Up where the fire is burning on the ridge, close to the ridge, not a lot of homes so no structures are threatened. We know its bigger than 20 acres, and we dont know what the containment number at this point because the firefight is still ongoing and firefighters have told us theres a potential to hit about 100 acres. We have seen a bulldozer going up the hillside trying to create a fire break so we expect that will help this morning, and we also know that vianey arana and the rest of our team have been watching the fire conditions because of the spike in heat and we did not get as much rain as we were hoping for during the rainy season. C vianey, you have a look at that . Yeah, anytime we see a spike in the heat we get drier conditions and the dry brush works as fuel. We will be quick to climb into the 80s and 90s. Good thing is the wind speeds are fairly calm in that area, between 4 and 6 miles per hour, and at times 10 miles per hour, and a little breezy and we are not expecting the winds to pick up until tomorrow afternoon. As far as the air quality goes, if you are sensitive and you have any conditions you may want to steer clear of that area and keep on that mask. At the bottom of our screen, i have circled a little area above the clock, thats where kris sanchez is showing the fire shes tracking in the silver creek area. Theres smooth traffic despite the fact you may see smoke. At the toll plaza, we do not have a backup. The gates are clear. We may see metering lights over the next half hour if things go according to the pattern we had yesterday, so we will continue to track that as well. Right now we want to get a look at what we can expect from the forecast today. Vianey arana is in for kari. Vianey, certainly a cool down for us and to start moving its way out of the bay area, and this will help improve our air quality as well. We have been moderate, but it will help it over the next couple of days. Beautiful view of San Francisco and low clouds lingering just ahead and for the most part, mild temperatures, and its going to be muggy because of the moisture, and you will notice that if you are up for an earlymorning jog, best time to do it because even though we will be slightly cooler today we will still be hot and above seasonal. For the daytime highs in san jose, 92 degrees, so nearing the triple digits but it will set us up for cooler weather ahead and i will break that down for you coming up in a few minutes, mike. Slowing as you approach the toll plaza, and that means closer to the lights theres a slowdown. Theres no metering lights yet, but i have seen the clues. Good morning and a very happy thursday to you. Thursdays, as you know, is when we get firsttime jobless claims and those numbers were not as good as we had hoped. More people filed for firsttime jobless claims unemployment than we had expected and fewer people came off the rolls than expected, which means hiring and rehiring is going slower than we anticipated. Despite the unease of the economy, the stock market is on an absolute tear. The nasdaq is 2 under its alltime high despite the pandemic and protest. And s p has had its biggest move in history. And look at the stock market now is what President Trump tweeted. As i said many times over the year, the stock market is not the economy and the economy is not the stock market. We measure things like unemployment, and we get the may jobs reports tomorrow, and durable goods, and price index, that sort of things, thats the economy. Yeah, movie houses are pushing movies out on streaming services, but not generating the amount they would. Yeah, you need to buy the concessions. Adds up to a lot of money, all that popcorn. Yeah, Ashton Kutcher gave an example, and when they put their children to bed, his daughter gets to go first and thats because a lot of women dont get to go first, and thats why black lives matter. For us, black lives matter, and so you may have the best intentions by saying all lives matter, but remember for some people black lives dont matter at all. Well said. Seth rogen fired back to all lives matter commenters saying, quote, you dont deserve my movies anymore. End quote. Hopefully that helps. Hopefully that conversation continues and it helps people to understand the perspective there. Yeah. Uplifting one doesnt mean you are not supporting somebody else. The Latino Community, seeing the Younger Generation like my sisters and cousins who are part of the Latin X Community speak to the older generations, and my older uncles and nieces and nephews, seeing the two generations coming together have that conversation is extremely happening and seeing that in the Latino Community is going to make a difference. I am ready for this to be pushed forward in the narrative with latinos as well. Completely. It has to be among all races and cultures. This is the time and now and carry us forward and hopefully carry us in the right direction. I am glad we are talking about it. We cant just allow changes to happen and we tried that and it has not so now we have to force these conversations to be had because they are so important to our every day lives, and thats the lives of everybody. Youre right. Were hoping the temperatures are in the 70s, vianey, and we know when you say cooling, its still in the 90s, right . Yeah, today we will see another day in the 90s but eventually we will get to the 70s. I juan pt to shwant to show you over san jose. Theres a brushfire burning in evergreen, so if you are part of the sensitive groups when it comes to sensitivity, and overall the air should improve as the High Pressure moves out of the area. High pressure tends to trap the hot air mass over the bay area. Oakland, 58. San francisco, 55. The 24hour temperature change is thanks to an onshore flow bringing more moisture to the area. Were still going to see another hot day, at least that heat advisory was allowed to expire last night. Look at the daytime highs, 88 in palo alto. 98 in concord. Still livermore comfortable around the coast. You have mother natures ac, of course. And the long range out look, we have two nearby systems that will bring a much better air mass and it will bring isolated rain chances into sunday and monday, and then looking out ahead to tuesday and wednesday we get High Pressure that is rolling backrohe 90s. Another note to mention as cool it will kick up the winds. Gusty at times, especially heading into sunday and into sunday night as well. Ill send it over to you. Vianey, i will take the cooler temperatures and breeze because i dont care for the 90s, and i am just putting that in there for my order. Well, looking at the roadways, and we are looking at a bigger built, slight, but its building. Smoke on highway 101, theres the hills in silver creek where theres a fire. 92 westbound where the arrow is across the san mateo bridge, theres reports of a disabled vehicle. We have a camera on the hayward side, and lets look out there and i dont see a major problem, but i see on the right side things are beginning to slow a slowing abit, and you could have the metering lights turned on in the next few minutes, but for now just the fast track lanes. Thank you, mike. This morning we are definitely keeping the conversation going. We have with us tyler gordon and his mom, and not only is he a great artist but he is taking a stance during this trying time, and also what moved tyler to make such a powerful statement at just 14 years old. Welcomek. Its 6 23 for you this morning. In the wake of George Floyds death, heartfelt tributes celebrating his legacy coming from everywhere, including a 14yearold. Dear george, you dont know me, but i know you. You were a father, you were a son, you were a brother and you were a nephew, and you are loved. What you are seeing there is my letter to mr. George. Joining us this morning to talk about his artwork is tyler gordon along with his nicole kendall. I want to thank you both for join tyler, i want to start b congratulating you on your global award. Tyler received the global award and only 100 kids in the world receive this award, so congratulations to you. Thank you. I saw your painting as well as your message as you called it my message to george. What made you do that, not only draw george floyd but give that message with it . I chose to give that message because he didnt deserve what happened to him so i wrote that message to say how i feel about it and how it was not okay. I think its touching sma people. Nicole, i know for a mother i have to explain to your child what is going on, and i dont know if you saw the video, but a lot of people are seeing what happened there, and how do you talk to your child about what is going on . Its difficult to have that conversation with your child, and tyler brought the video to me, he saw it over social media and he was just sitting on the bed saying, why are they doing this . What is wrong . At that moment i had to have the conversation with him and let him know that sometimes in the world stuff like this happens and theres no good reason why. I know you said you had the conversation, and i think that is one many black families have throughout the country, and had you all talked about race and injustice before now . No, we have not seen too much of it geared towards us, really. You know, as a mom, i try to shield my children from stuff like that, but with everything going on now there was no way i had to do it and have that conversation. Before we leave, what message do you give to many parents right now who are also dealing with this from all walks of life . How do you start that conversation with children . To start off, i just would tell them basically to be honest with your children, to let them know that there are real problems going on in the world and just to keep them involved and informed, and thats the only way we can get through this. All right, nicole kendall, as well as tyler, and you know i am a big fan of yours so keep inspiring the world with your work. Thank you, i will. Look, we want to continue this conversation. We are going to continue it right here on nbc bay area tonight at 6 30. Its called race in america the conversation, and we are devoting an entire hour to exploring the racial divide in the country, and the conversations being had in households and why that conversation has to continue in order to create and start change. Jessica aguirre awell as myself are leading this conversation, and we want you to be part of it as well. Mack su make sure you tune in tonight at 6 30. And then next, the stories we are following today. Large crowds coming together and their message last night and new rallies planned for today. I am kris sanchez in san joses evergreen neighborhood where the smoke is starting to die down, but look at the overnight pictures. A look at what could be a difficult fire season. Right now at 6 30, breaking news. A brushfire burning right now in the south bay. We have new video from overnight. It certainly has grown in size. Good morning to you and thanks so much for joining us. I am laura garcia. I am marcus washington. Lets get straight to kris sanchez in southeast san jose with the latest for us. Kris . Reporter hi, there. The most worry some thing about this fire at this point is it points to what could be happening as temperatures continue to rise. This is a neighborhood off Silver Creek Valley road and san felipe road. A bulldozer went up this way and firefighters tell us the fire is at least 20 acres at this point but has the potential to grow to about 100 acres. The good news here is its far enough away from neighborhoods there are no structures or homes or buildings threatened at this point, but because we saw the spike in temperature and we know summer is coming theres concern over fire danger, especially since we did not get the kind of rain we were supposed to get during the rainy season. We will stay out here live in san jose, and it looks like its largely under control. Theres no smoke so thats a good sign from here. Kris sanchez for today in the bay. Thanks, kris. 6 32 for you this morning, and we want to give you a look at the forecast, and vianey arana has been showing us what we can expect today. Vianey, the temperatures are going to be a little cooler today . Yeah. Hey, there, marcus. Right now were in the 60s so were waking up to pretty warm temperatures, and its even a little muggy outside. I want to start out with a look at the temperature in evergreen, because thats an area where the brushfire is, and three f
