Reporter but the community is rallying around tom and his wife, buying sweatshirts and making donations. Tom is having a new chiller brought in to make ice and hopes to reopen by wednesday. But for now, tom is not focused on the vandals who melted his ice, but the community that melted his heart. Marianne favro, nbc bay area news. In the east bay, police are looking for two masked gunman who shot a 30yearold man to death inside his pittsburgh home. The shooting happened early yesterday morning, on the 200 block of havenwood circle. Thats in the oak hills neighborhood on the far west end of pittsburgh. Police say it pears the shooter and the victim did know one another. Well, with the deadly gilroy garlic festival shooting still fresh in their minds, people turned out for a Gun Buyback Program in that city to help keep their Community Safe and to help it heal. Today in the bays roz plater was there. Reporter the first gun buyback in south Santa Clara County in 25 years and Law Enforcement agencies werent sure what kind of response theyd get. We had over 70 cars waiting by the time we opened at 9 00 a. M. Within the first hour, we had already given out 20,000. Reporter for many, the recent mass shooting so close to home inspired them to get rid of guns, some they inherited, before those weapons fell into the wrong hands. Its been in the garage for over 30 years, just sitting there. And when you think about it, once or twice a year and dont do anything about it. We dont know anything about guns. This gave us an opportunity to do something about it. It feels really good. We just didnt want it in the house. We dont know anything about guns. Reporter the buyback process was anonymous, no questions asked. Officers checked to see if any of the guns were lost or stolen. If not, theyll be destroyed. And most importantly, off the streets. To speak with chotuck todd and t a preview of this weeks meet the press. Plus, apple is offering employees a new perk. How it could help some people get a leg up on their health. Welcome back. We are joined here in the studio with our political analyst, larry gursten. And we turn to washington, d. C. To talk to chuck todd, moderator of meet the press. As always, thanks for joining us this morning. Happy to. Thank you. Chuck, the house, as most people likely will know by now, the house will vote this week on two articles of impeachment against the president. Abuse of power and obstruction of congress. What do you think we should expect to come next . Honestly, i think we all kind of know whats going to come next. And i think thats sort of the weird place that we are. This feels like it should be it should be a heavier moment than perhaps were all treating it. But in some ways, i think that may be because the country may be a bit exhausted from all of this. But at the end of the day, even the two congressional leaders, nancy pelosi for the democrats, Mitch Mcconnell for the republicans, both of them now, you can tell, they sort of have one eye on november and only one eye on impeachment. They seem to be both a bit leery of impeachment backfiring on them, so what are they doing . Being very careful. They cut a bunch of deals. My god, congress has never been so functional in the last week. They agreed on a bunch of spending bills without a continuing resolution or any of that. They agreed on a trade agreement. And i think its because theyre both worried that they could get punished if they either get bogged down too much in impeachment or dont take it seriously enough. Thats why mcconnells trying to have a trial of some length, but not too long, right . And why pelosi kept it narrow on the articles and wants the trade agreement voted on after impeachment. Its like a political house of cards. Chuck a little bit. Lets assume that House Democrats vote to impeach President Trump without a single republican vote, likely. To what extent would that outcome help the republican claim that the impeachment effort is nothing more than, you know, what im going to say, a partisan witch hunt . We believe looll, look, i do that is what politically the president has accomplished since this inquiry started. I think the first two or three weeks, it seemed plausible that this could get bipartisan, even if narrowly atr is, look at how tribal our politics are, right . We have the democratic lawmaker from new jersey, looks like shes going to switch parties over impeachment. Weve already had a republican member of Congress Switch parties over impeachment in justin amash. But think about this, neither partys tent is big enough to essentially allow a member of their tribe to disagree with them on impeachment. Right . This democrat is leaving because he was going to get hammered. He was already vulnerable to a primary challenge on the left for not supporting the inquiry. And justin amash was going to get hammered on the republican primary for being for essentially supporting an impeachment inquiry, and he supported it after the mueller report. But neither political figure felt like they could stay a member of the party that they had been in order to stay in congress. I think that tells you a lot about how tribal our politics are. Yeah. Looking into the future a little bit, four more democratic debates are scheduled for next january and february. Assuming the Senate Trump Impeachment trial in january, what impact might this have on the democratic president ial candidates, sitting with their Senate Colleagues as jurors, while the rest of the democratic field are free to campaign . Well, look, i dont know how much of a you know, there was a time where you thought, boy, do you want to cede iowa to your opponents if youre elizabeth warren, amy klobuchar, bernie sande sanders, you know, three of the highertiered candidates that will be participating, theres another senator, michael bennet, as well. But if all of the political world will be focused on the senate trial, it could serve as an opportunity for sanders, warren, or klobuchar or bennett to possibly make a point. But it also could be fraught with peril, too. So ill be curious to see how warren, klobuchar, and sanders try to make lemonade out of being stuck in that senate trial. Or whether they just try to try a do no harm strategy here. I actually think this trial will be over by Martin Luther king weekend and not really leaving a good tenday sprint for the caucuses as it is, chsht hawhic shouldnt have much of an impact. Well see in about a months time. Chuck todd, as always, we really appreciate your insight. Be sure to join chuck for this mornings memeet the press. Hell have exclusive interviews with senator pat toomey and senator chris coons. Be sure to stay right here, wed appreciate it. Meet the press is on at 8 00 a. M. Right after this newscast. And as always, larry will be back in about 40 minutes for our weekly political segment. We will take a look. This is really interesting, i think, into the world that gender may play when it comes to impeachment and the 2020 elections. So larry, well see you soon for that. Thanks so much. Turning to other news now, apple employees can now get free genetic screenings for diseases at Onsite Health clinics. Apple has partnered with color jeonomics in cupertino with a pilot program. Apple recently set up clinics near their headquarters known as ac wellness for employees and their dependents. The idea is to be more proactive than reactive at apples clinics. Genetic testing can often detect likely health risks in the future and in some cases, patients can take preventive steps to reduce their chances of getting a disease. Turning to weather, a Winter Weather advisory in the sierra, more snow is coming and thats good news for skiers. Skiers and snowboarders, too. They were out on the slopes at sugar bowl ski resort. All other ski resorts this well this weekend. Parts of the sierra got 12 inches of snow friday night. Resorts are thankful for how quickly things changed for the better. Of 13 lifts, we have 11 of 13 lifts open and its just wild that a few weeks ago, we had no snow on the ground at all and now were fully open. Reporte that man says conditions this good usually arent expected until later in the season. Perfect timing to check in with vianey with a look at our sunday forecast. We usually dont see that until january, right . For the snow. But now were in fullblown rainy season, we actually, you know, have seen a pretty rainy december so far. And its not going to stop. I have more storms im tracking on the way. Lets take you through them. Heres a beautiful view of some cotton candy skies over the Golden Gate Bridge, and thats all thanks to that colder system thats passing by that brought those showers last night. And we are anticipating a much drier sunday, but because of the system that passed by behind it, its leaving behind a little bit of a chill. Look at santa rosa. 35 degrees. Napa, 36. Down through san jose, 44 degrees. And oakland, 49. Now, if youre going to be out and about for today, i also want to show you this comparison, if youre foigoing to be traveling how were looking compared to the rest of the nation. I think this is a great comparison so you know how your relatives are doing. Look how minneapolis is doing, 2 degrees. Chicago is at 20 degrees. And in through the east coast, were actually a little bit colder than the east coast. New york city right now is at 46 degrees. Were at about 44 degrees. So its colder, we have dipped down into the 30s already here locally. Satellite radar right now, you can see, its pretty calm. We have a little bit of that instability just off that coast. That can bring the chance of a couple of isolated areas of drizzle. But this is what were paying attention to in our next round of rain. Weve got a couple of systems developing just off the coast, and thats going to move on in right for the middle of the workweek. Now, as we head into our microclimate highs for the afternoon, breezy conditions, temperatures in the 50s. 57 degrees for san jose and then were just going to stay in that 50s range. But i want to show you, we just talked about the sierra, a live look right now at South Lake Tahoe using our Weather Underground cameras. Look how beautiful this is, 14 degrees. This is a little bit high in elevation, but a little bit lower. When you look at this Beautiful Image with these beautiful cabins and a little bit higher up the mountain, this is what it looks like at heavenly lake tahoe using our undergrounder weather camera. It gives you an idea of why they had that winter storm warning in place. That has expired as of this morning, but we could still be dealing with some dangerous driving conditions so look out for that as well. The break from the rain will bring frosty mornings into monday. And looking ahead into tuesday and wednesday, there goes that next system. The one i showed you on radar thats just off the coast. This system right now looks like it could split, which may mean it may not be as widespread or as much rain as were anticipating right now. But still enough that once it hits the land, you saw it there, it kind of splits, which means not widespread, but it could still bring the area of rain from north to south. And looking just out ahead from thursday into the weekend, which also happens to be the weekend right before christmas eve. We get north bay rain at times, south by saturday. This is our next system. This one, its still pretty far out. Were goingery closely. But for now, thats what were looking at. Over the next seven days, a chilly start tomorrow. Could dip down to some low 30s early in the morning. By tuesday, well get that increase in cloud cover and tuesday night into wednesday is when that next system is expected to roll around. And yet again, were tracking yet another system, this one moving in by friday with north bay showers, rain more likely heading into next saturday. Kira, rain is in full swing. Rain, rain will not go away. All right. Vianey, thanks. It is 7 21 right now. And we do have much more ahead on today in the bay. Coming up, her dream came true. She became a youtube sensation before her untimely death. Well tell
