We are going to see also along with that patchy fog some very cold temperatures, upper 30s there in parts of the trivalley. Well get a look at more of our microclimates and talk about some rain coming up as we head through the week and mike, youre checking in at the bay bridge. Were looking over here the bay bridge trafficologist as i am, a lighter commute, as we talked about the morning commute will be here but it will be different than your typical monday. We have folks reporting to work but over the last ten minutes seen the cash lanes ease up a bit because some of the remaining cash lanes have opened. The earlier crash still on the offramp there as you get toward san pablo past highway 4 but the freeway itself moves smoothly. Thanks so much. Back to that breaking news an air force veteran fighting back overnight in can cloud cover county, after Armed Robbers stormed his convenience store. This morning one of the robbers is dead. Today in the bays athom jensen is live in bay point and we want to warn our viewers they may find the video were about to show disturbing. Hi, tom. Reporter good morning. Yes, and this happened just about 11 00 last night. I want to set this up and warn viewers about that video, because it does show this robbery taking place. So stick with us on this video. Were going to let it roll a little bit but youre going to see a robbery in place, youre going to see this veteran, working as a clerk in the store, get pistol whipped by the gunmen. One goes to the back and holds a manager at gunpoint while the other one goes around the corner in the store here and robs the clerk and thats what youre going to see in the video right now. Give me everything. Ow [ bleep ] [ bleep ] [ bleep ] [ bleep ] hurry. Dont move. Dtsa got a gun, bro. Reporter now you saw both of those gunmen run out the door, the one in the light gray coat who had the manager in the back and the one in the black coat where you saw that white flash, thats where that air force veteran, the clerk in the store, fired a shot with a. 9 millimeter, using a hollow point round and hit that robber in the back. He did make it all the way out of the store. This is not confirmed by the Contra Costa CountySheriffs Department, which is on the scene, but confirmed by the stores owner who has interviewed both the clerk and the manager. The gunman, the robber who was shot just died around the corner from the store in the parking lot here. The medical Examiners Office and sheriffs detectives are still on the scene. Again, theyre not confirming exactly what happened but you can see what goes down, the two men come in about 11 00, they hold up this store and only one of them gets away. Theyre still searching for that second gunman. Detectives not confirming this right now but we hope to get more information later on today from Public Information officer at the Contra Costa CountySheriffs Department. Members of congress are back home for the holiday week but the battle over impeachment rages on this morning, interest surrounding one possible witness is growing. Nashville police are looking for three men and one woman seen in this Surveillance Video for questioning. One man wanted for questioning is 23yearold michael mosley. Right here in the section of highway 101 were looking good. It is very cool out there with some low 30s in parts of the north bay. Were down to 33 degrees right now in santa rosa, livermore 38 degrees, and san jose 42 and its 37 in Half Moon Bay and the sevenday forecast is up at the bottom of the screen, as we look at our morning start in antioch. Were going to see some clouds moving by at times, some patches of fog. Temperatures in the low 40s, and a slow climb in those temperatures only about 52 degrees at noon today. If youre headed out shopping in the trivalley maybe trying to get some of the lastminute deals youll see temperatures there only reaching into the low 50s today, so you may be wearing that coat and lugging it around to all the stores all throughout the day. Now at least we have dry conditions and we dont have to bring along the umbrella. We are going to see some light snow showers still continuing for parts of the sierra. A love the heavier rain moving across parts of Southern California from l. A. Down to san diego, well be watching that, moving away from our area as we go into the day and our rain moving in on christmas, still well off to the west, it will get her late Christmas Eve. You can see the main being air lifted from the water with a tourniquet wrapped around his leg. He is expected to be okay. This morning, a man is behind bars in connection to a shooting in chicago that left 13 injured. It happened at a house party early yesterday morning. Police say people had gathered for a memorial for someone who was killed back in april. The Chicago Police chief said cameras in the area showed two men firing weapons during a fight. A second person of interest in the shooting is among the wounded. Investigators are saying this morning that fog and icy conditions may have played a role in this 69car pileup. This happened yesterday Morning State Police confirm at least 51 people were treated and transported. Two people have lifethreatening injuries it may takeqqxoz days for th to get back to normal at Sacramento International airport. Internet problems over the weekend forced Flight Cancellations and delays. At t says a crash knocked over some of its cables, causing the internet outages at the airport. Again another warning as we look in the store where Contra Costa County sheriffs detectives are still on the scene this morning along with the medical Examiners Office and again, a warning this video youll see the robbers come into the store, this was at about 11 00 last night, as we roll the video. One goes to the back in the light gray coat and holds a manager at gunpoint while the other one comes around the corner, pointing a gun at the clerk. [ bleep ] [ bleep ] reporter you can see the air force veteran hit mark with the gun, and then goes for the Cash Register and is taking money out of the Cash Register, when the clerk reaches for a drawer. Watch the drawer just by the Cash Register there, as Mark Kasowitz reaches up and tries to pull a gun as the robber is still getting the cash out. There he goes for the gun and you can see him then wrestle for that gun, the robber and kasowitz. You saw the flight flash, where the clerk fired back at the robbery suspect and you see he does run out of the store after being shot and gets around the corner, and then dies outside the store, just around the corner. You can see the manager come up and check on the clerk, on Mark Kasowitz to make sure he is okay. After talking to mr. Kasowitz, hea d5 is feeling okay, a littlt sore. His head was opened up with a gash from being pistol whipped. He went to the hospital, he got a couple of staples in the head and he said the adrenalin is still pumping. Ozig right now butkp detectives ar still on the scene. We saw them going over where i gun go off, the a ususpects o off right before mr. Kasowitz fired his shot but a the gun off a safety or something, was having trouble with it. Off, he started running, and the3 n8z clerk shot him aga. The Contra Costa County scene. Eiahp hc this. They have not confirmed any of this. Hahp hc talking to the clerk, and talking to the stores owner out here this morning, who said that one gunman got away, and the Sheriffs Department is still searching for him gem and mr. N n fully recover but quite sore in in and ver but quite sore also about 20 years after he got out of the military working in Security Services so he said that came to his aid. He said he was feeling not afraid for the manager who was in the back of the store at gunpoint. We no idea there was even two people in the store until he heard the suspect who pistol whipped him say hey hes got a gun and thats when he thought there must be somebody else in here also with a gun and said he had to protect himself and the manager and thats why he fired that shot. This is a Holiday Shopping nightmare, Police Say Two men shoved a woman to the ground and dragged her across the parking lot while trying to steal her purse, happened 11 00 yesterday morning at the walmart in fremont. Police say the attackers got away with her purse and took off in a black bmw. The woman was scraped up but not badly hurt. Happening today, Sonoma County supervisors are set to tackle the issue of a growing homeless encampment. The camp along highway 12 in west santa rosa is growing controversial. More than 200 people are living there currently. Supervisors could approve a plan to send 12 million on potential solutions, but even the fastest fixes are months away. Community leaders are calling it a Public Health emergency. Today marks an important decision regarding the future of the oakland coliseum, the Alameda County board of supervisors is set to vote on approving a deal to sell its half interest in the coliseum complex to the oakland athletics. The move gives the as a fallback petition if the proposed stadium on Howard Terminal falls through. Supervisor nate miley says its the best option for the city of oakland. The city lost two professional sports teams so i think it would be in the Public Interest and public good to secure one team to remain in the city. I think this is going to be a win win for everyone. Supervisor miley predicts the proposal will pass. The as have six months to review the purchase before the sale is finalized. As the raiders gear up to move to Las Vegas Next season fans are saying they wont be able to see their team play. They say theyre priced out. Agents is spreading fear among the immigrant community in l. A. County. 23yearold Daniella Ramirez was taken into custody early friday morning at the Marriott Hotel where she works. Ramirez and her sister came to california from mexico when she was just 10 years old. Both became Daca Recipients but ramirez didnt renew her status two years ago out of fear. She heard from somebody she is not supposed to renew it because they will send her to jail. No criminal record, nothing, just living, you know, wanting to live the american dream. She was always worried that because of the trump administration. Within the past year, i. C. E. Has started reopening closed cases against Daca Recipients without criminal records. Acting i. C. E. Press secretary brian d. Cox released a statement which read in part, this is not new or specific to daca. That said, all cases that were formally administratively closed are being recalendared. Coast guard records show eight diving boats in the state were given exemptions from the 1996 Safety Standards rule which means they didnt need to add bigger escape hatches and advance Fire Prevention systems. No word from the coast guard as to why. Federal investigators are still looking into the dive boat fire. This holiday season. This is a delivery truck full of packages on fire, just days before christmas at the beginning of hanukkah. This happened over the weekend in fullerton, south of los angeles. No word on what sparked that fire. New this morning, the u. S. Department of housing and urban Development Released its report on homelessness and found homelessness in the u. S. Increased nearly 3 . One of the biggest reasons why is california. The study found that more than 21,000 people in california became homeless this year. Thats a 16 increase from last year. Better numbers were seen across the nation, 29 states, in fact, saw a decrease in their homeless population. One of the bay areas largest toy drives is under way. For us, our next chance of rain comes in late Christmas Eve into Christmas Day, as that storm system arrives, as we time it out, looking dry today as well as much of the day tomorrow. But then going into late tomorrow night, we start to see that rain reaching in to the coast, and spreading inland, with some cooler temperatures. Notice this area here the snow will most likely be over mt. Hamilton and north bay peaks and elevations above 3,000 feet and going into Christmas Day, well start to see that rain tapering off. This will bring us some additional light amounts of rain anywhere from about a quarter inch of rain to closer to half inch of rain for parts of the south bay. As we go into the rest t forecast, well be drying out. Were looking good after Christmas Day and temperatures reaching the mid50s. The United Airlines plane was traveling the district says theyll need another 1 million to finish repairs. Flaring continues this morning at the valero refinery in benicia. So far the flaring has released about 9,000 pounds of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere. The city says it will notalxc h any affect on the public and the area is not under an advisory. The flaring started friday and will continue for several days while crews perform Maintenance Work on a processing unit. The city says the flaring is a necessary safety precaution.
