cool at times cloudy coast and the warm valleys. High pressure still remains over the desert southwest. As we go throughout the rest of the week, we are going to see an area of low pressure moving across the pacific northwest, bringing seattle a little bit of rain, while we will have a stronger onshore wind flow, and some cooler temperatures, just slightly for the weekend. So this is the way the week shapes up for us. Inland areas in the mid 80s for the next several days, and dropping into the lower 80s once again just a slight cooldown. San francisco will see also a slight cooldown by the weekend, but were in the upper 60s, so its just going to be cool all throughout the week, with some gusty winds. And as we head over to mike, youre tracking a very serious crash in the east bay. Thats right, kari, the reason why chp has called the Traffic Alert for the upper east shore freeway. Now, if we look purely at the commute data, were worried about the slowing so we do worry about the loss and the damage over there on the freeway and the people involved but were looking at the slower drive as far as two lanes being blocked and the east sheer freeway counter commute. Its a minor delay as far as the slowdown but unexpected so expect maybe five to seven minutes of extra driving as you come up through the area approaching Hilltop Drive in el portal. Looking at the westbound commute that is the issue, the build for the commute coming off the carquinez bridge, just because of the volume and no major problems aside from the backup at the bay bridge toll plaza. Which you expect. The trivalley southbound 680 slow through pleasanton. Big crash at 84 cleared. One in the backup approaching the area on the shoulder, a distraction not bad for the trivalley. Hayward feeds over 880 in toward 92 westbound, thats the san mateo bridge, slowing across the flat section and a little build for the volume across the dumbarton bridge as well. Wanted to show you the bay bridge toll plaza i guess westbound you seehe fastrak lanes going through the sun is in your eyes if youre traveling eastbound. So you know what to expect at this time of year and no delays, so b. A. R. T. Will help you avoid at backup at the bay bridge toll plaza because that takes you under all that crowd. 6 20. Coming up next on today in the bay an intense search for a missing woman camping east of fresno. Her husband and family asking for help. The reason she was, they believe she was abducted.
