Thanks, vianey. As the bay area prepares for the fourth of july weekend, many places are shutting down their beaches to limit the spread of covid19. Take a look at this map. These are all the counties in the yellow like sonoma, marin, santa cruz county. Well, all of the beach parking lots will be closed. The beaches are open but county leaders are encouraging people to stay home. Take a look at these counties in the red. Monterey county, Half Moon Bay, pacifica, these are the places the city and state beaches, and the beaches parking lots, all closed. Now we want to talk with Cierra Johnson who is in pacifica where the parking lots will be closed and still the mayor is expecting people might try to show up. Good morning, cierra. Reporter righter who at pacifica beach, all is quiet. It is typically packed for the Holiday Weekend. But starting today until sunday, the parking lots here will be closed in an attempt to reduce that spread of the coronavirus. As we all know is on its way up. The parking areas at pacifica beach will be closed, but the beaches will be open to local residents to walk or bike. Congregating is not allowed and those on the beach must follow social distancing guidelines. In monterey they are taking things a step further closing all beaches and parking. Earlier this week governor gavin newsom made the move to close parking lots to stop people from crowding the area citing family gatherings as major spreaders of the virus. Local leaders hope the move is enough to stop the spread. As those people meet and sometimes alcohol gets involved, and weve noticed as people consume alcohol, masks become less previous dent. Reporter and back out here live several of the beaches will have police and city workers patrolling the areas to enforce those closures or some of the partial closures. The marp of Half Moon Bay says visitors defying the orders will first get a warning and the second occurrence they will receive a fine. We want to bring in today in the bays jackie ward in Contra Costa County where a scary situation that could unfold, fires. Weve been talking about that a lot, and it really has to do with the illegal fireworks. Jackie, what is the warning going up for people this morning . Reporter people have been hearing the illegal fireworks shows for months now, no matter where you live. Here in Contra Costa County any fireworks you set off yourself is illegal. Last month in Contra Costa County alone the number of fires quadrupled over the same time last year. In the past 36 hours there have been at least seven vegetation fires. At least half of them started by illegal fireworks. Its a loud and potentially dangerous trend that fire officials want to put a stop to. Those fireworks now, even how innocuous they might seem is a chance to start a devastating, deadly, property destroying wildfire. Reporter Fire Protection says its upstaffing and theyll have one or two in addition to their normal crews. They anticipate they will be busy. Fire Officials Say if history repeats itself they expect to be tackling up to 50 vegetation fires starting today through sunday. Discovery bay, jackie ward, today in the bay. All right, jackie, thank you. Despite more sththan 50,000 cases confirmed just yesterday, President Trump plans to travel to mt. Rushmore today to hold a massive fireworks display. That event is taking place despite a decades long ban on pyrotechni pyrotechnics. They have signs throughout the park urging visitors to wear mask coverings and to follow social distancing rules. Leaders plan to protest the president s visit. Happening today protests are not only going on for the president s visit but also here in the bay area as well. In the south bay at 2 00 this afternoon Adrian Wilcox high school will hold a protest. They are marching from Adrian Wilcox high school to central park. A stern warning from officials in Southern California to partygoers. Dont do it and stay at home. But private inhome gatherings are prohibited in san diego county. Punishable up to 90 days in jail and a fine. The District Attorney says large parties will attract attention and people will be cited. A neighbor in the east bay is getting ready to celebrate the fourth of july very creatively. Free throw months annual parade got canceled. This is a big deal. The city is planning a porch parade. They decorated porches and front yards. So far 130 people have entered and the judges will select the best and most creative porches. An intense encounter turns ugly for a peninsula teenager, and it was all caught on video. He says he feels targeted because he was black or is black. Get it away. Get your camera off me.
