The fog is the issue right now and visibility in the trivalley and parts of the east bay cut down to about a quarter mile or less. In fact, thats a look at our dublin camera, wow, you can barely see anything. So just slow down as you make your way out the do are. Checking out storm ranger we are seeing dry conditions. Traffic is moving nicely and good spacing, allow for a little extra stopping distance. We just reported that there was an active shooter, that shooter is now dead and a lockdown is over at the Naval Air Station on the florida panhandle. The active shooter incident happened at the Naval Air Station in pensacola, florida. Now we know that another person has died in this incident. So the gunman who initiated this active shooter situation and another person are dead. Several other people have been taken to the hospital. The story is developing. Were going to bring you more details as soon as we get this emin to the newsroom. 6 03. Back to the storm and whats coming, and of course the preparations under way. Today in the bays Damian Trujillo is live in Santa Cruz Mountains and i know you were out there monday morning and it was really coming down. Reporter yes, things are a little different this morning. No rain right now but the gauge inside our news van says its 48 degrees. A slight wind effect also so it might be a little colder than that but it is dry. That will soon change perhaps by the evening commute up here in the Santa Cruz Mountains and all of Northern California is bracing for what is expected ahead this evening, and into saturday morning up here. One of the areas of concern is south of salinas, highway 101 between chular and gonzalez. On wednesday floodwaters forced the closure of the highway in both directions. Several cars got stuck in the flood as drivers hope to make it across. Crews made some emergency repairs yesterday but there are no guarantees that the area wont flood again. So be aware if youre headed to Southern California, including my hometown of greenfield on highway 101. Another area of concern is up north in Sonoma County. The area around the kincade fire will soon be under a flash flood watch. That watch begins early tonight and lasts into saturday morning with the heavy cold front expected there. They expect up to threequarters of an inch of rain per hour in the kincade area. The ground there is already sat la rated. After that, the scorched earth and threat of mudslides and rock slides increases dramatically in that air. Be prepared for a soggy couple of 24 to 36 hours up ahead, because the rains are coming. Were there for the central parts of the sierra. The snowpack is where it should be at 103 . More snow is on the way but it does start out as some rain and youll only see that snow as you go above 5,000 feet. We are going to start to see it come in this evening, tomorrow morning. Some scatter the snow showers coming through and the snow levels will start to drop on saturday into sunday with the potential of getting about two feet of snow in some of the ski resorts. They say somehow that driver there crashed his car own a levee in the alviso slew past the field. An off road vehicle to h to get him. The man was muddy but otherwise okay. Firefighters dont know how the driver ended out there but remind everyone the levees are not designed for vehicle traffic. 6 07. Fremont police are warning about a new rash of car breakins. Officers say wednesday night suspects targeted apartment complexes some of which were gated. They smashed windows, took bags and other items from the parked cars. Police say this is damage they did to one of the car windows. The Department Says this is a reminder to take your personal items out of your vehicle. It is planning to add extra patrols to deal with the issue. B. A. R. T. Riders be prepared to dig deep near your pockets when it comes to the fares the new coming year. Fares go up every other year pegged to inflation. January 1st a 5. 4 increase. Downtown berkeley to oakland will increase ten cents. Antioch to powell street will go up 40 cents. We see here is the center of the storm, it is not connected to that deep tropical moisture coming from hawaii, but it will still bring in some significant rainfall totals, were looking at san jose getting up to an inch of rain, and much higher comments headed to the north bay, about two to three inches. Well track that. Ill take you hour by hour with at rifle of the storm coming up. Mike, youre looking at oakland to see some improvement on the roads. We can kind of see that, kari. Ill stay clear, the lanes are filled in. The metering lights were turned on at the regular time because of an early crash in San Francisco. Look at the movement in the middle, we see over here the lanes off to the left a little bit lighter. The movement here fastrak improved over the last half hour if youve been with us for the stretch. We watch for the subtle signs. The backup was caused because of a crash and debris fremont street. That has cleared and so has the rest of the approach. Were running about 40 to 50 of normal in terms of our water year, so we have another storm coming in and its great news. It hasnt yet arrived as we see the storm still well to the north of us, but lets time it out today. Here we are seeing a lot of clouds through early afternoon. Here we are at 3 00, were just starting to see that rain approaching ukiah, and then quickly spreading into the north bay by 5 00 to 6 00. Then for the rest of the bay area, the rain kind of holds off until later not reaching san jose possibly until 9 00 to just after 9 00 tonight, as we get that rain shadow effect but still looking at some waves of rain coming in, even into tomorrow afternoon, and where we do see that rain it may be heavy, but the possibility of some thunderstorms and the winds are going to be high, all throughout this time that we are going to see this rain falling and we take you through sunday morning, still some waves of rain coming in, but it will start to taper off as we head throughout the day on sunday. So we are going to have some significant rainfall totals. For more on that we head to vianey arana, going to give us a look at what were expecting here. Thats right. You took them through the time of the rain but how much rain are we expected to see in the bay area . Its not right now but as we head in toward saturday and sunday if we could pop up some of the rain totals i could give you a good idea. To the north bay threeplus inches for ukiah, santa rosa, napa and of course some of the closer areas to San Francisco will see a little over two inches. Down there we go down through the ben lomand Area Santa Cruz talking three inches of rainfall and wondering about the south bay if you live in san jose just a little over an inch, in through palo alto a little over an inch as well as San Francisco. Expect to see higher rainfall totals up through the north bay and the Santa Cruz Mountains but remember this time line is taking you through sunday. Heaviest rain through overnight and tomorrow. Kari will take you through your sevenday forecast. Kari . Well see the rain throughout the weekend and as we go into next week we will start to see our weather drying out. Definitely great news with upper 50s and low 60s. It will be cool but after a soggy weekend, youll have a chance to put up the Christmas Decorations and head toment so of t toment so of the plateses, christmas in the park and tree lightings after sunday. Mike, youve been watching the morning commute. How is it looking . Were staying optimistic, fingers crossed and we are getting some of our wishes if youre using them on the bay bridge this holiday season. We see a lighter flow of traffic, starting to ease up with the backup. That trend which is counter your typical, because its friday with the lighter commute, look at the approach. We have nice easy drive coming in on all of the sensors. The early backup caused by a crash in the 5 00 hour and that cleared long ago. The debris caused the backup and now theres no problems on the approach for Contra Costa County coming in through the area as far as the traffic flow. We have crashes highway 4 eastbound at lone tree and crash highway 113 at 112. Fog may be a factor as well. Well talk about that in a second. Waze predicts you have until 1 30 for the commute to start to build and it will kick in getting out to sacramento and toward the sierra.
