Taking a look at those danger zones we have throughout the bay area because of the red flag warning. Kari . Yes, in the north bay mountains well have a red flag warning in effect for today. It continues until 8 00 this evening, and with the very dry conditions weve seen, along with the high winds, we will have that high fire danger for today for all of these areas that are shaded in red. So these are the areas well have to watch as the winds possibly gust over 50 miles an hour once again for today. We will start out with those temperatures very mild, but then it will warm up in some parts of the bay area. A few of us will hit back up to 90 degrees for those high temperatures while the south bay will be in the low 80s. Well talk about the range in temperatures and whats ahead coming up in the full microclimate forecast. Mike, youve been watching the roads. Any issues early this morning . The freeways are moving smoothly. I do have to start out with some very sad news out of the Contra Costa County area. Well take you to our maps where you see all greens and the major highways are at speed with minor areas for construction, but we are looking over to byron highway as youre coming by clifton court. If you know where that is, youll know where this accident happens off the roadway. Someone has died as a result of the crash and i believe theyve been taken from the scene. Theres still an investigation between byron and 580 as youre heading down to vasco but not on vasco. The Santa Rosa Fire Department is one of several departments in Sonoma County ready to go with the red flag warning that kari was talking about. Many departments have added extra staff this is video of the Santa Rosa Fire Department. They tweeted this out of the crews getting trucks ready. Santa rosa has an extra engine and battalion chief ready to go tonight. It has been a very busy past 24 hours for fire crews across the bay area and beyond. Those strong wins fanning flames on the Altamont Pass near livermore. It started about 8 00 last night. 30 acres were charred before it was contained. It didnt stop there for the firefighters. There was a fire in lake port near clear lake area. Those evacuations were needed there. Firefighters spent the overnight hours putting out those hot spots. Well, did you hear the sound of illegal fireworks over the weekend . Most likely. Its what firefighters say caused a two and a half acres to burn in the observing hills. It happened near Howard Elementary School and 580. It took more than 50 firefighters to put it out. Luckily no one was hurt and no but were already seeing all these problems. The chp is investigating the discovery of a shooting victim near a homeless encampment. Officers responded yesterday afternoon to a person they found shot near south king road off ramp just right off interstate 680. The chp says the pedestrian was shot in the face. Lets check out concord and the way our morning looks for us, it looks pretty nice with some upper 50s to start, and then as we go through the day it starts the warmup although it will be a hot afternoon, at least we do have a few hours of some more comfortable weather. Then we look at the spread in temperatures well have today from the upper 60s near the coast. San francisco reaching 71 degrees. We do still see some of those upper 80s and low 90s for parts of the north bay as well as the east bay. The south bay will reach into the mid80s today in morgan hill with downtown san jose only up to 81 degrees. So well feel nice there but not so nice will be the high winds that will continue to gust today. And for all of these areas shaded in red, this includes our elevations above 1,000 feet, this is where our winds will gust possibly over 50 Miles Per Hour today. We have that along with some hot temperatures and low humidity below about 10 to 20 , so thats going to give us a high fire danger for today as we look at our wind speed forecast. We are seeing those winds as we head toward 4 00 to 5 00, anywhere from 30 to 40 Miles Per Hour and then even higher as you go up in elevation. So with that we are still going to have the high fire danger for today but then the winds start to calm down for tonight. After that were in for some nice weather for the rest of the week. We are going to see our temperatures inland cooling off. Only mid70s by thursday, but then it will start to warm up in time for the fourth of july which is, of course, this upcoming week. Mike, youve been watching the Early Morning commute with a couple of problem spots already. Thats right, kari. Nothing really stopping the freeway traffic, but i do want to point this out because flashing lights, you will encounter that. To the latest of the man accused of crashing his car into people and shooting others at a walmart distribution center. Sheriffs investigators say the suspect was fired last year from the job at the same center near red bluff south of redding. Louis lane was let go in february of 2019. This is after failing to show up to work. Authorities say that lane crashed his car into that building and then opened fire with a semiautomatic rifle. Investigators say lane killed one man and injured four others before officers shot and killed him. And new for you this morning bay area Charter Schools received at least 40 million from the coronavirus federal relief program. The sf chronicle investigated that money after being tipped off by the Group Parents united for Public Schools and in the public interest. The chronicle found that 14 Charter Schools and chains in oakland and eight other Charter Schools in Santa Clara County received about 40 million. At least two of those schools in San Francisco received more than 600,000. Some are wondering if the schools should have even gotten that money, which was meant to help Small Businesses stay afloat during the pandemic. New this morning the plan is to put more officers on foot patrol in San Francisco are being put on hold. Supervisors were hoping to get voters to approve funding this november, but as Police Departments here and across the country reexamine policing, supervisors are putting a pause on that ballot measure. Recent events are reigniting the push to rename Orange Countys john wayne airport. Supervisors there named the airport after the iconic actor in 1979 shortly after his death. But on Orange County Democratic Party leaders approved a renaming resolution citing his controversial white supremacist statement in a playboy interview in 1971. His son had previously said the comments were taken out of context. It would be up to the current supervisors to make that final decision.
