Weve learned this is not just one fire, but a combination of six fires that started shortly before 2 00 this afternoon. So far 138 acres have burned along calaveras and felter roads. Right now the fire is 40 contained and it is not burning in a heavily populated area and no buildings have burned. The fire is near Calaveras Reservoir and calaveras road is now closed and this afternoon cal fire made air drops and we saw a lot of pink retardant covering many of the roads. Crews are also using dozers and other equipment to help them cut fire lines in this area which has very steep terrain. Weve also seen a lot of water tanker trucks heading to the fire which is a remote area. Now fortunately right now the winds are mild. So again, heat, steep terrain. Thesethe firefighters right now. The cause of this fire is under nvestigation and fire crews here allignto the morning to keep an eye on this fire. Again, its at 40 containment. Reporting live in milpitas, marianne favro. Thats not the only fire were tracking tonight. Theyre considering shutting off power in the north bay if things get dangerous. Christie smith spoke about the utility threat. Reporter right now its hot in santa rosa, but not windy. These are the kinds of conditions that pg e keeps an eye on. Living through a wildfire, no. That really home. Like, it can happen anywhere. Lisa christie lives in santa rosa and wants to be prepared and that includes as much notice as possible if there is any potential the power can be shut off. For a couple of reasons and one is that i like to make sure im ready at home so i would keep a half tank of gas in my car. The potential for Public Safety power shutoff is now at elevated for three zones monday and tuesday and that includes parts of the north bay. To be clear the Public Safety power shutoff event has not been called. This is were monitoring adverse conditions that we see for monday and tuesday. Before a shutoff would have to move from watch to warning, triggering more notifications and then even more if its actually imminent. A psps happens under certain conditions. Lots of gusty winds and dry conditions combined with a heightened fire risk threatens the system and theres no single factor. The Santa Rosa Fire Department has tweeted out neig imminent. Neighbors should be aware. The reality is that theyre working hard with pg e to make sure they get as much notification as possible so we can continue to educate. Some neighbors did not agree with the idea of a shutoff, but others said it makes sense. If there is a way to be informed i think its helpful for all of the residents. Pg e says its important to remember that if they get to the warning stage that just means that its probable and they would again, be contacting customers and it doesnt mean that a power shutoff is 100 . Reporting live in santa rosa, christie smith, nbc bay area news. Thank you so much. That weather is not helping the situation, rob.
