Today is going to be another hot one, although for areas like boston where yesterday you broke a record at 95 degrees, today you should hit a high of 84. So it will feel much better across new england, although in new york were still feeling like its close to 90 degrees. Philly will feel close to 100, salisbury, maryland, will feel like its 101 today, and then tomorrow the heat builds right back in. We are going to see temperatures that are still up around 90 to 95 degrees with your heat index about 102 to 110 like little rock. Thats all going to continue to push back in as we go into tomorrow, so we are going to see the chance of temperatures once again feeling like its about 105 degrees or higher. Most of our hottest temperatures will be down south. Dallas will feel like 105 tomorrow, little rock will feel like 107. Tallahassee will feel like 100. D. C. Feels like 102, and new york city will feel like 96 degrees on wednesday. We will get some relief by friday. Thats when temperatures will almost feel falllike when you wipe out the humidity. Its going to only be 79 on friday in new york city, 80 on saturday. Cleveland will be in the mid70s, even richmond, virginia, in the mid80s. Even charlotte down to 83 degrees by saturday. It comes more than five years after the fatal arrest that sparked nationwide protests and became a flash point in the black lives matter movement. Nbcs ron allen is here with more on that. Garners family and their supporters have been demanding the officers dismissal for years especially since a local grand jury and federal prosecutors chose not to file criminal charges against the now former officer daniel pantpanta. Neither side in this emotional case is saying its over. Reporter this video shot by a bystander of officer Daniel Pantaleo arresting eric garner in 2014 for selling loose, untaxed cigarettes ignited nationwide protests and a demand for police accountability. The unintended consequence of mr. Garners death must have a consequence of its own. Reporter after five years of investigations, new yorks Police Commissioner fired pantaleo, a 13year veteran with nearly 300 arrests. Daniel pantaleo can no longer effectively serve as a new york city Police Officer. Reporter an nypd administrative judge recently ruled that pantaleo violated department rules by using a chokehold, banned because its so dangerous, and called for his dismissal. The commissioner agreed. Officer pantaleo had the opportunity to readjust his grip from a prohibited chokehold to a less lethal alternative, but did not make use of that opportunity. Commissioner oneill, i thank you for doing the right thing. You finally made a decision that should have been made five years ago. Reporter an expression of gratitude from garners family but also calls for the criminal case against pantaleo to be reopened and for other officers involved to face police discipline. Yeah, pantaleo, you may have lost your job, but i lost a son. Reporter pantaleo through his attorney also pushing back saying hell appeal, with the support of the police union who accuse the commissioner of turning his back on his officers. Our Police Officers are in distress because they realize theyre abandoned. Oneill admitting he understands their anger. If i was still a cop, id probably be mad at me. I would. Youre not looking out for us, but i am. We watched commissioner oneill yesterday at times get emotional, quite serious about all of this as hi announced the decision. What kind of pressure was he under . Intense pressure from the rank and file cops who wanted the commissioner for them, for garners family and supporters around the country who want someone held accountable for his death. The commissioner made a point of saying he wants the public to see there is accountable in the nypd. That goes to the matter of trust which is a big problem for a lot of Police Departments across the country. Thank you, ron. Now to new developments in the Jeffrey Epstein case. Epsteins brother was his only heir, but according to that will he actually wont get anything. Instead it will all into trust created the very same day that document was signed. Virgin islands where epstein owned property. The will values his estate at 577 million, 18 million more than what he told a judge last month with 56 million listed as cash, and 18 million in aviation assets, automobiles, and boats, but it will likely be worth much more than that. The category of fine arts, antiques, collectibles, valuables and other personal property still needs to be appraised. Assets that some women accusing epstein of sexual abuse are already going after in the wake of his suicide, as scrutiny intensifies on what epstein left behind, the u. S. Prison system is facing new fallout from his death in federal custody. On monday the acting director of bureau of prisons reassigned by attorney general william barr. Barr, writing the new leadership will lead b. O. P. With the competence, skill and resourcefulness they have embodied throughout their governmental careers. The move comes days after the warden of the prison where epstein died was reassigned. Two guards who were supposed to watch epstein have also been placed on leave. Investigations now trying to determine whether they were literally asleep on the job when epstein died. The u. S. Attorneys office here in new york has also formally filed to have the criminal indictment against epstein dismissed. Its a move that was expected in light of his death. The u. S. Military that could add to tensions with russia. Americas first test of a missile banned for three decades under a key treaty that was recently abandoned by both countries. This morning we are getting new reaction from russia overnight calling that test sunday regrettable and an escalation of military tensions, but officials in moscow also insist they will not allow themselves to be drawn into a costly arms race, which is what some experts fear. Watch, as for the first time in more than 30 years the u. S. Military tests this missile off the coast of california and tests its relationship with russia, too. The pentagon says this modified Navy Tomahawk Cruise Missile flew some 300 miles to hit its target, a launch that would not have been allowed under the cold war era treaty with moscow, meant to minimize the development of certain kinds of weapons. The u. S. Abandoned that landmark 1987 agreement earlier this month after accusing the russians of repeatedly violating it. Now the u. S. Is free to conduct tests like this one sparking new concerns of a potential arms race restarting. Russias president Vladimir Putin warning before the test if russia obtains reliable information that the u. S. Is producing intermediate and mediumrange missiles, russia will have no option other than to engage in a ll scale effort. I dont see an arms race happening. It was the russians who broke the treaty and forced us out of it. We remained compliant up until the final day. Authorities say this Instagram Video of reardon got their attention. It was implied that he was going to be identified as a shooter of the jewish center. That kicked off a very intense investigation. Reporter at his home, police found ar15s, a bullet proof vest, and plenty of ammo. Investigators say hes a white supremacist who taenattended th charlottesville unite the right rally. Reporter in a supermarket parking lot friday, authorities arrested a man just hours after getting a tip he was making threats. 25yearold tristan wix of Daytona Beach was in court monday. The judge holding him without bond for the protection of the public. Prosecutors say he sent disturbing Text Messages to his exgirlfriend including, quote, i wanna open fire on a large crowd of people. There are four felony counts. Reporter in Connecticut Police arrested Brandon Wagshol after a trip said he bought highkwaft rif highcapacity rifle magazines out of state. Those three arrests came after las vegas Police Arrested 23yearold connor climo on august 8th saying he communicated with a neonazi group and talked with an undercover operative about attacking a synagogue or a gay bar. He has not entered a plea. Court documents say a local tv news report showed him patrolling his neighborhood with an assault rifle. The judge yesterday dismissed three jurors for undisclosed reasons following ten days of deliberation. All three dismissed jurors were women. I say are you human, and you say that you are, and then you go and do some incredible super human feat how did it feel to walk off that floor last week making history mmhmm, it felt incredible, no female has ever done that skill before, but for me i had trained it for a while now, so it was kind of just normal for me, but looking back at the videos, it doesnt look normal, and i know its not normal. I know, do you have any idea when youre doing that stuff that its just going to go super viral . I mean, first, you know, the routine goes viral then they put it in slow motion, then we really need to put it in extreme slow motion to really, really grasp what you just pulled off yeah, i actually had no idea how viral it was going to go i thought that nothing was really going to happen i knew i was going to be the first female to do it, and then after that i was going to be like, okay, yeah, whatever because not too many people Pay Attention to gymnastics, especially in a nonolympic year, so it was crazy to see how viral it went, and it just kept, like accumulating, and its still going, so its kind of crazy. Well, you are hilariously humble because of course were paying attention thats what happens when youre setting records and making history and pushing the sport like you do. How important is it to you, not just to win medals but to do things that have literally never been done . Mmhmm. Its kind of crazy, but you know, in and out of the gym i try to push myself and see how much i can do, and i guess that results in breaking a lot of records. It does now, i think i read that some of these things you actually started talking about like years ago, some of these moves that we saw last weekend yes i never thought a lot of the moves would be feasible until i started training once i came back from taking like a year and a half off, and then now im competing them, and i never thought in a million years that some of my dream skills i would be able to compete. You already have a couple of moves that i think are named after you. Whats better, getting a gold medal at the olympics, or getting something named after you . Because both seem really great. Yes, but i feel like since it gets named after you, it will be in the books forever and hopefully more athletes will want to try it, and i think thats super exciting. You drive yourself so hard. I noticed, i think it was the first night of competition you didnt like how one of the routines went, and you dont have a poker face. We could tell you were not happy. Where does that fire come from, that burning desire to just be excellent . Yeah, because i feel like now if i go out and do what im supposed to do, i should come out top three, so i just really upset myself whenever i dont compete how i train and i dont give the performance that i want to, so i just get really frustrated. I hate to even ask you about the troubles facing usa gymnastics because the focus is and it should be on your incredible accomplishments, but you gave such an emotional and powerful answer the other day, and it really struck me that, you know, while youre doing everything youre doing in your sport, youre also healing, and youre doing both at the same time. Yes what has this journey been for you . Oh, goodness, i feel like its been a roller coaster a lot of highs, a lot of lows, but you know, coming back im doing this just for me, and i think thats different than the last time around for me, i feel like i have nothing to prove to anyone, so i think thats what keeps me in this sport, besides love and passion. And you saw what the usa gymnastics, the new president had to say after your comments was that was that enough for you . Do you feel like theyre doing the right things now i dont know. I feel like you can always talk the talk, but you have to show up and you have to prove, and you just have to do your job at the end of the day, and it would almost be better if you just proved to everyone rather than talking because talking is easy. Lets talk about another project youre doing, and i love this, youre teaching a master class in gymnastics, which is great because my summomersault really needs some work who is this class for, and what are you going to do . The class is for all ages it goes from beginner to intermediate to advanced and all the way to what im doing. Were teaching the fundamentals of gymnastics on all four events it will go from basics to skills and drills as well, so its really exciting. So i hope all ages can tune in and see how it goes. What happened reporter a teacher went flying, but those students seat belted and safe. Between 2008 and 2017, 1,241 people died in School Transportation related crashes most states dont require seat belts on large school buses. And for the cake, were just going to add our simple ingredients. Weve got some eggs, weve got some granulated sugar. Weve got some Pineapple Juice and this is my trick because it adds the pineapple flavor right into the cake. Okay. And so you also have that of course with the topping, youve got some vanilla and also some salt and some baking powder. Okay. And another thing i love about this cake is its a one bowl, so you do not have to dirty up a ton of stuff. Thats it, its all right here. Mix this up until its super smooth and here we go. Were going to do this together are you going to come on this side so were going to start with a little of the caramel. This is the one thats a little thinner. Youre going to spoon a little into your ram ken. Just a little on the bottom a little on the bottom, let that spread out some were going to add our pineapple. You can use fresh pineapple. You can use out of the can if you use the can, a trick is to also use the juice from the can, then you get that double that ease, add a Little Cherry to the middle. A cherry on top, one for that, one for me were good. Delicious, delicious. Does it make it more moist . Really kind of light and refreshing, too. Then were going to add our cake batter right on top of that baby. Nice. And then this bakes in the oven at 350 for about 20 minutes. Youre going to use a toothpick. Insert that right into the center you flip it over, and its so cute. Flip it over, its so darling. And not feel guilty. Right so love that. You Start Talking about the ingredients for the marble cake. Now weve got little marble cakes and these are like pound cakes, you grew up with those.
