Weve got the comfortable spread of temperatures. 60s and 70s bayside and some 80s inland. All this is about to change. Look at the excessive heat watch. Its the area in red. Whats unusual is that its not just the valleys. Its the inner bay. It includes San Francisco. It includes oakland. Its just the coast that is out of this excessive heat watch, which gets started on memorial day monday. Thats going to take us all the way through thursday where valley temperatures have a chance of climbing well through the 90s, maybe close to 100 degrees by midweek. So coming up, well take a look at when those hottest temperatures will arrive and when the cooling kicks back in as we head through the rest of your sevenday forecast coming up in about eight minutes. Thanks very much. It was a tragic story that gripped santa cruz and the entire bay area. An 8yearold girl murdered. The suspect accused in her death, a teenager. Still ahead, reopening Sonoma County. The county pushing further ahead to kickstart businesses. A lot of people wondering what can you do, what cant you do. Were going to break it down for you. And a special celebration for a group of south bay graduates. How these College Grads celebrated while social distancing. And they did it legally. The weathers perfect. Family is all together and we switched to geico; saved money on our boat insurance. How could it get any better than this . Dad, i just caught a goldfish theres no goldfish in this lake. Whoa its pure gold. Were gonna be rich. Were gonna be rich it only gets better when you switch and save with geico. Thousands of people turned out at the State Capitol today to demand california reopen for business and quickly. The demonstration was dubbed liberty fest. It attracted all types of protesters. There were donald trump supporters, antivaccination advocates. Many just wanted to be able to reopen their businesses asap. As you can see, many of those who came, they were not following social distancing protocols. Some were not Wearing Masks. Police closed off the street to traffic and monitored the event from a distance. Today was the first day of an expanded phase two in Sonoma County. Restaurants can now serve diner can do wine tastings. However, many businesses told us they are still working out the kinks before inviting customers back in. Sonoma is the third bay area county to reach expanded phase two. Napa and solano counties were approved for that status earlier this week. The easing of covid19 restrictions in santa clara came just in time for graduates. Graduates got to join a loud, raucous, but still safe graduation celebration in this alviso neighborhood. It was complete with a mariachi band, family members cheering from passing cars. The grads were supposed to walk across the stage yesterday, but obviously those kind of ceremonies are canceled with covid19. Luckily yesterday Santa Clara County lifted its restriction on these driveby celebrations, allowing todays car parade to happen. And it was the best day of the next four days really to have an outdoor celebration. Right, rob . Yeah. You know, we have still some comfortable temperatures outside. As you mentioned, terry, for those outdoor plans in san jose. But next couple of days as the sevenday forecast shows, were going to be seeing these temperatures really taking off. Right now, 73. A bit breezy in san jose. Highs earlier in the 80s. San francisco, briefly in the 70s but a cool sea breeze still at work at 60 currently. Well take you inland out towards walnut creek. This will be one of the spots i think by midweek that will be climbing maybe close to 100 degrees by tuesday and wednesday. Right now its nice for the weekend. 80 degrees after a high of close to 86. You got a spread of temperatures which almost looks a bit more like summer. Youve got 60s bayside, 70s to mid80s inland, and the onshore winds, the ocean airconditioning as we like to say, its still on. Obviously the winds are onshore, but the coolant to that ocean a. C. Is the fog and the low clouds. Notice weve seen that back off along the coast as High Pressure builds in. That marine air is going to get squished down progressively each of the next couple of days, which means the cooling effects of that breeze not going to reach as far inland over the next few days, and youll certainly notice it by the middle part of next week. For the morning, its still pretty nice. You still might need a jacket for the morning with those numbers in the low 50s. For the afternoon, youll notice in our microclimate forecast, zone by zone, were starting to see 90s south of san jose out towards these foothills. South san jose tomorrow pretty close to 90 degrees. Similar story east of 680 from the trivalley heading up towards alamo, blackhawk, concord into antioch, temperatures climbing into the mid90s possible by memorial day. So watch out for that. Peninsula temperatures still mostly in the 70s and 80s. San francisco, again, into the 70s tomorrow. But some 80s just around the corner. For the north bay, santa rosa, sonoma up to the north around ukiah, we will see temperatures tomorrow starting to run into the 90s. So sevenday forecast, you might want to hide your eyes a little bit for the next four days. Up towards yountville temperatures soar close to 100 degrees midweek. Palo alto seeing those temperatures really start to climb on up. We will see upper 90s tuesday and wednesday right now looks to be the hottest as High Pressure should be at its strongest. Second half of the week, we see a sea breeze pick up as this upper level system approaches the coast. Stay tuned. You see the chance of a few showers up here in the north coast. That may involve some lightning strikes and after four to five days of near record temperatures inland, well have to watch that, i think, a little bit maybe for some fire danger next weekend. But for the end of this memorial day weekend, look at that. Thats not the inland sevenday forecast. Thats San Francisco. Mid80s midweek. Warmest day appears to be towards wednesday, and there you see valleys soaring through the upper 90s to near 100 degrees midweek. So recordbreaking temperatures likely headed this way, possibly air pollution issues as well. Well have a closer look at that as this heat spell plays out over the next four days. Terry, back to you. All right, rob. Thanks very much. Still ahead, the new epicenter for the coronavirus. Tonight the one country thats seeing a surge of cases amid this pandemic. The World Health Organization has named south america the new epicenter of the covid19 pandemic. Infections and deaths are surging there, especially in brazil, which now has more than 330,000 confirmed cases. Thats more than any other country except the united states. In a sense, south america has become a new epicenter for the disease. Weve seen many south american countries with increasing numbers of cases, and clearly theres a concern across many of those countries. Brazil saw more than 1,000 deaths in the past 24 hours. More than 4,500 in the past four days. Brazils Health Care System is showing signs of stress. However, the countrys president is referring to the coronavirus as, quote, a little flu. Its the unofficial start to summer and a memorial day weekend unlike any other. For the first time in months, more americans are venturing out to shops, restaurants, parks, and beaches as states ease stay at home restrictions. Nbcs Chris Pollone has the latest. Reporter this memorial day weekend, more parks, beaches, and businesses are open across the country than have been in months as states try to jump start their ailing economies. Among those getting some r and r over the holiday weekend, president trump, who visited one of his golf courses saturday for the first time in 75 days. But its evident things are still far from normal. This is a whole different environment, a whole different memorial day, a whole different world really that were in. Reporter its the world of covid19, where americans desire to get out of their homes is testing social distancing guidelines designed to slow the virus spread. So dont underestimate this virus. We know that it can rear its ugly head at any moment. Reporter the news is good in new york. The nations hardest hit state, where the number of daily coronavirus deaths dropped to less than 100 for the first time in months. 84 is still a tragedy, no doubt. But the fact that its down as low as it is, is really overall good news. Reporter but infections are still on the rise in some states. Quiet airports and r rdsk it ju yet. I have no anywhere.
